Happiness and Success
I am a 75 year old retired Banker,Real Estate Broker,TruckDriver,School Courier and many
other xxxxx in that order. Fortunately I have a family that I love, good health and many other
blessing I am grateful for. Recently I have been thinking about what I want to be when I
grow up.
I have started to revisit some of the human potential gurus of my youth and realized that my
focus was always directed on how to make more money without thinking about if I really was
deeply happy, enjoyed, loved what I was doing at the time. It was a way to make a living and I
had bills to pay. Is that familiar? If you can say to yourself I would do this even if I didn’t get
paid you are probably on the right track.
I have also come to realize how blessed are those that know what they love and survive all
the negativism that they may encounter from friends and relatives. The younger the better,
buy don’t despair if your older it’s never to late. Yesterday only matters if it keeps you from
taking action today. And the good news is knowledge to overcome your fears exist if you seek it
out.
Joseph Campbell who is well known for the PBS series Joseph Campbell and The Power of
Myths with Bill Moyers is quoted as saying. ” The way to find out about happiness is to keep
your mind on those moments when you feel most happy, when you are really happy…not just
excited, not just thrilled , but deeply happy.” I would add most alive.
This requires a little bit of self-analysis. What is it that makes you (deeply) happy? stay with it,
no matter what people tell you. This is what is called follow your bliss. When you follow your
bliss…doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors,and where there
wouldn’t be doors for anyone else”
For me finding my bliss is a challenge. Many years of denying what made me deeply happy
have me out of touch with what it is. But I am searching and believe that it will enhance my
experience of being alive. I also believe if you keep asking yourself the question, what were the
happiest moments in my past, over and over again you will get an answer. Your subconscious
mind will provide you with one but analyze it carefully.
Now go find your bliss and follow it.
