The Corpse Flower
I had purchased a commercial–residential high–rise, including the rights to the back rent, which I
got at a substantial discount. However, after deducting what I owe, I was still just the proud owner
of mortgage papers. My joints ached as I made my way down the hall. Ten years ago, I was a florist
until my doctor diagnosed me with arthritis. I resolved then to get enough funds to draw back and
live as comfortably as I could. Buying poorly managed buildings, casting out the dead beats, up the
rent, sell and buy a bigger building was my strategy. I knocked on the door of 6A with my cane.
"Landlord!" The sound of the afternoon soap opera that emanated from the apartment went silent. I
heard the footsteps approaching the door, the peephole went dark. I banged again louder this time.
"I'm the new landlord, come to pick up the rent." The door slowly opened to reveal a woman in her
late sixties. She wore a red dress of ankle length, flat shoes and short grey hair. "Forgive me, I
thought you might be one of those leafy green men." That's all I needed. A tenant who's not just slow
in her rent, but also a nut job. "Leafy green men?" "You must have seen them, everyone in the
building has. They're about half your height, dressed in leaves." They say to speak calmly to crazy
people and play along. "No, I haven't seen one, but I just bought this place and I need the rent." "Oh,
I have the money," She walked down the hall. "It's in the bedroom." She returned holding a wad of
bills,

A Short Story : A Story?
As the young woman clung to the picture a single tear rolled down her cheek. She could not believe
that it had been 363 days, 4 hours and 7 minutes since the day. As she walked downstairs and
plopped down on the couch covered with dust, she smelled the sharp stench of alcohol. Of course,
her mom had her morning 5 shots of vodka mixed with, you don't even want to know.
She heads outside, the car keys bouncing. She needed help, she knew it. No amount of support
groups or friends could take away her pain. She just wanted a simple cure, and nothing else seemed
to be giving her that. The screams, flashing lights, and screeching brakes haunted her dreams. As
she, with precise accuracy, pulled out of the driveway, she took a deep breath. Still, the thought
lingered in the back of her head... Would it be so bad to just let go, fall into an abyss of sorrow, and
welcome all of her pain? When she finally arrived at her destination, she kissed reality goodbye and
stepped inside the building.
When she approached the receptionist, she sighed and tried to get the receptionist's attention...
"Hello...Excuse me...Pardon me."
It was no use, the continuous clicking of the keyboard continued from behind the desk. Trying to
keep herself from not yelling at the person, she gripped the desk with her bony fingers and
whispered in a high, shaky voice, "Can I check myself in?"
She might have said that she was going to kill everyone in the building because the receptionist
jumped out of their chair and

Analysis Of Joe Garland's 'In The Mood'
The Jazz era was a time period in which the definition of music began to diverge; composers were
able to express themselves in a sense that was soulful and vibrant, where any door of possibility
became obtainable. "In The Mood" was a piece by Joe Garland composed in the 1930's during the
swing era. The iconic Jazz number had been arranged by many artists; however, it was not until
Glenn Miller orchestrated this piece so perceptively that "In The Mood" became so well renowned.
It was in 1939 when Miller seamlessly altered the Jazz piece that "In The Mood" was sent to number
1 on the U.S. charts for 13 weeks in 1940. It can be stated that Glenn Miller thoughtfully
manipulated "In The Mood" in the swing style that has in effect redefined this ... Show more content

Even through imitating the form, melody and rhythm, the piece still transformed into a diverse jazz
piece in comparison to the original. Once more, it is expressed that Glenn Miller thoughtfully
manipulated "In The Mood" that has in effect redefined this piece; this is proven through the
exploration of three key terminologies: Assimilate, Innovate and Imitate. Fundamentally, Jazz was a
powerful era that essentially changed the notions of music; Glenn Miller successfully explored this
convention and reformed "In The Mood" that completely altered its definition as a Jazz

