2. Mexico’s Education System
The Mexican education system is organized into four levels:
Preschool (K1–K3, Kinder garden)
Basic education (grades 1–9, Primary and Secondary)
Upper Secondary education (grades 10–12, High school)
Higher education (Bachelor’s degree etc.)
The government is only officially responsible for providing
basic education (Santibañez, Vernez & Razquin, 2005)
3. How are the people using technology to support learning or teaching
in your home country?
In Mexico is a complicated situation in the Education, because is
very different between the basic education and higher education.
Problems in the basic public education
Government uses few resources on school reform programs,
school equipment, teaching materials, technology in the Classroom,
teacher training programs and other improvement efforts. Because
they prefer inverting in national security and other things
(corruption, etc).
Many communities do not have local schools and students often
have to travel for hours to reach the nearest one. This people use a
distance learning and other technologies, but in general are bad
services, because some times, for example don’t have electrical
services and other factors.
4. How are the people using technology to support learning or teaching
in your home country?
5. How are the people using technology to support learning or teaching
in your home country?
Problems in mexican education in general
For a lot of people the technology and science is not necessary in
their lives. (ignorance and other factors).
Economic inequality (a lot of people are poor and don’t access
any service and companies that provide the technological services
are bad and their services are expensive.
Problems of insecurity and absenteeism for situations in the
country (war of the drugs).
6. How are the people using technology to support learning or teaching
in your home country?
Problems in Higher Education
A lot of students, few grants and few places for the best
universities (inequality of opportunities, for example,
difference between poor people and rich people).
Some universities are low level and their technologies are
bad.
7. How are the people using technology to support learning or teaching
in your home country?
Advantages in basic education
Is almost free of charge, non-religious, and by
law, the government assumes responsibility for
providing education all students.
8. How are the people using technology to support learning or teaching
in your home country?
Advantages in high and higher education
In Mexico there are internationals universities with high
level. These universities use all kinds of technologies and
best technologies in the world. The best universities in
Mexico are two. (one autonomus and other private). The
names are: Unam and Tecnólogico de Monterrey. These
universities provide: high school, bachelor’s degree, Master’s
degree, phd studies, and offer excellent research and develop
good technologies and pattents.
9.
10. How have you used technology when studying or teaching?
In my case, the tool most important in many areas of my life
and that I use is the Internet. I am using this tool for: learning
and researching new topics and developing topics that I
already know, chatting or interacting with systems and using
the emails and the most common for the maintaining contacts
with the people around the world, also I am using the Internet
to work with special software on the projects and
documentation, for example in my Master’s degree in
Information Technology (Virtual system), also to download a
different software for a variety of different purposes.
11. Do you think the current state of educational technology is good?
Should they use technology more/less/differently?
The current technology in the basic public education in
Mexico is bad and obsolte. Just few schools have high level
in technology.
In the case the basic private education have a good level, but
some schools have low level.
In both cases, We suggest getting better technology but
above all know how to use, if not, this does not work.
In the case the universities, some universities have a good
technology and others not. We suggest the same that basic
education.
12. How should the situation be developed further?
Is very important use the educational technology in general.
Using in correct form the technology to improve in all aspects of our
lives and like society, to obtain a better future and sandly in Mexico
some times don’t happen, because many people in Mexico are
ignornants and the technologies are obsolets.
Recomendations:
Have better governments
Have better technologies
Have better Distance Learning
Have better technology in the Classroom
Have teacher training programs
Have Quality Schools program
