Dog House Research Paper
Having no idea on what size I should make each dog house, I started researching websites. I visited
a website called 'How To Choose The Right Size Doghouse' on www.callingalldogs.com and looked
at www.pawnation.com though 'tips for building a dog house.' Both websites focused on the weight
and height for average sized dogs. Most of the time people use a dog's weight to decide the size of a
dog house. It is important to also consider the dog's measurements. Some dogs are tall structured
like Doberman Pitchers and Greyhounds, so height requirements are as important in consideration as
to weight. Taking into account that the dog houses are big enough for the dog to enter, turn around,
and lie down is an important aspect to look at. While also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Keeping the houses off the ground is another part to helping build a good dog house because a basic
foundation accomplishes a few important aspects to building the best dog house possible. Making
sure the house is weatherproof helps it last longer, but depending on where people live, the weather
proofing should differ because of the different climates. While in the summer vents in the peaks of
the roof will help with ventilation, as long as rain is incapable of seeping in. Making the dog house
easily portable will also be very helpful. With that further knowledge, I am starting with setting the
measurements of the Medium dog house being 30" length 35" width and 32" height and the small
house being at 28" length 30" width and 30" height. First, starting with working on one dog house
(the small one) with drawing the outline of the first dog house on the computer using a drawing
program at my dad's work. My dad will be my mentor throughout the project that will serve as my
knowledge board about how to use the building tools and the basics to building the dog

The Railroad Bride Analysis
Consider the painting The Railroad Bride, Argenteuil by Claude Monet. This artwork looks simple,
but uses geometry and one point linear perspective. Monet uses a sense of opposition is created by
the alternating rhythm of light to dark established by the bridge pillars and the color orange and blue
in both water and smoke from the train above. The light and dark areas given the picture
asymmetrical balance between the dark and light areas. Monet uses one point linear perspective to
create the bride. He uses proportions in the relationship between the parts of the object and the
whole object by using geometry. Monet uses grid like geometry. The wooden structure support
under the bridge is the same overall structure of grid and diagonals. Other lines are the apparent in
the two diagonals as well as opposing directional lines of the train and the boat. The smoke shows
direction of the wind and that the boat is moving that way as well. The visual weight/balance of the
sail boat is smaller than the bridge. I believe the focal point is the new bridge for the train and new
travels was is focal point in the picture. The asymmetrical balance of the composition 8–1: Explain
way the following mediums evolved in time. The evolving in paper went through a lot of phases.
Before the 15th hundredths paper was expensive. Paper was not made in the Western world until the
13th century in Italy. Before then it was made out of fiber from scraps of cloth. Another way a form
of paper was made is from papyrus and parchment which was invention of the ancient Egyptians
sometime around 4000 BCE and was made by pounding and pasting together strips of the papyrus
plant. Parchment was popular by the Romans after the second century BCE, but was used as paper
many years before that. Paper arrived in the West through trade and which had learned the process
from China originally. Papermaking was introduced into the Arabic world sometime in the 18th
century and had a thriving book trade. It was not till a gentlemen from Germany that invented the
printing press that books became wide spread. Due to the large amount of cloth rags need, paper
remained an expensive till the middle of the 19th century when wood pulp was discovered. This in

1. Briefly describe the event as a whole. (Was there a common theme or message? Are the works
organized by chronology, theme or medium? What kinds of media were represented? How was the
gallery laid out?)
The common theme was something that was rare or special in nature. The works were organized by
the artist who painted it. All the works that one painter painted were put by each other, and so the
works were organized by the artist name except for the stand alone walls. That was were award

The work is a picture of a lake at sunset that is covered with water lilies. The medium was pastel.
The composition of the work draws your eyes to where the sun meets the trees. That is where there
is the widest array of colors. The colors of the work create a cool feeling near the surface of the
water, but the sky creates a warm feeling. So there is a contrast of temperatures created by the work.
The second work is call The Old Shed. The piece of work is an old abandon shed in the woods that
is being reclaimed by nature. The medium of the work is pastel. The composition has a linear

Different Types Of Art Is Used Within The Pattern Of The Wood
Intarsia is the woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes and different species of wood
that are fitted together to create a 3–dimensional, mosaic–like picture. This type of art is created
through the selection of different types of wood, using their natural grain pattern and color to create
variations in the pattern. The different species and colors of the wood contrasts lights and values.
Similarly, grain gives the art amazing texture and makes it very realistic. Wanting to make an
intarsia project, of an object or animal, you make a pattern of outlines and places you want to shape
to look realistic. After selecting the specific woods to be used within the pattern, each piece of wood
is then individually cut, shaped, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mediterranean world in the Middle Ages was covered in vast woodlands that composed a
mixture of hard and softwood trees. The forests of Italy were abundant and diverse. Wood was a
main source of fuel for most of Europe for generating heat during the harsh winters. This heat was
also important for cooking, firing bricks, ceramics and glass. It was also used in casting and forging
a number of different metals. The building and mining industries relied mainly on the local forests
for beams for bridges, cranes, rafters, ceilings, and doors. A large amount of tree species could not
be used for lumber or heat. These species were used in luxury woodworking. Some examples were
sculpture, furniture, and intarsia decorations.
The word intarsia comes from the Italian word tarsia and intarsiare which means to inlay. It is
defined as "a mosaic usually of small pieces of wood which are inserted and glued into hollows of a
wooden support that was popular in the 15th century Italy for decoration featuring especially scrolls,
arabesques, architectural scenes, and flowers (Wilmering)." The palette of different of intarsia artist
were gathered from timber merchants or from the customer. These artists could use up to 25
different species of wood for one intarsia decoration. The reason for the different species is the