Descriptive Essay About My Father
Sometimes I think I know everything there is to know about my father. I know he only shaves when
the greys start to show. I know he likes green tea better than black. He watches Hallmark movies at
Christmas because it reminds him of Gran. He likes to wear plaid ironically. He watched me being
born when he was seventeen–years–old. He tells me he loves me, not every day but every week at
least. He doesn't have to say it too often. He just loves. Even when Angelo left, he kept loving him.
He kept the little shells they had found on the beach when we drove to the Great Salt Lake. They're
lined up in a row on the bathroom windowsill. He also kept Angelo's shirts, the ones he left behind.
He wears them sometimes; the ones with holes from where sparks burned the fabric for Angelo's
welding projects. We've got one of those, too. A welding piece. It's a bird that has its wings up in a
"V." It's in the front yard of the cabin, rusty and brown. It gets older every month. Dad says it's sad
that he's gone. That's why it's dying. As if it's a real, living creature. As if it breathes, like it holds
some piece of Angelo, like it's a beacon that will bring him back. Dad sees beauty in the metal and
the edges. I see sharp points, a twisted back, an open mouth caught saying something like why do
you always do this to us or don't make this my fault or don't be so fucking sensitive. If there's
something I don't know about my dad, it's how he lived with it for so long. The cabin we live in is
more of an insulated shed. It has two lofts, a bathroom, and one big space for the couch and kitchen
and the fold–down table. It was the hunting cabin that Grampa used when he was alive. It's deep in
the woods, connected to the road by a mile–long driveway.
We're twenty miles from Little Pesos, which has the Walmart, library/church, ranger station and the
charter high school. I walk three miles to get to the bus stop that takes me the rest of the way. We
have classes from April to October. In winter, the weather is too unpredictable. Dad likes the cabin.
He likes the quiet and the trees that are crowded like cold children, arms wrapped around each other
for warmth. He likes to hunt, too. Grampa had showed him to shoot when he was a

The And Its Effects On Society
Time upon time, and many ages ago, there was an ancient planet called Kaspaar. This land was so
old, no inhabitant alive could remember the year of the creation of the world. This land is much like
ours. We could even live there, in fact, with no ill effects. The way it looks, though, is very different
from Earth. It may have mountains similar to ours, but its turquoise waters teem with rainbow–
colored fish, and that fair planet's bluish lands bristles with life.
There is intelligent life, called aquila, that lives there. They are very different from us, because they
are not humans. Their stature is an average of seven feet, and they have eagle's faces. The feathers
on their head grow rather like a shirt that drapes to mid–chest over their lithe brown bodies. They
have beautiful white wings, and a golden lion–like tail. In matters of clothing, by our standards, is
very scanty, because all they wear is a leather garment that goes down well past their knees,
fingerless gloves to protect their hands, and toeless boots that wrap around their backwards knees
like a glove. They have excellent memories, but do not always do the right thing.
They are divided into seven tribes; the Fire, Air, Snow, Wind, Water, Lightning, and Snake Tribes. In
all of these tribes, there are many forest, mountain, and ground villages. It is in one of these villages
where our story is set...

Leadership Styles : Leadership Style
When asking twenty different people, "What is the correct way to lead?", you will get twenty
different responses. Most importantly, no response is incorrect and the variation of responses is
expected because there are many ways to lead; every leader has their own leadership style. In her
article, Johnson (n.d.) discusses five leadership styles: Laissez–Faire, autocratic, transactional,
transformational and participative. Laissez–Faire has a French origin and it means "a policy or
attitude of letting things take their own course, without interfering" ("Oxford dictionaries", 2016).
When leaders take total control, such as making all decisions alone and does not ask for the input of
the employees, they are using the autocratic leadership style. This style is similar to a dictatorship.
Exceptionally dissimilar from Laissez–Faire and autocratic styles, leaders sometime use the "give–
take" system. The transactional style lets the manager and employee agree on a goal and when the
mission is completed, the leader will reward the employee for the great accomplishment. The same
rule applies if the employee does not reach a set goal; they will be discipline accordingly. A morale
boosting style is the participative style. Whenever a leader includes their employees in the decision
making process, the employees tend to feel needed and essential. Even though the final decision is
made by the leader, the employees' input and suggestions is considered and incorporated in the final

