1. Week 3 Discussion 1 Blogs
As I reflect on the highs of this class it has definitely been my learning experience with blogs. I have
several blogs and enjoy using them, although I am not great at it. I see some that have great graphics
and detailed information. I have not learned how to make some things work. It is mostly by accident. I'll
have to admit time constraints have been a problem for me. Other things seem to always come up that
are "in my face" and get my immediate attention. That means I have to find the time somehow to
continue in my "quest" for technology, I would like to continue learning different ways to be creative
with my blog. My thoughts are still swirling around somewhat. I visualize being able to be professional
blogger like "The Pioneer Woman". I enjoy her blogs. My learning goals it to learn how to insert files and
pictures with the content into my blog and make it more entertaining. A blog can be a great learning
tool, but each learner needs instructions to keep from getting frustrated with the process.
Pros and Cons to using a blog.
Quick and easy way to create a blog
Takes time to keep a blog updated
Encourages class participation and discussion
It may be difficult to keep the students blogging about subjects relevant to the class.
Students may not blog if they are not required to because it takes time.
A place to collaborate on projects
Give students a feeling of ownership if they create it themselves
Blogs are not good for questions that require fast answers
Not all college courses have content that is appropriate for discussion
If students are required to blog but they do not have anything they want to say, they will only write the
minimum and it may not be relevant or useful
May be difficult for some students who have lower computer skills
It could be difficult to follow a discussion if replies are in individuals' blogs rather than immediately next
to each other
Easy for all students to read each others writing
Easy for instructor find out what the students think and feel about the class and the lesson content
Some professors and/or students may not want to learn new technology
