2. Walker # 1
Background: Manager of unit. One of her goals is to model healthy behaviors for her staff.
They work a lot and she wants to emphasis that health is the most important thing. Wants
to create a community of individuals who see exercise as a value.
“I wanted them to see that I was taking
a break to do something healthy, so it
was ok for them to take a break too”
Walking club every Wednesday at 4pm – walk for an hour, try to go somewhere new
each time. Invite new people, the bigger the group the more peer pressure there is to
go – “people don’t want to miss the fun”
Key Motivators: To de-stress and to be social
“I get to catch up with Jenny”
3. Walker #2
Background: Owner of a small business. Works long hours. Wants to
exercise more often but finds it hard to stay motivated.
Sequence: Relaxing after a long day of work, husband says let’s go for a walk, some
convincing needed, makes the decision to go walking, gets a boost of energy once
she makes the decision to go “Ok, let’s go!”
Key motivator: To be social with her husband. Exercise/weight loss is also a
motivator, but the social aspect is the key driver
“I walk because my
husband prods me, and
then we walk and talk.”