Forman Framework Of Corus Entertainment
The storytelling strategies exhibited by Corus Entertainment can be analyzed more closely through
the Forman Framework. As a guide for organizations, the primary function of the Forman
Framework is to determine whether storytelling efforts by companies are successful in components
such as: building trust, fluency, and authenticity.
The Forman Framework As mentioned previously, Corus is successful in exhibiting authenticity
over all their communication platforms as their words match their deeds. Moreover, their vision,
story, and micronarratives consist of both tacit and explicit knowledge that can be verified by
employees and partners. Thus, Corus does not advertise false information or follow a persona of
"more talk, less action". The organization's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, all updates are published to the company website and social media platforms in the
same order and frequently. Considering how consistent the brand is with publishing content, their
stories are able to deliver authenticity and fluency in ways that sustain their competitive advantage.
Corus' can also be highly commended on their vision–driven narrative which has remained the same
since 1999. By continuing to work towards achieving the company's vision, Corus has solidified
their masterplot and prioritized the micronarratives of their employees and affiliated brands, thereby
allowing personal values to align with those of the company. Through strong storytelling strategies,
Corus has grown into one of Canada's most influential integrated media and entertainment
companies; their achievement of 900 awards in 15 years proves their success (Corus Entertainment,

Construction Ownership Structure : Shaw Communications...
6.0 Ownership Structure: Shaw communications equity structure is comprised of series A shares and
series B shares. Series B shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange, and 50% of these shares are
owned by the top 25 shareholders. 40% of the shares are owned by financial institutions as part of
their investment portfolios. Only 12% of the shares are owned by insiders, i.e. Shaw family and/or
executives. Since these shares don't have voting options, their ownership is mainly for capital gain
and dividend purposes. On the other hand, series A shares have an embedded voting option, and
78% of the shares are owned by the Shaw family within the Shaw Family Living Trust (SFLT1).
Therefore, Shaw family has total control of the company's decisions. This increases the overall risk
to the firm as ordinary shareholders have no say over the operations of the firm. The main
implication is agency risk, as no one can exercise a final vote but the Shaw family. Company
decisions could be biased towards Shaw family's interest, and not in the best interest of other
shareholders. Bad signals could make investors to withdraw their investments from the company,
and Shaw's market capitalization would plummet. The dual class structure and the current ownership
structure increases the operating risk, and hence the required rate of return for equity. As a
consequence the WACC of the firm is deemed to increase. 7.0 Market Value of Capital Structure: As

"I've assigned two officers to Dyanna Montarro's home. I have three other squad cars stationed there
for a time as well." "Why not call in the National Guard too? I told you we should have taken her
back for further questioning. And you know what the boss is going to say." "What can he say?"
Banks saw Nailon pull out a cigarette. Chuck tended to grab them during times of duress. It amazed
her how someone as tough as Nailon felt he needed to smoke in stressful times. "C'mon," he said in
a sarcastic tone. "You know the pencil–necked pimp is going to complain, don't you?" "I don't care.

unnecessarily reckless. You owe your personal safety if not to your partner but to your family."
"What about the victims, Chuck?" Banks understood Nailon's point. Banks had a family; a
wonderful husband and her precious six year old daughter. She was already writing letters to Santa
Claus. And she just learned to dance with some rhythm to some Rock 'n' Roll songs. She was the
light of Rosalie Banks life. But she admitted to herself that she had sworn an oath as did Chuck.
"They deserve our best Chuck. It's why we're here." Nailon stepped away and glared at two officers.
He growled, "What are you looking at? Get back to work." He stared back at Banks. Their eyes met
and instantly pulled away. After a minute, Banks spoke. "We've no physical evidence of Julia or
Warren's death. Nor do we know of their whereabouts. There's some blood but no bodies. No bodies
from anyone. If there was any, they've all disappeared." "Any ideas?" "Not really. I'll want to speak

