Government <br />Japan’s government is a “constitutional monarchy”<br />There is a Japanese emperor but his power is very limited.<br />Power is held mainly by the prime minister of Japan<br />The prime minister is elected by the emperor after being nominated by the house of representatives<br />The government consists of a house of representatives containing 480 seats. Much like the US.<br />

GEOGRAPHY<br />Japan consists of a total of 6,852 island running down the coast of Asia.<br />Its main islands are, Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikou, and Kyushu<br />About 73% of Japan is forested, mountainous, and uninhabitable for agricultural, industrial, or residential use<br /> Japan is located directly on the ring of fire. Resulting in frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions<br />

  6. 6. climate<br />The climate of Japan is usually stable throughout the year, but there can be key changes from north to south.<br />The average temperature for Japan during winter is 41 degrees f.<br />During summer the temp. is about 77 degrees<br />The highest temp. ever recorded in Japan was 105 degrees.<br />

As a result, widespread pollution<br />Several environment protection laws were put in place in 1970.<br />Main problems include urban air pollution, waste management, water eutrophication, nature conservation, and chemical management<br />

MILITARY<br />Japan has one of the largest military budget in the world<br />Japan contributed non-combatant troops to the Iraq war but withdrew<br />Japan military provided naval and air support during the last days of the Iraq war. This was Japan’s first military activity overseas since WW2<br />
