Phobias
Research, Reasonings & Recovery
The Definition Of
Phobia
A nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror that
which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat
into advance.
Fear vs. Phobia
A fear can be explained as a normal response to genuine danger.
A phobia is a “marked and persistent fear that is excessive or unreasonable,
cued by the presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation.”
Phobia
Classifications
“Specific phobias are grouped under four main types: animal (e.g. dogs, spiders),
natural environment (e.g. heights, water), blood-injection-injury, and situational (e.g.
airplanes, elevators).”
While fears can also stem from a reaction to an animal, natural
environments, social situation or blood-injection related injuries, it would be
because the animal in question could potentially be endangering your life, or
because the activity you are partaking in has potential to be hazardous or
harmful to your life, or because the social situation you are found in, is in
some way, posing a threat on your life. A person suffering from a phobia can
feel immense fear and an overwhelming sense of threat from something as
harmless as a Pit Bull puppy. Forty-seven year old Marvin Cruz was featured
on Animal Planet’s, Animal Phobias.
