Overview of organization. “Hi my name is Jamie Joslin and my internship has been as a development intern with Alive Arts Media, a nonprofit based out of NE Minneapolis. Alive’s mission is to create opportunities for young women to discover their voices and realize their full potential. They do this through a unique business model that capitalizes on the energy and vision of young women, 25 and under.
Alive produces Alive Magazine, which is published on a bi-monthly schedule and is completely edited and designed by Alive’s interns, all women 25 and under. When I was first applying for this internship, I was applying for an editorial position. As managing editor for UofM’s undergraduate literary magazine Ivory Tower , I had assumed I would naturally be using my English major to go into the publishing industry. During the interview with Alive’s executive director, Jen Dotson, she asked me about my finance experience I had accumulated as ME for IT. I had some experience with grant writing, individual donor appeals, and general fundraising activities. Jen had great insight to realize that editorial work would probably not completely utilize all of my interests and offered me an intner
