DRACULA
DRACULA
• Name: Count Dracula. Character based on
Vlad Dracul “The Impaler” (Vlad the dragon),
prince of Wallachia (Romania), who was a very
cruel person.
• Age: between 466-469 years old (based on the
book). If he was alive nowadays, he would be 590
years old.
• Nationality: Romania. He lives in a castle in
the Carpathian Mountains, on the border of
Transylvania, Bukovina and Moldavia.
DRACULA
• Book or Film? The character is based on a
book called Dracula by Irish author Bram
Stoker which was published in 1897.
• Creature: Vampire.
DRACULA: SUPERPOWERS
• Superpowers:
o Superhuman strength (like 20 strong men).
o He does not cast a shadow or have a reflection
in the mirror.
o He is inmune to conventional means of attack.
o He can defy gravity and possesses superhuman
agility, able to climb vertical surfaces upside
down like a reptile.
o He has powerful hypnotic, telepathic and
illusionary abilities (control minds).
o He can vanish and reappear elsewhere
(teleportation).
DRACULA: SUPERPOWERS
• Superpowers:
o He is very intelligent and wise.
o He cannot die by the passing of time alone. He’s
immortal.
o He can command animals such as rats, owls, bats, moths,
foxes and wolves, although it is limited.
o He can manipulate the weather, being able to direct
storms, fogs,…
o He can shapeshift, able to grow and become small, like a
large dog, a bat, a fog or mist.
o When the moonlight is shining, he can travel as elemental
dust within its rays.
DRACULA: SUPERPOWERS
• Superpowers:
o He can turn others into vampires by biting them on
their necks. The bite itself does not cause death, but they
use it to drain blood of the victim and to increase their
influence over them (hypnotically).
o He can become younger drinking fresh human blood.
They rejuvenate, but not regenerate, that is, if someone cut
his skin with a knife, he would still bear a scar.
o He is the king of vampires, so he can control other
vampires.
DRACULA:
WEAKNESSES
• Weaknesses and limitations of his powers:
o He is much less powerful in daylight. The sun is not fatal
to him, unless sunlight does not burn and destroy him
upon contact. Most of his abilities cease though.
o He has a bloodlust (desire drink blood and kill) which is
unable to control. He feels very furious.
o He is repulsed by garlic as well as sacred items and symbols
such as crucifixes, sacramental bread and holy water.
o He cannot escape from his coffin if a branch of wild rose
is placed on it.
o He can be killed if a sacred bullet is fired into his coffin
or if a stake is put through his heart.
DRACULA:
WEAKNESSES
• Weaknesses and limitations of his powers:
o During the day, he sleeps open-eyed but like he was dead. He cannot
awaken or move and also may be unaware of any presence of
individuals who may be trespassing.
o He needs transylvanian soil to be nearby to him in a foreign land in
order to rest successfully. Otherwise, he will not be able to recover his
strenght.
DRACULA: STORY
Jonathan Harker, a lawyer, goes to Transylvania to help Count Dracula
buy a state in England. While he is at the castle, strange things happen. Dracula
is educated and hospitable (helpful).
After only a few days, Harker realises he is a prisoner in the castle and
Dracula possesses supernatural powers and diabolical ambitions.
One evening, he is attacked by 3 beautiful vampires, but Dracula saves him
because Harker belongs to him. Fearing for his life, Harker tries to escape from
the castle by climbing down the walls.
DRACULA: STORY
Harker’s fiancée (girldfriend), Mina, corresponds with her friend Lucy.
Mina visits Lucy at the seaside town of Whitby. A Russian boat is found on the
shore with no people and its captain dead and a large dog. The only cargo is a
set of 50 boxes full of soil (earth), which come shipped from Dracula’s castle.
Not long after, Lucy becomes pale and ill and she bears 2 tiny red marks
at her throat. Nobody knows what is happening to her. Then, professor Van
Helsing, a doctor, comes to examine Lucy. He covers Lucy with garlic
(traditional charm against vampires) and decorates all the bedroom, but her
mother removes the plants from the room. Then, everybody tries to revive
Lucy performing four blood transfusions.
DRACULA: STORY
One night, a wolf breaks into the house attacking and killing Lucy. Later,
Van Helsing thinks Lucy is a vampire and, finally, they discover that it’s true. So
that, while she’s sleeping, a man drives a stake into her chest (heart), cut off
her head and stuff her mouth with garlic.
Then, Mina starts to change into a vampire. Some men pursue Count
Dracula across land and sea. They arrive the castle, kill the 3 female vampires
and seal the castle with sacred objects. Finally, before Dracula reaches the
castle, they destroy him using knives and turning him into dust.
DRACULA: CURIOSITIES
• Dracula’s preferred victims are women.
• Dracula is in love with Mina because she and her former girlfriend look
alike.
• Being an impaler means piercing the bodies of his prisoners, either dead or
alive, using a big pointed stick.