Mary and the Girls
Mary watched the water dance and sparkle in the bright sun, it was a perfect summers day, the beach
was crowded with sun lovers and the smell of sunscreen and barbeques floated in the air. She drew
in a deep breath enjoying the salt tang of the sea, then focused her look back at the two little girls
playing in front of her.
They had all the serious concentration of four year olds as the dug a hole in the sand, then pouring
water into it, giggling when it disappeared into the sand. Their brown curls shone and their little
swimsuits were covered in wet sand. Mary also noticed that they were starting to look a little pink,
so decided it was probably time to go rather than apply more sunscreen.
Both girls pouted when she told them to pack up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two girls had both fallen asleep on the way back so she gently lifted each on out and put her
onto the couch, they stirred but obviously tired from their day in the sun, kept sleeping.
Mary went back out to the car to bring in the girls toys she noticed the silver car again, this time a
couple of doors down, she quickly locked the car then rushed inside and locked the door. She
wondered if she should call the police, but when she thought about it decided they would tell her to
do exactly what she had done, lock the door. Mary was sure now that the person in the car had been
following her, but why she didn't know.
About a hour later the girls woke from their sleep grouchy hungry, Mary bathed them then gave
them each a frozen banana she had promised them, they sat out deck in the late afternoon sun slowly
regaining their cheerful tempers while Mary got on with making their dinner, she decided she would
eat later after they had gone to bed, so made them boiled mash veggies with tuna, a meal close to
been their favourite right after the bananas. When they had eaten she let them play for a while before
putting them to bed. It was 8 o'clock before she felt she could sit down with her dinner, she wasn't
particularly hungry so just picked at a salad and a glass of wine. Turning over in her mind she tried
to figure out why she had been followed but came up with a blank, in the end she decided to call her
sister and talk it over with her.

In the Mouth of Union Terminal Essay
Chapter Four Mona held open the creaky wooden door as Emma stepped into the building. The
walls were either painted a light green, which the lights picked up and reflected throughout the hall,
or the florescent light cast the minty color over off–white walls. Either way, the space made Emma
think of straightjackets and padded cells. The cold linoleum floor, however, resembled icepacks,
soothing her road–beaten bare feet. The smooth surface felt like a pillow compared to the gravel and
pebble–strewn street. A few framed posters, like the signs she saw on the houses, hung on the walls,
depicting staged scenes of people shaking hands in an office, moving into apartments, and cleaning
up mountain trails. The phrase, "This is the Place, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

arched. "Emma what?" "Sinclair." "Age?" "Twenty six." "Do you have any items to declare?"
"Pardon?" The stark obviousness that Emma had only the clothing she wore, made Shelly's question
feel like an insult to injury. Shelly looked up from her paper and waited. Emma found it not only
absurd, but painful, considering everything she owned is now gone. She blurted, "I must have
forgotten to grab those oranges on my way over." Shelly sat up straight, finally looking awake. She
leaned forward, and placed her elbows on the desk, her fingers laced together. "Miss, I'm trying to
help you. I've got plenty of folks here who would be thrilled to perform a cavity search on such a
sweet, young thing like yourself, so I suggest answering my questions without attitude." Emma
nodded and looked away. Next to the desk, a sign with a tally board hung from a nail. "2 days since
last intake." "So, any items to declare?" she repeated. "No." "Good. Next question. Do you need
medical attention?" Remembering the burn to her hand, she glanced down at her palm. Even though
it shone red, the stinging had subsided. "I don't think so." Shelly looked at her with indifference.

