from Sydney, NW, who has been recognized for
playwrights, scriptwriting and other writings since 1981.
Misto was originally a trained lawyer but started writing
for theater, film and television specially for 7-12 years.
๏ John Misto is an in-demand speaker and people
always keen to listen to his talks. He has been exclusively
comprehensive in his writings. Misto won an AFI Award
for his script for The Day of the Roses, and an Australian
Writersโ Guild Award. The mini-series also won a Silver
Logie. Misto also won 4AFI awards for his other scripts
include The Damnation of Harvey McHugh.

Dreams. Both the film and the John's television

John Misto has written popular plays which has won
him various awards. He has been loved by his fans for

Harp on the Willow starring Marina Prior had a sell-
out season at Sydney's Ensemble Theatre and won
the Rodney Seaborn Playwright's Award for Best New
Play. His novel The Devil's Companions was
published by Hodder Headline in 2005. His
play Sky was nominated for the Sydney Critics' Award
for Best New Play of the Year and also received a
commendation from the Human Rights Commission.
4. Mistoโs best-known work, The Shoe-Horn
Sonata, is one of the most frequently
performed plays in Australia. It is the story
of two old ladies who are forced to
recount their war-time experiences for a
television documentary. The play won the
New South Wales Premierโs Literary
Award and The Australia Remembers
National Play Competition, ahead of 150
entries. Misto donated his $20,000 prize
to a war memorial fund. The play has
been widely studied in schools in NSW
since 1999 and has been reprinted 14
times.
5. Mistoโs film and book Peter & Pompey were studied in primary schools
throughout Australia and won him a Penguin award for Best TV Script.
He was also awarded for his very popular telemovie, Nature
Causes.John Misto is also an established playwright. Misto's play The
Shoe-Horn Sonata It won both the NSW Premier's Literary Award and
the Australia Remembers National Play Competition - the biggest
playwriting prize ever offered in Australia. Misto donated this prize to
