When Latika is introduced to Jamal and Salim, the audience is shown an image of her, standing
in the rain, all alone. The use of water in that scene seems to be a symbolic reawakening of sorts,
and in that reawakening, the viewer is shown the harshness and severeness of these children's
situation. There's no pity, or a simple discarding of their issues. Jamal, Latika, and Salim all have
to fight for their lives, for their freedom, and more importantly to achieve their one true destiny,
which in the end, varies vastly in the final act of the film. Throughout the story, the viewers are
shown an abundance of shots of bare feet. For instance, in the opening scene, where Jamal is
being tortured by the police, the viewer is shown a quick shot of Jamal's feet, as he dangles
helplessly from the ceiling, his arms tied above his head. Another shot involving characters feet
is when Salim is shown stealing shoes for the first time. The viewer is momentarily shown
Salim's feet as they slip into the pair of sneakers. One last usage of feet is when Salim, now much
older, begins to pray before he goes to commit his 'hit'. When praying in India, many of their
religions involve the removing of shoes, and while they pray, they are known to do so in bare feet. A

India The film Slumdog Millionaire narrates a story about the life of eighteen year–old Jamal Malik,
his brother Salim, and friend Latika and how life was growing up in the slum of India. The film
takes place in Mumbai, India where Jamal is on a TV show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and
is one question away from becoming the next millionaire. Unfortunately, the host of the popular
Indian show has a difficult time believing Jamal, an uneducated young boy from the slums, could
have made it this far. Throughout the film, we go back in time to Jamal's first appearance on
show; with every question Jamal is asked, we are taken back even further to Jamal's childhood
and the occurrences in his life that lead to him to knowing the answers to each of the challenging
questions on the famous game show. Fairly quickly in to the movie, there is a distinct difference
with Jamal and his brother Salim. Jamal can be characterized as a soft and careful child, while on

while watching, but when they are seen and analyzed, they can have the greatest impact. The
movie Slumdog Millionaire is filled with major social issues, ethics and morals. It has specific
goals and purposes for viewers to grasp and think about further. The film depicts a major social issue
– economic inequality and power; some of the most prominent examples are the divisions caused by

Slumdog Millionaire is a film that shows many issues surrounding social issues in the film,

living conditions that these families live in with their children and see how the living style is
there, children playing in the water that their moms clean water. This explains that families are
struggling to provide for their children, meaning that it's hard for the children to get a meal which

police forcing young innocent children wandering in the streets looking for a place to sleep and

They have around or over one million people living in an area smaller than Central Park in New
York City. This is the area which the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" was filmed and aimed to show
the lifestyles and things that people from Dharavi encounter every day. How a slum is defined is
when there are more than 2 people living in one room. The term social class is important in this

people who were watching the show probably wondered how he was smart enough to answer these

Finally, the year we all have been waiting for has arrived: senior year. Besides keeping up with the
school work, a part–time job and other miscellaneous tasks, most of us added a To–Do list to our
agenda, which includes applying for university, committing to university, going to formal and
graduating. I opened my Dumbo–like ears to the world of literature and completed these tasks with
the helping hand of texts by my side to guide me and shape me into the person I need to be for my
future. One of the most important lesson's I have learnt through literature is to hold tight onto hope.
That four–letter word with endless meaning. Hope allows one to approach their problems with a
mind set and a strategy–set suitable for success amidst inevitable twists and turns through life.
Throughout the film Slumdog Millionaire, the protagonist, Jamal went through a series of obstacles
with only one thing keeping him going – the love of his life, Latika. The girl in the beautiful yellow
dress held all the hope Jamal needed to continue day by day, step by step and question by question.
Jamal's hope, persistence and undying love for Latika can be summed up in one line – "I'd never
forget. Not for one moment. I knew I'd find you in the end. It's our destiny." In late 2013, the
highly anticipated Disney movie, Frozen, directed by Chris Buck, was released and is one of the
most influential texts during my schooling. Frozen is about two sisters; Anna and Elsa, who's
sisterly bond is torn apart when Anna is struck in the heart by Elsa. Within this movie, hope is

Slumdog Millionaire Excellent movies and school usually do not mix well. But, Slumdog

poor. It also showed what the poor will do to help others. An example of this would be when Jamal
got the hundred dollars from the American tourists and he gave it to his blind friend. Another
example of culture would be when the adults were washing their clothes in the river, early in the film
. These patterns are exclusive to that are of the world because they save money buy not buying
expensive washing machines. Some of the material culture examples from the film were the

Media plays a significant role in our society. It is all around us, from the music we listen to on the
radio, the shows we watch on the television, to the articles that we read from the internet. Its main
job is to entertain, inform and educate society about what is going on in the world. Without it, the
world would be a dull place and people wouldn't know what is going on in the society. Listening to
songs or watching movies can be both delightful and relaxing, but this entertainment could possibly
have a negative effect; For instance, it could shift your behavior. Whilemedia can be very useful, it

As a matter of fact, it can shape people's attitude in a positive way. Let's take Slumdog millionaire,
directed by Danny Boyle, as an example. This movie is about Jamal, an 18 year–old orphan from the
slums of Mumbai and a former street child, who is a contestant on Who Wants to Be Millionaire
and is one question away from the grand prize. But when the show breaks for the night, police
arrest him on suspicion of cheating because of the impossibility of a simple "Slumdog" with very
little education knowing all the answers. Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story
of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road.
Long story short, Jamal manage to answer the last question correctly and wins the grand prize.
This movie shows that people should not judge others from their origins. I used to think that
people from the slums were ignorant before watching this movie. It certainly change my
perspective and the way I view people from the slums. Another thing that I learned from this movie
is that if you have determination and perseverance to pursue your goals, you will eventually reach
them. Jamal works very hard to work his way up from the slum to winning the grand prize. Overall,
this movie inspires me to work harder and don't give up despite
