The Person
A mother at the age of 22. Wife at 23
second child at the age of 24.
In 1997 seven years later started working in a local restaurant as a
dishwasher. Later asked if I wanted to train as a breakfast line cook.
Then from there I became a line cook in multiple different facilities and
gained a lot of related experience. Including a private country club. I am
passionate about food.

The reason
Back in 2012 I was diagnosed with two bulging disc in the
lower back.
A bulging disk extends outside the space it should
normally occupy
A bulging disc in the lower back could lead to severe
pain.
Then came that time when the doctor said back surgery
Laminectomy.
Laminectomy is surgery to remove the lamina. This is part of
the bone that makes up a vertebra in the spine.
Also known as decompression surgery, laminectomy
enlarges your spinal canal to relieve pressure on the spinal
cord or nerves.
5. 5
The passion
Changing careers was a hard decision to make, cooking is my
passion.
I took to it quickly and enjoyed it. It made me feel
good about me and what I was doing.
The most rewarding was the assisted living facility
cooking for the elderly. I felt as though I was giving
back to the community.
It was hard to say good bye but it was time to
move on.
Applied for a line cook job at Sharis and received a raise 4
days after I started. On a Sunday too if you know anything
about Sharis and Sundays they are very busy.
6. 6
The student
Returning to school as an adult student at my age was my only
concern
When choosing what to major in I thought about management and
healthcare separately. But then thought I’d make it real challenging
and combine the two.
I am returning to school in pursuit of a bachelors degree in Healthcare
Management Services
Realizing I couldn’t keep doing the line cooking for much longer I choose to
return to school.
7. 7
The Professional
The profession I am seeking is Healthcare Management Services
I will obtain my Bachelors in Healthcare Management Services
It will provide me a better way of life.
8. 8
A better quality of life.
Will be more secure in life.
Can concentrate on living life instead of just
surviving.
I will be able to enjoy life and live like never
before.
Editor's Notes
Sometimes in our life we are forced to reevaluate and ask ourselves “ What do I do now?” We start to think, process the thought, and decide to make a change and set goals. When circumstances that brought me to this point in my life that I had to consider a change I had to process these five factors. The person with in me that just can’t quit or settle for less, the reason for my decision, the passion with in me, the student I am about to become, and the professional I am setting out to be.
I was a mother at the age of 22 and then a wife at age of 23. Had my second child at age of 24. I spent the first part of my children’s life at home insuring my son who was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 2 months was getting his needs met that day care could not provide
When I returned to the work after so many years I found that I had a hidden talent. Cooking in a restaurant seemed to agree with me and I loved it. I’ve had the opportunity to work in many different styles of cooking. The assisted living facility was rewarding in a way I could never have imagined, I fell in love with the residents and was saddened when I had to move on. I didn’t know but there were bigger plans in my future. I Started cooking at Sharis Restaurant and received a raise 4 days after I started my first day. 5 months later I was asked to be a manager and up to a year and a half of being asked to become a manager over and over I finally excepted the position. Although did I know my training became very important and I challenged myself to receive all the bonuses offered when finishing with high scores. I achieved my goal and received them all.
The only factor that concerned my about returning to school was my age but I couldn’t let that hold me back, my age has never held me back. My procrastination now that is a different story even though I have gotten better it doesn’t seem like it lately with all the things going on in my life right when I desided to return to school.
I have been recognized at times that I could manage and lead individuals. It took me some time to believe it, but I now know I have the ability and I will accomplish my goals.
Completing all these goals will put me in the position to be better and do better things in life. I will be in charge of my life and won’t have to depend on nobody. I really ain’t good at depending on any body. It took me a long time to get here but I will it you can count on that.
