What to do about the “Dreamers”
Dreamers are a word to describe illegal immigrants who have been taken to the U.S at a
very young age, as in too young to know what’s going on. They grow up as American, often not
knowing where they’re from or any of their culture and assuming they were born in the United
States. Unfortunately, the government wants to deport them.
For all the current Dreamers living in the United States, I think that they should be able
to stay. It wasn’t their fault that they were brought to America before they were old enough to
know what was going on. And even if they were, it’s almost certain that they grew up in an
American environment and are not plotting against the government. They grew up like any
other American kid, albeit with illegal immigrants as parents, so why should they be treated any
different? Even if they were raised in an environment closer to their culture, I don’t see any
reason why most of them would want to destroy the country they grew up in.
In the future, I think the deportation system should look at the visa records to see
whether or not everyone who got the visa was old enough to know what was going on. For
example, if the parents registered for visas when the child was very young, the child should be
given an exemption. I think that if the child was too young to fill out any sort of visa form when
they were taken to the US, it’s unlikely that they can function in a country that they know
2. nothing about. They should at least look at the age of everyone on the visa before making a
decision.
