Writing for clients: process, audience, and purpose (we’ll look at samples). Explore the
US Bureau of Labor Statistics and Occupational Handout. Keeping a research dossier
with Evernote.
Thursday, 2/02
Developing focused research questions for the project. You’ll begin gathering data from
the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Occupational Handout using Evernote (bring
your laptops!)
Work due today:
 Watch slidedoc 1 and sign up for Evernote if you are using it for the dossier.
 Decide the career option that you will use for this project.
 Charge and bring your laptop to class.

Week 5
Tuesday, 2/07
Creating graphically represented data. Decide how to share drafts of the Career Guide
with your team on Thursday (print? laptop?).
Work due today:
 Complete the dossier.
 Watch slidedocs 2 and 3.
 Familiarize yourself with the three aspects of the UI brand you will need to know
and apply in your project deliverables (see links to UI Brand resources in
BbLearn).
Thursday, 2/09
Draft workshop, Career Guide. Note: Draft workshops are mandatory: students who are
absent or who come without a complete draft will lose 20 points.
Work due today:
 Complete Draft Due: Career Guide. Your draft should have the following
elements (refer to slidedoc 2 for more information and choose typography
consistent with the UI brand:
o Title Page.
o Table of Contents (use the automatic TOC feature)
o Introduction: follow the guidelines in slidedoc 2 to write the introduction.
o Body of the guide, broken up by headings: just write these headings, and
then update your TOC to be certain the automatic TOC is working
correctly.
o Works Cited or bibliography
o Charge and bring your laptop to class with rough draft.
Week 6
Tuesday, 2/14
Using Gestalt and the CRAP HATS principles for flyer design. Create mock-ups of flyers
(bring scrap paper and writing implements). Decide how to share drafts of the event
flyer with your team on Thursday (print? laptop?).
Work due today:
 Revise the Career Guide based on team members’ review.

 During today’s class, teams will review drafts of event flyers.
Work due today:
 Complete Draft Due: Event Flyer. Bring a draft to class based on how you
decided to work with your peer team (print? laptop?).
If needed for review, charge and bring your laptop to class.
Project 2 DUE: Sunday 2/19 before 11:59 PM
Submit project deliverables to drop box project 2 (below bolded due date on the course
menu).
