Just over an hour north of Omaha is Macy,
Nebraska, home of the Omaha Nation. The
reservation is a place with a very distinct and
rich cultural heritage. Residents of the
reservation are also faced with
Unique educational challenges.
3. The Experience
The Omaha Nation Culture Walk will take
place in four sessions during the fall
semester
4. First Meeting
Meet at UNO for an overview of
statistics and information about the
Omaha Nation
5. Second Meeting
Travel
to Omaha Nation to work with
students in the Omaha Nation Public
Schools
6. Third Meeting
Meet to discuss culturally responsive
teaching strategies, especially as
they relate to the Omaha Nation
7. Fourth Meeting
Meet virtually on the wikispace to
reflect on learning and the impact of
information gained through the
Culture Walks.
8. The Benefits
Personal enrichment – You can increase your
understanding of your community.
Make connections– You can meet area teachers,
community members and administrators.
Job preparation- You will be asked about personal
experiences with diversity in every interview.
Prevent ‘Culture Shock’ - You will
be better prepared for what you
will experience when you begin