Essay Publishing Industry: Irish Artists and Book...
Between 1830 and 1930 there was a huge expansion in the publishing industry. Through a series of
industrial leaps, the publishing industry became an ideal medium for both innovation and
expression. The combination of the development of a train network as well as the mass production
of paper products allowed for greater distribution of published products. Not only that, but the
invention and use of the printing press greatly influenced the accessibility of the publishing industry.
As a result, the markets for published products expanded and diversified. During this explosion,
publishers began to recognize the marketability of illustrated books. Illustrations extended the

Consequently, Clarke utilized wood engraving and Yeats eventually mastered the mechanical
process of photoengraving. Harry Clarke was brought up under the influence of his father Joshua
Clarke, a craftsman who worked with stained glass. Following in his father's footsteps Clarke began
schooling to sharpen his artistic talents while also working as an apprentice for his father's stained
glass business. During this time he turned to drawing and illustration to generate an income. At first
it did not seem that he was going to find success as an illustrator. He compiled a portfolio of some of
his drawings to send to London's best children's book publishers. Just as he was ready to give up on
a career in drawing, George Harrap signed Clarke to illustrate Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales. It was
Harrap's initial support of Clarke that sparked his eventual international acclaim. Clarke's drawings
were famous for their intricacies. His sensitively drawn lines and delicate colors helped to give his
work an original flare. After the publishing of Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales Clarke received
increasing amounts of attention from his critics and his admirers. The drawings revealed his
untamed imagination, and the combination of the hand–graving mechanical technique he used,
paired with his fresh interpretation of the text tugged on the emotions of his readers. Some argue

Approximate size: 17 in.
This piece, Female Figure– Lupingwa Iua Luimpe, is unique since it's showing femininity in a
strong, powerful way, when it typically portrayed as soft and delicate. The visual aspects of this
piece help to illustrate the individuality it has.
The piece is made with wood, incrustation, and kaolin. After viewing all the African pieces in the
Eskenazi Museum of Art, it seemed that majority of the pieces were made with wood. Although
many were wood, not all wood pieces had incrustation, a hard outer coating. Kaolin is also used,
which I assume was used on top of the outer coating, mostly at the top of the sculpture. Kaolin is a
white, clay powder, which I assumed gave this sculpture the faint white tint mostly at the head and
neck. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again I assume kaolin, used in the medium, is what gave the piece a white layer at the top.
The size of this piece is quite small. It is only 17 inches tall, around a foot and a half. Although this
piece is small, it is powerful. I do not know the weight of this piece, but would maybe compare the

Description Of The Quad City Arts Center Gallery
I decided to go to the Quad City Arts Center Gallery. This gallery is located at 1715 2nd AVE. Rock
Island, IL. When I first pulled up to this gallery I realized that it was very modern. The building had
two different establishments on either side in a plaza setting. My first impression of this art exhibit
is that it is very clean and roomy. Right when I walked into the building, the lady that was working
there was very welcoming. This gallery changes its exhibition every couple of months. The current
exhibition is called, "Out and About," and has been there since August, and will be there until the
end of October. This exhibition focuses on the outdoors. The open spaces throughout the gallery

The date of completion was not available, but no matter the date it will always be a piece that
transcends time. This artist's choice mediums were a blank canvas and oil paint. This painting shows
the scene of standing on the edge of a wood, and staring off into the distance at the field and
mountains ahead. This painting is in one–point perspective. I can tell that it is one–point perspective
because as I stood there, looking at this painting, I felt as though I was there in that scene. I felt as
though there were more trees behind me since a tree stood in the top left corner of my vision. The
field in the middle of the artwork, that covers a majority of the painting, is full of flowers, plants,
and seems to go on forever. I can tell that the mountains are far in the distance because of the use of
atmospheric perspective that gives the feeling of depth. The colors of the mountains, and how they
seem like they are slowly fading, gives the feeling that there is depth, and that the mountains are
getting farther and farther away. I would say that this artist style is realistic. The reason is that at first
glance everyone would know what the painting is of. As I looked to the left of this painting I saw a
painting by Karen Bloome who painted an abstract version of a wood, full of trees. The major visual

Renee Yohe
The scene begins with Kat Dennings character 'Renee Yohe' laying on the ground after taking drugs.
A high shot has been used to capture this moment as it usually represents vulnerability, therefore
causing the audience to sympathise with Renee, and the position that she is in because she's
powerless. This angle also enables us to view the mise–en–scene, which is extremely dreary as the
colour scheme used consists of grey and black. These colours have been used as they have
connotations of being seriously dull and depressing, thus reflecting the characters emotions and
causing the audience have a further understanding of Renee and what sort of personality she has.
Still in the same shot we hear the diegetic sound of a butterfly flapping its wings, it flies past Yohe
who glances at it emotionlessly. Although this is a very small action, the butterfly holds great
symbolism as its reminiscent of her childhood, because at the start of the film we are shown how
Renee liked to draw bright coloured butterflies, the directors and producers of the movie ... Show

