This would suggest that this video could possibly be set in a venue that harbors dangerous people. This would follow the typical conventions of a rock genre, which is often associated with taking risks and getting into trouble. We are then shown a medium long shot of the band performing to an audience although we are unaware of who they are. This shows that this video is partially performance based which is also typical of the rock genre which based mainly on live performance. We then become aware of the fact that most of the audiences are women in a prison reinforced by a close up shot of t-shirt . As the band are all men, and the woman within the prison are all attractive it could suggest a sexual undercurrent which is typical of the rock genre cliché of ‘sex drugs and rock and roll.’ This idea is reinforced by a close-up shot of the lead singer’s bottom half . we are also shown a close-up shot of one of the female prisoner’s tattoo which is the emblem of the band showing that the band are trying to sell themselves as a group . At the very beginning of the video we are seen a small case passed throughout the crowd suggesting that there is a narrative within this video . After this we are shown a medium long shot a prison guard which re-enforces the idea of authority vs. rebellion against establishment which goes the with the image the band are trying to promote about themselves. Contrasting with this and reinforcing this idea we shown close-up shots of the band performing which gived emphasis to the fact that this a live performance , we are then shown the reaction of the women who are enjoying the music , suggesting that the music of Kasabian does not conform . With regards to mise en scene the use of costumes is quite symbolic . The band are dressed in clothes that would usually be associated with that of an indie/rock genre e.g scruffy jeans tribly ect. The female prisoners are all dressed in white uniforms which is not only symbolic of conformity but also purity . As the women within the prison are obviously not pure it could suggest that this video is a challenge to normal everyday conventions