* Give the company its own identity. (John Gamble, 2015)
According to Shaw's Annual Return from 2013, the company mission statement is as follow:
"Shaw is committed to providing customers with a communications ecosystem characterized by
leading technology, networks, content, products and services. As customers demand connectivity
and content, Shaw will deliver to them at home, and on the go, with best–in–class wired and Wi–Fi
networks." (Shaw, 2013)
The mission statement above specifies Shaw's service, which is to provide its customers with a
communication ecosystem. Additionally, it gives the description of the ecosystem. This can be very
useful for the customers because they can see if the Shaw's services would support their needs.
Although this statement does not specify the customer groups that Shaw serve, it is easy to conclude
that the customers are everyone who requires a high quality communications ecosystem. This
mission statement also identifies the customers' demands like connectivity and content, and it
explains how Shaw would please them. Furthermore, the statement employs a specific language and
gives the company its own identity.
Overall, we find that Shaw's mission statement is well written. Although it is only two sentences
long, it is clear and brief. It shows the company's direction and can serve well to the both, customers
and employees of Shaw. Most of the business's mission statements are customer–oriented or product

Analysis Of The Movie ' The Great Gatsby ' By F. Scott...
Long beaten out by the glaring sun, Noctis and his friends stood on outside of the car. Prompto, who
was leaning on the front wheel, gawked at the young woman coming up to them. Her blonde hair
was tucked underneath a faded, red cap, along with that, she wore faded blue jean shorts and a faded
yellow jacket zipped down to reveal an orange bikini top that Prompto couldn 't help but drool over.
"So which one of y 'all is the prince?" She asked, speaking in a thick, southern drawl.
Noctis stood up from behind the front wheel and Cindy immediately spotted him. "There you are,

Cindy smiled at him to which he returned a crosed smirk.
"Then why don 't y 'all have a look around." She handed him the map. "This is so you won 't get

"That doesn 't sound like that bad of an idea to pass time," Iris said, walking over to them. "I mean,

"For fun..." She mused over the question. "Tinkerin ' with the cars 'round here is the most fun I ever

"Dangerous creatures," Noctis said.
"Oh then we should take on some hunts while we 're here, Noct."
"Sure thing, betcha we can make some easy money that way."
"That 's the idea!"
"Hey Noct, Iris, check this out!" Prompto beckoned, he was standing outside of the convenience

finally heading over.

later saying "Big, ugly homes for big, ugly people". I think author has this paragraph by him, so we
can know how he thinks about rich people and about other tradition. Entry 5: Passage: "You'd better

This was called "The First Thanksgiving." Thanksgiving is still celebrated every year on the fourth

Giant Dreams, Midget Abilities Essay
David Sedaris writes about his experience taking guitar lessons in "Giant Dreams, Midget Abilities"
after his father decided that he and his younger sisters should start a family music group. However,
Sedaris has no desire to learn how to play guitar. His desire lies within singing jingles in the voice of
Billie Holiday. Sedaris' desire to sing in the voice of Billie Holiday is probably closely related to his
sexual orientation, being gay, and his father's passion for jazz music.
There is an implication of femininity in Sedaris' desire to mimic Billie Holiday's voice. Billie
Holiday was an American jazz singer whose career took off in the 1930s. Some would find it

I'd done my solo and would now move on to pursue other equally unsuccessful ways of getting
attention." Singing in the voice of Billie Holiday seemed to be one of the few ways Sedaris thought
he could express his feminine side comfortably. Unfortunately for him, being shot down by Mancini
caused him to dispose of such a dream.
Sedaris' desire to sing like Billie Holiday can also be linked to his father's passion for jazz music.
His father loved jazz music almost to the point of obsessive–compulsiveness, where he'd sit down
and analyze each note and the timing of the jazz songs playing on his record player, and although
Sedaris claims to also love jazz, it wasn't enough to convince his father. "Because it was the music
we'd grown up with, I liked to think that my sisters and I had a genuine appreciation of jazz. We
preferred it over the music our friends were listening to, yet nothing we did or said could convince
my father of our devotion," (p. 17) writes Sedaris. Singing like Billie Holiday might have been a
way for Sedaris to be closer to his father, or at least allow the two of them to bond in a way based on
a common interest. Because of the controversy about homosexuals, Sedaris probably wasn't open
about his sexuality with his father, thus not feeling close to him. In singing in the style of Billie
Holiday, one could assume that it could be appreciated by any lover of jazz, such as