A medium wide shot is used to film this section so that we are still able to see the mise–en–scene but
also little Renee. This scene shows her still running in the direction that the car is coming from, she

dragging her innocent little frame along with it. The screen immediately switches to black and if you
listen closely you can hear Yohe scream out 'no' but it's very faded out which gives off the feeling
that is came from very far away. The fact that this shot only lasted for2 seconds shows how quickly
Yohe lost her innocence, so fast that she hardly even noticed it, the audience's mind is left to wonder,
did she experience a traumatic event? Did someone in her family die? We are literally shown that a
part of herself died, but for what reason we don't

Response To Hericlitus
To Hericlitus, a fire is not just a way to keep yourself warm or to cook food. In his writings, the fire
represents the exchange of all things in the world. A fire turns air into smoke, wood into ash, and
cold air into warm air. It is a medium of exchange for all of these things. In fragment 29, he states
that the world–order is fire. What he means by this is that the world is all a medium of exchange and
that being is a constant state of changing from one thing to another. If we look at this from the
perspective of him trying to figure out the nature of all things, he is saying that to exist, you must be
changing. The image of the river is another form of constant change for Hericlitus. In fragment 39,
he is saying that the river's identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The older I get the more seriously I think of death. Not in a positive or negative way but just the fact
that it is the only thing we all have in common is amazing to me. You can be a billionaire or
homeless and you still will both end up in the same place, the ground. It has also been very freeing
to me that no matter what I do, it doesn't really matter. As someone who has always struggled with
anxiety, I used to feel pressured about whether or not I was doing the right or wrong thing. However,
the realization that I only have so many years on this planet has cleared that up. I don't want to
spend any of my short time here worrying about something insignificant. I also really relate to
Hericlitus's philosophy that our identities are the constant state of change we experience. I feel that,
as a college student who has never been on her own before, I relate to this. My identity has changed
so much over the past few years and moving out has solidified this. Some of Hericlitus's writings
have made me feel better about losing my identity as I grow older and start changing more and
more. What he is saying is that what is happening to me is the very nature of being and that is really
comforting. If I didn;t change the way I did, I wouldn't have my

Modernism vs Postmodernism Essay
'It quickly emerged that the proper and unique area of competence of each art coincided with all that
was unique to the nature of its medium. The task of self–criticism became to eliminate from the
effects of each art any and every effect that might conceivably be borrowed from or by the medium
of any other art. Thereby each art would be rendered 'pure', and in its 'purify' find the guarantee of
its standards of quality as well as of its independence. 'Purity' meant self–definition, and the
enterprise of self–criticism in the arts became one of self–definition, with a vengeance.'

This implies that painting, rather than 'using art to conceal art' (ibid) by creating illusionistic space
and depth, should rather use art 'to call attention to art' (ibid), that is, to emphasise the unique
characteristics of the medium; 'the flat surface, the shape of the support, the properties of pigment'
(ibid). Greenberg states that such a process would render art 'pure', that is, autonomous, free of any
extraneous elements deriving from other arts, such as theatricality or narrative. The impact of a
painting should thus derive from those technical aspects characteristic of painting, such as colour,
form and composition. An example of the sort of painting Greenberg was advocating at the time
may clarify this. Morris Louis's painting Alpha–Phi (pl.D10) is exactly contemporary with the
publication of 'Modernist Painting'. It consists of bold, ragged, diagonal streaks of pure colour
against an off–white ground; Louis's use of acrylic paints, which soak into the canvas, means that
the colours appear integrated with the ground and hence do not disrupt the flatness of the picture
plane. Its effect depends upon the arrangement of colours and the large scale of the painting which
makes it occupy 'so much of one's visual field that it loses its character as a discrete tactile object
and thereby become that much more purely a picture, a strictly visual entity' (Greenberg, 'Louis and
Noland', p.28). It is apparently devoid of references to

has been condemned biblically and socially since the dawn of man. In Rashomon, a Japanese period

different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis
by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Fungus growth will be

Martin Puryear: A Brief Biography Of Booker T. Washington
Martin Puryear was born in Washington DC, in 1941. He is known for his devotion to traditional
craft, and working in wood and bronze. His Ladder for Booker T. Washington is made of wood ash
and maple. It is 432 X 33 ¾ at the top X 3 inches. Undoubtedly, the length was so overwhelming
that it gave me a sensation of vertigo. I could not tell if I was looking at something that was
distorted or whether it was in fact truly receding into space through total length. It is located in the
Modern Arts Museum of Fort Worth. Nonetheless, Puryear's sculptured ladder is related to African
American history, and it publicizes a humble focus on human touch and the craft of woodwork.

