Concentration
Power
• It is focus of mind.
In simple words concentration is nothing
but being alert and without any
diversions in mind.
• - keeping one’s mind and thoughts on
one thing with focused attention on the
same thing/aspect.
What is Concentration?
INTRODUCTION
• It is one of the important
weapons behind any successful
person.
• One who has concentration,
can learn anything and
anything learnt with
concentration can be retained
in mind for a longer duration.
IMPORTANCE OF CONCENTRATION
• Most of the people feel that they
have poor memory, poor recollecting
skill etc.
• It is not a fact but an assumption!
• If someone has not at all heard the
matter, how can he remember/
recollect?
• Can anyone remember/recollect
anything which he/she hasn’t
heard/known?
• Definitely Not!
Concentration & Memory
• Poor listening is because of poor
attention, which’s due to lack of
concentration.
• As concentration is the back
bone of all other success skills
- like memory, observation and
listening skills,
- one should strengthen his/her
power of concentration.

• Time: Any time, when you are
relaxed.
• Procedure & Posture: Sit in a
relaxed and comfortable
posture,
• where there’s no disturbance
• comfortable lighting.
Concentration Improvement Techniques
Technique 1:
 Take a book and select any chapter.
 Keep the book in reverse order and
read.
 It will automatically focus the mind
to concentrate, consequently no
distractions/diversions.
Just read 2 or 3 paragraphs per day.
Concentration Improvement Techniques
Technique 2:
Deeply inhale and exhale 4 to 5 times.
Now start to count the numbers as guided
here.
1…, 1… 2…, 1… 2… 3…, (one, one two,
one two three, one two three four…, like
that.) Do this up to 100 and then vice
versa i.e. in descending order (hundred..
Ninety nine.. Ninety eight..) like that.
Concentration Improvement Techniques
Technique 3:
It’s scientifically proved that,
left hand is associated with right
brain.
- So before starting studies write 8 to
10 lines with your left hand, so you
can easily refresh/ activate the right
brain.
It results in effective understanding.

Technique 4: It helps to improve one’s
recollecting/ remembering ability.
Remember 5/6 persons’ name. While
doing so, close your eyes and
remember their faces with their
voices.
Technique 5: Recollect the taste of 2/3
dishes with its smell.
Don’t recollect the same items
everyday.
Concentration Improvement Techniques
Technique 6:
Select any object like a book, a pen,
a fruit or a ball. Observe it properly.
Then close your eyes & examine/
visualize the object as it is and as
you’ve observed.
Technique 7:
Sit in a calm place and recollect
morning to night, what are the things
you have done, people you have met,
places you have visited etc.
Concentration Improvement Techniques
One can improve power of
concentration with practice.
Interest is the foundation of
concentration.