Jazz and World War II: Reciprocal Effects and Relationships
Both Jazz music and World War II had a significant impact on each other. Jazz music boosted the
morale of soldiers fighting abroad and also lifted the spirits of their loved ones back at home. Many
jazz musicians were soldiers, and several others traveled overseas or across the country to entertain
U.S. troops. Among these performers were Bing Crosby, Artie Shaw, and Benny Carter. Jazz music
was not only evident in American culture, but also in European countries, particularly in Nazi–
occupied areas where it was a sign of rebellion. I want to further explore how the war affected the
accessibility of jazz during the time, as well as how the war helped shape the musical direction ...

Rebellious German teens would listen to allied music stations in private, with disregard to the
wishes of the empire. The popularity of jazz was seen as a tribute all of those who suffered from
Hitler's ban on Jazz in Germany. Many music halls and bars were shut down, and much anti–jazz
propaganda was spread throughout occupied Europe. It can be argued that jazz acted as a resistance
to the Nazi and their ideals in Germany; jazz was an export to American Culture, at a time when
occupied Europe was ready to accept and embrace new cultures.
On the home front, World War II had an incredible effect on the American jazz scene. One of the
biggest setbacks fro jazz was the increasing difficulty with travel during the war. Musicians
struggled to travel around the country to perform, as the rationing of rubber and gasoline limited the
mobility of many swing bands. In addition, there were fewer buses and trains available for bands, as
the majority were often occupied with servicemen on War business. Between the Great Depression
and World War II, America needed money, and the multimillion dollar business of ballroom dancing
and big bands was targeted with an incredibly–high 30% "Cabaret Tax." This tax led to the closing
of numerous clubs all around the United States, because ballrooms and clubs could no longer afford
to pay big bands to come play. The tax started the economic cycle that closed many of these

Life After Death : Short Story
Life After Death: When Hardship Confronts Forever
A soft hand of a patient slithers through a field of IV's and other medical tubing until it finally
reaches it's destination – my hand. With prolonged tenderness, a thumb caressed my hand, making
small circles in a caring manner as an expression of human empathy. As her cracked lips pivoted
skyward, she closed her eyes and returned to her placid state where she thought of her son, and how
much time she would have left with him. The only thing that comforted her in this moment were the
words we shared. She was a young mother with cancer, and the pain she was going through was
palpable.
"Do you wish to go through with this" I said.
"Yes, I do. It is for the better" Saraya replied. A look of profound sadness had swept over her face.
We both knew this was inevitable. Her son would live his life without a mother at his side. A
cascade of warmth flowed down both our faces.
Josiah could only look at his mother with a gaze of unsurmountable grief. "Why did God let you
have cancer, why didn't he prevent this?"
"My son, I know it is hard." Saraya paused trying to catch her breathe. "You must know that God is
good, and everything he has created is good."
"But you're in so much pain! I'll be all alone! Why does this have to happen! How is this even
good!" Josiah screamed.
"Josiah, all these moments will be lost in time like tears in rain" Saraya replied softly. "I don't have

The Witch
The children disappeared into vapor as she continued to tumble and by the third to last step of the
staircase the knife was firmly working its way up through the witch's jaw inching its way closer to
its hilt. Soon it completely severed her tongue, and making its way into her sinuses. With the
pressure put on the knife from being slammed into the second to last step, the knife began cutting
into her brain. With the last step it entered her brain fully. Then, when the witch had finally hit the
floor of the landing, the knife buried itself wholly in her skull like it had entered into its protective
sheath. By the time it was finished it had severed her brain in two, only stopping because its hilt had
finally reached her jaw bone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with a story about ponies and rainbows and magic wishes coming true. Yeah, that 's really going to
top my hair–raising tale and put an exclamation point on this night." Just then the jack–o'–lanterns
heard the old man down at the end of the driveway asking the old woman to grab him another beer.
She had been on her way up to the house to get more candy for the remaining trick–or–treaters that
may arise. "You 've had enough beer already," the old woman said, calling back to the old man.