Americans at the turn of the century. Although, he encouraged self–advancement through self–

Film Analysis Of Vincent Gallo's 'Buffalo 66'
"All my life I've been a lonely boy." Vincent Gallo's Buffalo 66 is a peculiar, surreal film to analyze.
As a semi–autobiographical work, Buffalo 66 greatly exaggerates the events in the film and makes
the viewers suspend disbelief on more than one occasion. Yet despite this, the main focus of this
film is a broken Billy Brown's emotionally raw journey seeking revenge but instead finding
unconditional love through Layla in the end, and the formalist film techniques used here enhance
this. Through the deliberate use of photography, staging, and movement, Buffalo 66 works as a
formalistic classicism film, a predominantly classicism film with strong elements of formalism, on
the style continuum.
Gallo's use of cinematography, even though his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The camerawork emphasizes the sense of detachment between the characters, and Billy's inability
with connecting with others. In addition, the film has a contrasty, bleak look to it, like a faded
photograph. Gallo shot the movie on reversal film stock to capture that contrast and grain, in attempt
to reproduce the same look of football games from the late 1960's and early 1970's.
Buffalo 66's staging conveys many themes. One memorable use of staging is the dinner table scene
with Billy, Layla, and Billy's mother and father. To exaggerate the emotional emptiness of the scene,
the scene is framed in a medium long shot; however, the viewers see only three sides of the dinner
table at any given moment, like a stage. The characters in the scene range from a personal to social
distance. A most prominent detail in this scene, aside from the empty space, is the Buffalo
memorabilia present in both the background and foreground. All conversations are either three way
or two way, with one person constantly disappearing. The viewer has no way to identify with any
particular character; thus, the viewers feel alienated from the dysfunctional family much like how
Billy feels with his parents. As mentioned previously in the car scene, Billy is a character who has
difficulty connecting with others. Towards the end of the second act of the film, there is a scene
when Billy and Layla lie on a motel bed, attempting to be more intimate with

Puppy Jeff Koon Analysis
The material artists use for their artwork can influence the overall message of the piece. Jeff Koon
works with a few different types of mediums which influence the image of the work. His piece
Puppy, is a large sculpture of a dog in front of a building. The skeleton of this piece is made of
stainless steel and is filled worth soil. The entire sculpture is covered with live flowering plants. I
really liked this piece because the artist is using a living medium to create his work. This gives the
dog a sense of being alive. In addition to this the medium used in this piece is very unexpected.
Most sculptures are made of clay, metal, wood, etc. yet Koon used flowers which is out of the

To Corbel or Not to Corbel: That is the Question! Whether 'tis nobler to have a sleek modern look
Or embrace classic lines and the additonal support of pretty brackets The bottom line is corbels are
dramatic, but are they overly so like Shakespeare? Or are they addtional support to display your

mantel, arch or any overhang to carry addtional weight. But they also can be ornate, richly carved

Nevelson Sculptors Essay
Abstract expressionist sculptors, including Nevelson, aimed to built sculpture that is the particular
piece of art by emphasizing the material and color. The medium used by many man sculptors during
the Second World War was metal. Metal serverved as the principal material to many artists as a
result of two socio–political happenings, first of all because scraps of this industrial material was
easy to find and second of all because these men learned how to weld in wartime factories. Contrary
to these male artists who weld metal scrap into sculpture, Nevelson built sculpture out of wood. She
rejected to make use of her male companion's choice of medium because "she felt that the noise and
other aspects of the mechanical technique insulted her sensibilities" besides the fact that she did not
feel an ancestral connection to this material (Lisle, 129). Wood for Nevelson was more than just a
cheap material that was found laying around almost everywhere around the city in forms of broken
furniture, milk crates and toys. It represents the private realm of the society, the indoors of a home.
Wood reminded her of her ancestors source of living, it represented "the ... Show more content on

built grater sculpture than man did. She was vocal about the difference in artworks made by man
and woman in relation to the different ways of thinking and always emphasized the feminine quality
of her thinking. Another major difference, that Nevelson observed between male and female artists,
is exemplified in the labor behind the artwork. She

Doré’s Engravings of Punishment of the Avaricious and the...
The artist Gustave Doré engraved the entire Divine Comedy in wood. One of these 136 engravings
is Punishment of the Avaricious and the Prodigal. This piece is an accurate illustration of The
Inferno's Circle Four because it closely follows Dante's description in the text, it is creative, and it is
well illustrated.
Doré's depiction of Circle Four is accurate because it closely follows Dante's description in the text.
Dante and Virgil enter Circle Four. Dante notices that "Here the sinners were more numerous than
elsewhere, and they, with great shouts, from opposite sides were shoving burdens forward with their
chests" (Dante 7.25–27). In Doré's illustration, the sinners push heavy weights around, and there
appears to be a high consistency of people. From what the viewer can see of the sinners' faces, they
look like they are in pain and struggle. It is important that none of the sinners' entire faces are
exposed, as the text mentions that part of the punishment in Circle Four is that the sinners are
rendered indistinguishable. Dante realizes that he cannot tell who any of the sinners are, and he asks
Virgil why this is. Virgil responds: "The undiscerning life that made them foul now makes them hard
to recognize" (Dante 7.53–54). Doré's illustration precisely reproduces Dante's imagined Circle Four
as seen through his following of the text.
Doré's illustration of Circle Four is accurate because it is creative. In the illustration, the sinners

