1. Similar genre video analysis Paramore- Misery Business Misery business is a concept based video. The band start off performing in a room, which has an eye catching background around them, this could also be an advert for there upcoming album ‘RIOT’ . The narrative of the story revolves around a girl, who steals other people’s boyfriends, then the main member of the band decides to get her own back. The song and video for ‘misery business’ gave Paramore a huge boost into the music industry, and more people began to listen to there work. The video was shown on social networking sites, TV and played on the radio, which resulted in plenty of publicity for the band. Williams is mainly dressed in bright orange and black, which contrasts with the background around her and her hair, this shows she is unique and different and possibly a role model to younger ages. The scene is set for the story, as a typical high school scene, with cheerleaders and lockers in place. All sorts of different shots are used within the video, mainly close ups of Williams singing, and full length shots of the girl who is made out to be a stereotypical ‘bitch’. Hayley Williams sings into the microphone as though she is angry, this also links into the main theme of the song which is focused on revenge and anger. The girl is heavily made up, wearing a low cut dress, this could be putting a stereotypical view onto girls which they are trying to portray in the video, the moral seems to be as though girls like this get there come upance someday.
2. Brand New- "Sic Transit Gloria" Razor & Tie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbSZa1b3M_E The main starting shot of the video sets the scene and creates impact on the audience by using the theme of a ‘killer shot’. The camera pans and cuts a lot following the man through what seems to be an eary town. This begins to fit in with the genre of the song. Through out the video there are images of sheep posted on doors and walls which could hint to subliminal messages within the video. Close ups of the sheep suggest they may have something to do with the storyline of the video. The logo of sheep links to director Marc Webb, who is using the video to promote his work. The singer is then introduced through a medium close up and the name of the song is subtly placed behind his head. The dull lighting and colours suggest colour connotations throughout the video, creating a dark mood. Close ups of the main singer are used to show emotion. His body movements need to be noted by the viewer so they realise that everyone else in the video is copying his actions. The actions and movements get more bold and bigger as the song begins to kick in. Jump cuts are used to show the action of the singer and the movement of the people in the bar. The singer is dressed in a suit, as though he is an average man just coming out of work, his suit is casual and an off white colour which contrasts with his black hair. The video is set in derelict locations which also relate to the theme, genre and mood. The end of the video almost uses a shock tactic, when the shadowed figure suggests a killing, this intrigues the audience to want to watch more.
3. Panic! At the Disco- I write Sins Not Tragedies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN-kZ5PAdvU The first main start image of the video begins by intriguing the audience , before cutting to a wedding and a white feather quill. This sets the main scene for the video. The camera pans upwards revealing the table which still sets the scene of the video and gives the audience another small clue. The main singer is then established, although not much is given away as he is wearing a low black hat, this could suggest secrecy within the video. He doesn't make eye contact with the camera, which makes the audience want to know more, this looks effective and unique. The dress style of the band are very gothic , with elaborate stage makeup which suggests the wedding is almost fake. This works well as it links in with the theme of the video and the genre of the pop punk band. Everything in the video seems over the top and different which is a different skilled idea, almost like a circus. It gives the video a slightly creepy atmosphere. The main singer then makes contact with the camera, but whilst singing he over exaggerates the words and face movements which suggests everything is an act, a bit like a circus. There are a lot of relations to marriage throughout the video which relate to the lyrics, this suggests the video is narrative based. Fast editing is used such as a lot of jump to show what each character is doing and allowing the audience to see everything going on. The video is entertaining and captures the attention of the viewer. This is my favourite video as I find it different and unique to the others I have analysed.