The Importance Of Binge Viewing
What comes to mind when I think of binge watching? I guess, in a very technical sense, its watching
more than a couple episodes of something. I see the term, less connected with watching movies. I
suppose you could binge watch movies, but I think that the term has more connotations with
television programs rather than movies. To me, I think binge watching implies that you are watching
multiple episodes of some kind of series.
I don't know, I don't think there is any, and maybe there is, in a scholastic scenes, but I don't think
that there is any hard and fast definition of watching this amount or these amount of episodes for
this long, equals binge watching. I think, it's more of a, I have some time to devote to this, I don't

Michael: But that is sort of the only interactivity that I have, I suppose.
Interviewer: Cool, so, you have said that you have been watching TV for quite some time now in
your life and that obviously advertising when you were growing up were these traditional
commercial interactions, have you noticed, if at all, how advertising has changed throughout that

Michael: You know, that is a tough question. I don't think that I have really noticed, necessarily a
change in advertising, but it may just be that my level of engagement with it has never been high to
begin with. So, it's possible that it has gotten sort of more sophisticated then when I was much
younger, but again, my level of engagement was never that high to begin with, so I don't think that I
ever really thought about it or how it has changed, but I am sure it has, in some ways.

that? Can you ever binge watch with

Karl pulled a dining chair over and sat down. "No, and I am very relieved he isn't."
The men brought the clutter of the barbecue into the kitchen. Penny watched in horror as her mother

The Naked Eye And Inner Eye Of Bishop
Naked Eye and Inner Eye of Bishop From the perspective of a normal person with penetrating
perception and description instead of omniscient point of view (or God), the poetry of Elisabeth
Bishop tend to allow the truth drift itself with seemingly natural expression. There is realism,
lyricism and romanticism in her work, all melded in a most individual manner of perception and
poetry–making, and I would try to analyze the diversity of the vision angles of her work.
1. The naked eye––a painter's eye
Wonderful details may be one of the most impressive characters, but with so many details come

Isn't it a beautiful but gloomy fairy tale? "I was crazy about fairy tales––Andersen, Grimm and so

the fancy might be that it was the heyday of surrealism or the necessity of expression, but I would
like to appreciate the it as the special way to memorize and reflection on her sense of childhood and
present life.
Fairy tale provide the perspective of an innocent child who just paints and show her work proudly to
her grandmother. But the fancy of the almanac, stove and tears is the implication of the unavoidable
and everlasting suffering of one's life. Bishop maybe tend to tell the little Bishop that "it's time to
plant tears, it's time to nourish your pursuit with setbacks of life, just appreciate it!"
Besides, it's also the childlike innocence in her inner world that encourage herself to face the
hardship and depression with hope (but still a mixture of gloomy and brilliance). Maybe the almanac

the blossom of our "art" by planting our

Right after breakfast the next morning, Dr. Davis showed up with a bright smile on his face.
"Good morning, John. How are you feeling today?" he greeted cheerfully in an attempt to gauge
how his patient's mood was and how he felt towards therapy.
Grimacing, Johnny shrugged, "Am fine."
Nodding, the doctor set down the few items he had brought for the first session.
"I know that Doctor Early has you on less medicine to help with pain, so you may hurt a bit more
right now. The exercises I do with you and ask your family to help you with may cause some pain
too," he warned. "The pain shouldn't get to bad, if it does, tell someone. Otherwise, what you do in
physical therapy will help with the pain. It will take a bit, but once we get you moving, your body

"Pain now...so, less...later?" Johnny asked slowly and carefully, trying to remember what his Uncle

"Yes, exactly!"
"And great job kiddo," Roy grinned at Johnny. "That is what I meant by speaking all the words in
your head. I know it'll be hard, but like I said, Aunt Jo, me, Chris, Jenny and others will be here for