Pieter Bruegel The Harvesters Essay
The Harvesters "The Harvesters" is a landscape painting, painted by Pieter Bruegal the Elder, in the
Netherlands in 1565. The art is of wheat harvesters who are working in the field, and apparently
taking a break in the shade of a tree. The people in the painting are small in the painting, though
there are many of them, which led me to determine the peasants are the focus. Bruegel painted the
peasants eating under the pear tree while the others are harvesting wheat. This phenomenon relates
to the culture and ideas of the people in that era. The Metropolitan Museum of Art calls "The
Harvesters" a "watershed in the history of Western art" and the "first modern landscape". The
workers carrying sheaves of wheat through the clearing, the people bathing in the pond, the children
playing and the ships far away convey a sense of distance. Bruegel used the medium of oil to be
used on wood when painting "The Harvesters". He painted on the paint lightly, and delicately so the
brush strokes were almost untraceable. Single strands of hay are detectable in the patch, as well as
extravagant detail in the far background. Throughout the entire painting, the wood does not show
through, signifying completely opaque colors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"The Harvesters" is essentially, I think, a visual contemplation on the near and far. The near focus is
the peasants themselves. Bruegal shows us factual people: the man slouched with overtiredness, or
drunkenness; the famished eaters; the men finishing their work before their lunch break. Yet,
Bruegal exaggerates them somewhat. He sees a woman with straw–like hair, and another women
hiking through the fields moving grain heaps. Bruegal has compassion for the unforgiving life of the
peasants. He paints the faces of the peasants as people who are almost

The history of drawing in the Italian Renaissance developed throughout the years to be considered
an art in its own right. This new movement was originated and centered in Italy. Throughout the

How Intarsia Is The Woodworking Technique That Uses Varied...
Introduction
Intarsia is the woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes and different species of wood
that are fitted together to create a 3–dimensional, mosaic–like picture. Intarsia is created through the
selection of different types of wood, using their natural grain pattern and color to create variations in
the pattern. The different species and colors of the wood contrasting lights and values. Similarly,
grain gives the art amazing texture and makes it very realistic. After selecting the specific woods to
be used within the pattern, each piece of wood is then individually cut, shaped, and sanded.

History
It is
defined as "a mosaic usually of small pieces of wood which are inserted and glued into hollows of a
wooden support that was popular in the 15th century Italy for decoration featuring especially scrolls,
arabesques, architectural scenes, and flowers (Gibbo)." The palette of different of intarsia artist were

How Wood Affect The Instrument's Sound
The type of wood used in a drum will change the instrument's sound. Softer woods create smoother
tones than harder woods. Depending on the type of sound desired, the manufacturer will pick a
particular wood. Many of the softer, more pliable woods, such as spruce, require special care to
avoid breakage during use. Wood acts as a conduit to transfer vibrations from the drum head to the
acoustic chamber inside the drum. Selection When choosing wood for a drum, the maker must first
determine which type of wood will work best for his purposes. Some of the factors that go into this
choice include: the availability of the wood, its appearance and its ability to be molded and shaped.
Wood that breaks easily is not a good choice because drums have to be curved and molded to fit a
round shape. Woods that have low levels of moisture will crack easily, ... Show more content on

Birch Pape Paper
The term ground refers to a prepared surface for painting. As a general guideline, any surface that is
absorbent, rigid and heat resistant will work for encaustic art. Suitable grounds include wood,
untempered masonite, stretched canvas or linen, plywood, drywall or plaster, unglazed ceramics,
heavy watercolour or printmaking paper. Some grounds may need to be applied to a substrate for
support. No Ground You can paint directly on raw wood. Select a nice grade of birch plywood and
paint directly on it. Birch is absorbent, smooth and wonderful to paint on. Some artists prefer to
begin with a layer of either clear or white encaustic paint which will show subsequent colours to full
advantage. The drawback to this method is that it requires a higher degree of skill in controlling the

