LETTER
Wow, what a year so far. As many have said,
2020 will be a year recorded in history
books. Aside from all the issues and
challenges we've had to face, I think 2020
will also be the year of reclaiming human
connection. The year of rebalancing
humanity and technology.
Nellie Bowles's declaration in The New York
Times article, “Coronavirus Ended the
Screen-Time Debate. Screens Won." is proof
that it's all about how we face the reality
that truly matters.
However, I don't think Screens Won; I
believe it's kind of the other way around.
Once all this is over, we should all ask
ourselves the following question: Are we
going to remain on our screens all day long,
or are we going to run to hug our loved
ones, go for a coffee with friends, and fill the
bars, parks, and trails? This is the reason we
want to expand this year's report by
incorporating a wider variety of human
experts and making it more personal.

First launched in 2019, this is the second
edition of the world's first collaborative
paper with a focus on Digital Wellness.
The format is very easy to digest as it brings
personal perspectives from top leaders and
pioneers in the industry. We carefully
selected a diverse and enriching group of
people from tech engineers, mindfulness
teachers, and entrepreneurs, to therapists,
artists, writers, and retreat owners, and
asked them to share some tips and inspire
the community. Along with their
recommendations, this report features eye-
popping pieces of research and statistics to
raise awareness of a problem that has
become the third biggest epidemic after
sugar and cigarettes in the last fifty years.
This collaborative paper aims to have a
positive impact on people like us who went
through a wake-up call and are trying to
make a change in the ultra-connected
society we live in by joining forces with
thoughtful leaders in the community.

1) Incorporating artistic elements to the
theme of the report in order to highlight the

people with this report.

At Bagby, this is everything we have done so
far and are committed to in 2020:
1 - SUSTAINABILITY 
We have created products made from recycled
and vegan materials (Bagby Social), and are
currently upgrading some shipping elements to
remove plastic. Our goal is to become
a Certified B Corporation.
2 - AVAILABILITY IN RETAILERS THAT
PROMOTE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

and other local shops.
3 - REWARDING OUR COMMUNITY 
We have made incredible new connections and
have recently launched our collaborator
program. We offer a 18% commission for every
referral. It's FREE and easy to set up. You will

4 - OFFERING HELP DURING COVID-19
We ran a "Home Experiment" to raise
awareness for the challenges of parenting with
technology and offered a FREE Screen-Time
Tracker.

been helping the community.

OUR NEW
VISION
We envision a world where digital-free products become more common.
We are challenging ourselves to create the world’s first DIGITAL-FREE LABEL to
certify products like ours in the next 5-10 years. It might seem irrelevant right now,
but other labels like gluten-free, GMO-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, paraben-free,
plastic-free, or cruelty-free were irrelevant 10 years ago. Today, people filter their
searches and base their purchase decisions on them.
Things are changing, and we see the opportunity to leverage on what we like to
call “ANALOG NOSTALGIA - the nostalgia of a simpler time when human
connections were valued over social media likes.
 
Imagine what will happen 15-20 years from now with the irruption of holograms,
robots, etc. We firmly believe there will be a need to identify products and solutions
under the label Digital-Free.

overcome the omnipresence of

reducing our screen time but
increasing our HUMAN time.

intelligent society, human beings will

Compassion, Intuition, Creativity). The
sooner we tap in to this potential, and

in getting rid of technology, but instead,
learning how to work with it. Once you

Turn off your notifications. Studies show
that whenever we have notifications for
an app we are three times more likely to
use it. Turning off your notifications will
allow you to use your phone intentionally,
instead of having your time stolen by the
little red dot in the top right corner that
tell our brain there is something NEW and
UNPREDICTABLE. These are two things
that our brains crave and the app

I worked in tech for fifteen years and
saw lots of the benefits of tech but also
witnessed first hand the negative
impacts on my productivity and
wellbeing. As a result I started to work
with a team of experts in Psychology
and Neuroscience to look at the human
impact of Digital Transformation and
that was the seeds for UnPlug in 2015.
UnPlug has a range of behaviour change
programmes to empower staff to be
more mindful of their relationship with
tech. By taking back control, staff are
able to deliver higher quality work
during the day and fully rest and
recharge when at home.
Everyone uses tech differently
so it's important to measure and
review your tech usage before
looking at interventions. There
are great tools to do this
included in iOS (Screen Time)
and Android (Digital Wellbeing).

Education is fundamental for personal
and social transformation. I believe that a
balanced digital life is possible since we
are open-minded to learn how to deal
with technology. The first step is
reconnecting with ourselves by living in a
mindfulness state and practicing
meditation. The second step is learning
how to build a healthy and positive
relationship with technology. The third is
experiencing JOMO (Joy of Missing Out)
and reconnecting with others,
with nature and our senses in a
more fulfilling way.
Determine your daily "sacred
moments" off-line. I usually suggest
three options: the first hour of your
day, during the meals, and one to two
hours before going to sleep. Pick up
one of these and keep doing it for at
least three weeks. Observe how the
quality of your connections get
improved and other benefits. Once
you establish this new habit (the first
"sacred moment"), move forward and
try a new habit off-line.

As many have said, 2020 will be a year recorded in history books. Aside from all the issues and challenges we've had to face, I think 2020 will also be the year of reclaiming human connection. The year of rebalancing humanity and technology. Nellie Bowles's declaration in The New York Times article, “Coronavirus Ended the Screen-Time Debate. Screens Won." is proof that it's all about how we face the reality that truly matters. However, I don't think Screens Won; I believe it's kind of the other way around. Once all this is over, we should all ask ourselves the following question: Are we going to remain on our screens all day long, or are we going to run to hug our loved ones, go for a coffee with friends, and fill the bars, parks, and trails? This is the reason we want to expand this year's report by incorporating a wider variety of human experts and making it more personal. Thank you again for supporting our cause. The format is very easy to digest as it brings personal perspectives from top leaders and pioneers in the industry. We carefully selected a diverse and enriching group of people from tech engineers, mindfulness teachers, and entrepreneurs, to therapists, artists, writers, and retreat owners, and asked them to share some tips and inspire the community. Along with their recommendations, this report features eye- popping pieces of research and statistics to raise awareness of a problem that has become the third biggest epidemic after sugar and cigarettes in the last fifty years. We are challenging ourselves to create the world’s first DIGITAL-FREE LABEL to certify products like ours in the next 5-10 years. It might seem irrelevant right now, but other labels like gluten-free, GMO-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, paraben-free, plastic-free, or cruelty-free were irrelevant 10 years ago. Today, people filter their searches and base their purchase decisions on them.
