And while 25% of Western drugs are derived from rainforest ingredients, less than 1% of these tropical trees and plants have been tested by scientists.

For centuries, rainforest peoples have used the plant for things from insect repellant to lowering blood pressure to love potions. </li></ul><ul><li>Its traditional uses are backed by recent research. Colombians have used extracts from the plant to treat snakebites. </li></ul><ul><li>An oil extract from the plant also protects against UV rays. </li></ul><ul><li>Annatto is still used today in South America to treat heartburn. </li></ul>How is the ‘Lipstick tree’ useful for medicinal purposes? We will be covering a number of different reasons. </li></ul><ul><li>You must write up a structured paragraph for each reason you choose to answer the following question: </li></ul><ul><li>What makes the </li></ul><ul><li>Amazon unique? </li></ul><ul><li>(2 paragraphs minimum) </li></ul><ul><li>Write your paragraphs using a </li></ul><ul><li>different colour for the point, </li></ul><ul><li>evidence and explanation. </li></ul>