Dog House Research Paper

  • 1. Dog House Research Paper Having no idea on what size I should make each dog house, I started researching websites. I visited a website called 'How To Choose The Right Size Doghouse' on www.callingalldogs.com and looked at www.pawnation.com though 'tips for building a dog house.' Both websites focused on the weight and height for average sized dogs. Most of the time people use a dog's weight to decide the size of a dog house. It is important to also consider the dog's measurements. Some dogs are tall structured like Doberman Pitchers and Greyhounds, so height requirements are as important in consideration as to weight. Taking into account that the dog houses are big enough for the dog to enter, turn around, and lie down is an important aspect to look at. While also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keeping the houses off the ground is another part to helping build a good dog house because a basic foundation accomplishes a few important aspects to building the best dog house possible. Making sure the house is weatherproof helps it last longer, but depending on where people live, the weather proofing should differ because of the different climates. While in the summer vents in the peaks of the roof will help with ventilation, as long as rain is incapable of seeping in. Making the dog house easily portable will also be very helpful. With that further knowledge, I am starting with setting the measurements of the Medium dog house being 30" length 35" width and 32" height and the small house being at 28" length 30" width and 30" height. First, starting with working on one dog house (the small one) with drawing the outline of the first dog house on the computer using a drawing program at my dad's work. My dad will be my mentor throughout the project that will serve as my knowledge board about how to use the building tools and the basics to building the dog ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Railroad Bride Analysis Consider the painting The Railroad Bride, Argenteuil by Claude Monet. This artwork looks simple, but uses geometry and one point linear perspective. Monet uses a sense of opposition is created by the alternating rhythm of light to dark established by the bridge pillars and the color orange and blue in both water and smoke from the train above. The light and dark areas given the picture asymmetrical balance between the dark and light areas. Monet uses one point linear perspective to create the bride. He uses proportions in the relationship between the parts of the object and the whole object by using geometry. Monet uses grid like geometry. The wooden structure support under the bridge is the same overall structure of grid and diagonals. Other lines are the apparent in the two diagonals as well as opposing directional lines of the train and the boat. The smoke shows direction of the wind and that the boat is moving that way as well. The visual weight/balance of the sail boat is smaller than the bridge. I believe the focal point is the new bridge for the train and new travels was is focal point in the picture. The asymmetrical balance of the composition 8–1: Explain way the following mediums evolved in time. The evolving in paper went through a lot of phases. Before the 15th hundredths paper was expensive. Paper was not made in the Western world until the 13th century in Italy. Before then it was made out of fiber from scraps of cloth. Another way a form of paper was made is from papyrus and parchment which was invention of the ancient Egyptians sometime around 4000 BCE and was made by pounding and pasting together strips of the papyrus plant. Parchment was popular by the Romans after the second century BCE, but was used as paper many years before that. Paper arrived in the West through trade and which had learned the process from China originally. Papermaking was introduced into the Arabic world sometime in the 18th century and had a thriving book trade. It was not till a gentlemen from Germany that invented the printing press that books became wide spread. Due to the large amount of cloth rags need, paper remained an expensive till the middle of the 19th century when wood pulp was discovered. This in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different Types Of Art Is Used Within The Pattern Of The Wood Intarsia is the woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes and different species of wood that are fitted together to create a 3–dimensional, mosaic–like picture. The Mediterranean world in the Middle Ages was covered in vast woodlands that composed a mixture of hard and softwood trees. The forests of Italy were abundant and diverse. Wood was a main source of fuel for most of Europe for generating heat during the harsh winters. This heat was also important for cooking, firing bricks, ceramics and glass. It was also used in casting and forging a number of different metals. The building and mining industries relied mainly on the local forests for beams for bridges, cranes, rafters, ceilings, and doors. A large amount of tree species could not be used for lumber or heat. These species were used in luxury woodworking. Some examples were sculpture, furniture, and intarsia decorations. The word intarsia comes from the Italian word tarsia and intarsiare which means to inlay. • 11. Essay Publishing Industry: Irish Artists and Book... Between 1830 and 1930 there was a huge expansion in the publishing industry. Through a series of industrial leaps, the publishing industry became an ideal medium for both innovation and expression. The combination of the development of a train network as well as the mass production of paper products allowed for greater distribution of published products. Not only that, but the invention and use of the printing press greatly influenced the accessibility of the publishing industry. As a result, the markets for published products expanded and diversified. During this explosion, publishers began to recognize the marketability of illustrated books. Consequently, Clarke utilized wood engraving and Yeats eventually mastered the mechanical process of photoengraving. Harry Clarke was brought up under the influence of his father Joshua Clarke, a craftsman who worked with stained glass. Following in his father's footsteps Clarke began schooling to sharpen his artistic talents while also working as an apprentice for his father's stained glass business. During this time he turned to drawing and illustration to generate an income. At first it did not seem that he was going to find success as an illustrator. He compiled a portfolio of some of his drawings to send to London's best children's book publishers. Just as he was ready to give up on a career in drawing, George Harrap signed Clarke to illustrate Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales. It was Harrap's initial support of Clarke that sparked his eventual international acclaim. Clarke's drawings were famous for their intricacies. His sensitively drawn lines and delicate colors helped to give his work an original flare. After the publishing of Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales Clarke received increasing amounts of attention from his critics and his admirers. The drawings revealed his untamed imagination, and the combination of the hand–graving mechanical technique he used, paired with his fresh interpretation of the text tugged on the emotions of his readers. This piece, Female Figure– Lupingwa Iua Luimpe, is unique since it's showing femininity in a strong, powerful way, when it typically portrayed as soft and delicate. The visual aspects of this piece help to illustrate the individuality it has. The piece is made with wood, incrustation, and kaolin. After viewing all the African pieces in the Eskenazi Museum of Art, it seemed that majority of the pieces were made with wood. Although many were wood, not all wood pieces had incrustation, a hard outer coating. Kaolin is also used, which I assume was used on top of the outer coating, mostly at the top of the sculpture. When I first pulled up to this gallery I realized that it was very modern. The building had two different establishments on either side in a plaza setting. My first impression of this art exhibit is that it is very clean and roomy. Right when I walked into the building, the lady that was working there was very welcoming. This painting shows the scene of standing on the edge of a wood, and staring off into the distance at the field and mountains ahead. This painting is in one–point perspective. I can tell that it is one–point perspective because as I stood there, looking at this painting, I felt as though I was there in that scene. I felt as though there were more trees behind me since a tree stood in the top left corner of my vision. The field in the middle of the artwork, that covers a majority of the painting, is full of flowers, plants, and seems to go on forever. I can tell that the mountains are far in the distance because of the use of atmospheric perspective that gives the feeling of depth. The colors of the mountains, and how they seem like they are slowly fading, gives the feeling that there is depth, and that the mountains are getting farther and farther away. I would say that this artist style is realistic. The reason is that at first glance everyone would know what the painting is of. As I looked to the left of this painting I saw a painting by Karen Bloome who painted an abstract version of a wood, full of trees. The major visual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Renee Yohe The scene begins with Kat Dennings character 'Renee Yohe' laying on the ground after taking drugs. A high shot has been used to capture this moment as it usually represents vulnerability, therefore causing the audience to sympathise with Renee, and the position that she is in because she's powerless. This angle also enables us to view the mise–en–scene, which is extremely dreary as the colour scheme used consists of grey and black. These colours have been used as they have connotations of being seriously dull and depressing, thus reflecting the characters emotions and causing the audience have a further understanding of Renee and what sort of personality she has. Still in the same shot we hear the diegetic sound of a butterfly flapping its wings, it flies past Yohe who glances at it emotionlessly. Although this is a very small action, the butterfly holds great symbolism as its reminiscent of her childhood, because at the start of the film we are shown how Renee liked to draw bright coloured butterflies, the directors and producers of the movie ... The screen immediately switches to black and if you listen closely you can hear Yohe scream out 'no' but it's very faded out which gives off the feeling that is came from very far away. The fact that this shot only lasted for2 seconds shows how quickly Yohe lost her innocence, so fast that she hardly even noticed it, the audience's mind is left to wonder, did she experience a traumatic event? • 21. Response To Hericlitus To Hericlitus, a fire is not just a way to keep yourself warm or to cook food. In his writings, the fire represents the exchange of all things in the world. A fire turns air into smoke, wood into ash, and cold air into warm air. It is a medium of exchange for all of these things. In fragment 29, he states that the world–order is fire. What he means by this is that the world is all a medium of exchange and that being is a constant state of changing from one thing to another. If we look at this from the perspective of him trying to figure out the nature of all things, he is saying that to exist, you must be changing. • 28. Modernism vs Postmodernism Essay 'It quickly emerged that the proper and unique area of competence of each art coincided with all that was unique to the nature of its medium. The task of self–criticism became to eliminate from the effects of each art any and every effect that might conceivably be borrowed from or by the medium of any other art. Thereby each art would be rendered 'pure', and in its 'purify' find the guarantee of its standards of quality as well as of its independence. 'Purity' meant self–definition, and the enterprise of self–criticism in the arts became one of self–definition, with a vengeance.' Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This implies that painting, rather than 'using art to conceal art' (ibid) by creating illusionistic space and depth, should rather use art 'to call attention to art' (ibid), that is, to emphasise the unique characteristics of the medium; 'the flat surface, the shape of the support, the properties of pigment' (ibid). Greenberg states that such a process would render art 'pure', that is, autonomous, free of any extraneous elements deriving from other arts, such as theatricality or narrative. The impact of a painting should thus derive from those technical aspects characteristic of painting, such as colour, form and composition. An example of the sort of painting Greenberg was advocating at the time may clarify this. Morris Louis's painting Alpha–Phi (pl.D10) is exactly contemporary with the publication of 'Modernist Painting'. It consists of bold, ragged, diagonal streaks of pure colour against an off–white ground; Louis's use of acrylic paints, which soak into the canvas, means that the colours appear integrated with the ground and hence do not disrupt the flatness of the picture plane. Its effect depends upon the arrangement of colours and the large scale of the painting which makes it occupy 'so much of one's visual field that it loses its character as a discrete tactile object and thereby become that much more purely a picture, a strictly visual entity' (Greenberg, 'Louis and Noland', p.28). As a semi–autobiographical work, Buffalo 66 greatly exaggerates the events in the film and makes the viewers suspend disbelief on more than one occasion. Yet despite this, the main focus of this film is a broken Billy Brown's emotionally raw journey seeking revenge but instead finding unconditional love through Layla in the end, and the formalist film techniques used here enhance this. Gallo shot the movie on reversal film stock to capture that contrast and grain, in attempt to reproduce the same look of football games from the late 1960's and early 1970's. Buffalo 66's staging conveys many themes. One memorable use of staging is the dinner table scene with Billy, Layla, and Billy's mother and father. To exaggerate the emotional emptiness of the scene, the scene is framed in a medium long shot; however, the viewers see only three sides of the dinner table at any given moment, like a stage. The medium used by many man sculptors during the Second World War was metal. Metal serverved as the principal material to many artists as a result of two socio–political happenings, first of all because scraps of this industrial material was easy to find and second of all because these men learned how to weld in wartime factories. Contrary to these male artists who weld metal scrap into sculpture, Nevelson built sculpture out of wood. She rejected to make use of her male companion's choice of medium because "she felt that the noise and other aspects of the mechanical technique insulted her sensibilities" besides the fact that she did not feel an ancestral connection to this material (Lisle, 129). Wood for Nevelson was more than just a cheap material that was found laying around almost everywhere around the city in forms of broken furniture, milk crates and toys. • 64. Doré’s Engravings of Punishment of the Avaricious and the... The artist Gustave Doré engraved the entire Divine Comedy in wood. One of these 136 engravings is Punishment of the Avaricious and the Prodigal. This piece is an accurate illustration of The Inferno's Circle Four because it closely follows Dante's description in the text, it is creative, and it is well illustrated. Doré's depiction of Circle Four is accurate because it closely follows Dante's description in the text. Dante and Virgil enter Circle Four. Dante notices that "Here the sinners were more numerous than elsewhere, and they, with great shouts, from opposite sides were shoving burdens forward with their chests" (Dante 7.25–27). In Doré's illustration, the sinners push heavy weights around, and there appears to be a high consistency of people. From what the viewer can see of the sinners' faces, they look like they are in pain and struggle. It is important that none of the sinners' entire faces are exposed, as the text mentions that part of the punishment in Circle Four is that the sinners are rendered indistinguishable. Dante realizes that he cannot tell who any of the sinners are, and he asks Virgil why this is. Virgil responds: "The undiscerning life that made them foul now makes them hard to recognize" (Dante 7.53–54). Doré's illustration precisely reproduces Dante's imagined Circle Four as seen through his following of the text. Doré's illustration of Circle Four is accurate because it is creative. In the illustration, the sinners push bags of money. Nowhere in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Pieter Bruegel The Harvesters Essay The Harvesters "The Harvesters" is a landscape painting, painted by Pieter Bruegal the Elder, in the Netherlands in 1565. The art is of wheat harvesters who are working in the field, and apparently taking a break in the shade of a tree. The people in the painting are small in the painting, though there are many of them, which led me to determine the peasants are the focus. Bruegel painted the peasants eating under the pear tree while the others are harvesting wheat. This phenomenon relates to the culture and ideas of the people in that era. The Metropolitan Museum of Art calls "The Harvesters" a "watershed in the history of Western art" and the "first modern landscape". The workers carrying sheaves of wheat through the clearing, the people bathing in the pond, the children playing and the ships far away convey a sense of distance. Bruegel used the medium of oil to be used on wood when painting "The Harvesters". He painted on the paint lightly, and delicately so the brush strokes were almost untraceable. Single strands of hay are detectable in the patch, as well as extravagant detail in the far background. Throughout the entire painting, the wood does not show through, signifying completely opaque colors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The Harvesters" is essentially, I think, a visual contemplation on the near and far. The near focus is the peasants themselves. Bruegal shows us factual people: the man slouched with overtiredness, or drunkenness; the famished eaters; the men finishing their work before their lunch break. Yet, Bruegal exaggerates them somewhat. He sees a woman with straw–like hair, and another women hiking through the fields moving grain heaps. This new movement was originated and centered in Italy. Throughout the course of history, the limited accessibility to paper helped to mold and develop the medium and material in which artists used to draw. During the course of the Italian Renaissance artists improvised ways to express their art and emotions by using materials other than paper. Due to the fact that the technology for making paper from wood pulp was not discovered until the middle of the 19th century, the production of paper required cloth rags in large quantity. Introduction Intarsia is the woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes and different species of wood that are fitted together to create a 3–dimensional, mosaic–like picture. Intarsia is created through the selection of different types of wood, using their natural grain pattern and color to create variations in the pattern. The different species and colors of the wood contrasting lights and values. Similarly, grain gives the art amazing texture and makes it very realistic. History The Mediterranean world in the Middle Ages was covered in vast woodlands that composed a mixture of hard and softwood trees. • 76. How Wood Affect The Instrument's Sound The type of wood used in a drum will change the instrument's sound. Softer woods create smoother tones than harder woods. Depending on the type of sound desired, the manufacturer will pick a particular wood. Many of the softer, more pliable woods, such as spruce, require special care to avoid breakage during use. Wood acts as a conduit to transfer vibrations from the drum head to the acoustic chamber inside the drum. Selection When choosing wood for a drum, the maker must first determine which type of wood will work best for his purposes. Some of the factors that go into this choice include: the availability of the wood, its appearance and its ability to be molded and shaped. Wood that breaks easily is not a good choice because drums have to be curved and molded to fit a round shape. Woods that have low levels of moisture will crack easily, ... • 78. Birch Pape Paper The term ground refers to a prepared surface for painting. As a general guideline, any surface that is absorbent, rigid and heat resistant will work for encaustic art. Suitable grounds include wood, untempered masonite, stretched canvas or linen, plywood, drywall or plaster, unglazed ceramics, heavy watercolour or printmaking paper. Some grounds may need to be applied to a substrate for support. No Ground You can paint directly on raw wood. Select a nice grade of birch plywood and paint directly on it. Birch is absorbent, smooth and wonderful to paint on. Some artists prefer to begin with a layer of either clear or white encaustic paint which will show subsequent colours to full advantage. The drawback to this method is that it requires a higher degree of skill in controlling the paint, because the wax ground is susceptible to heat, and has the potential to re–melt and change as you work. Encaustic Gesso is used in artwork as a preparation for any number of substrates. Encaustic gesso is also available in white from R&F and from Evan's Encaustics.