Smiling bashfully with pink running through his cheeks, John turned back to Doctor Davis. Sensing

Communication : Communication Is The Illusion That It Has...
Communication
"The Single Biggest Problem in Communication is the Illusion that it has Taken Place" –George
Bernard Shaw
In the 21st century our communication mediums have changed, know we Whats App Facebook or
email rather than calling or visiting in person. What hasn 't changed is that when we communicate
most of the time another human being is on the other end and. This chapter will discuss not only
how to communicate with diplomacy but how messages of communication are interpreted. In the
workplace communication is probably one of the most important factors as people need to receive
clearly communicated messages to be on the right track. It could be that you need to so some public
speaking at the workplace and not only is your confidence being shook up, your nerves are on edge
worrying how to communicate you message. Not only how we communicate with others that
impacts our success what's also a key part is how we communicate with ourselves and overcome
internal negative dialogue. Did you know that only 8% of our communication is based on the words
we say? Also did you know that 37% of our communication is based on our tone of voice? Did you
know that the remaining 55% comes from our facial expressions and body language? If you find this
hard to believe just think of when someone says something to you and they come across as rude.
More often than not it was the way they said it vs the actual words they said. When communication

My Body : A Deep Sense Of Resistance And Confusion
When I started my body drawing I experienced a deep sense of resistance and confusion. So badly I
wanted to feel joyful and excited. While contemplating my reluctance, I thought, this is my temple,
right? I know it well. Shouldn't I be diving right in? Nevertheless, the entire drawing was an itchy
stubborn journey, one through which I discovered a complex truth: this so called 'temple' is a
concept which is defined in part by isolate functions, biological rules, capabilities, and quality of
growth. However, equally I found that it is regularly defined and re–defined by how it is used,
utilised, communicated with, and objectified by others (in this instance others would be anything
outside of the self that relates to or interacts with the body).
As I plastered the butcher paper cut–out onto the canvas face with gesso, the edges began to smear
and blur. Immediately, I had to consider what that meant for my body. The drawing Jeff did of my
figure was inaccurate. I looked thinner in the calves and rounder at the head. Wondering what it
might be like to do the whole thing again, I mused, could I ever be happy with a butcher paper
drawing of myself? Probably not. Since I was about eleven or twelve years old I have been
somewhere between mildly and frighteningly discontented with my physical self. My lips were
never full enough, my waist not tight enough, there was always something needing editing about my
figure and face. So why did I expect that my feelings about a butcher

Summary Of Michael Vey : Hunt For Jade Dragon
Wouldn't it be crazy if you had a group of friends that had special powers and used them to fight bad
people? Well in Michael Vey: Hunt For Jade Dragon by Richard Paul Evans, This is not crazy, it's
normal for Michael and his friends. Michael is on a mission to get Jade Dragon, which is a little girl,
out of the starxource plant. But the reason they have to get her out is because she knows how to
make more elgen. But the thing is, Hatch wants to use the elgen, which are glows, for bad. Hatch
wants to take over the world with the elgen. But just when they think they did it, their mission goes
south and they are informed that the ranch, The place where they're parents are and where they used
to live, was attacked by the elgen. Michael and his friends must go back and see the damage that has
been done and get revenge. "I don't think I can swim it," Nichelle said " I'm not a good swimmer."
"Can you hold your breath for thirty seconds?" Jack asked. She looked at him " I think so," "Then
you can do it. If you can swim, I'll carry you out." Nichelle looked at him quizzically. "Why?" "We
don't leave family behind" For a moment Nichelle was speechless. "Thank you". (Evans 261)
The passage above connects to the theme because the theme of this book is all about teamwork and
never leaving family behind. Throughout the book there are multiple times where they use their
teamwork to get over obstacles and to complete a task. They all come together and use their powers
to defeat the people in their way, so that they can get to jade dragon. And in the quote they use
teamwork to get out of situations, and to help each other is they need help. It shows how they treat
each other like family, and will never leave anyone behind. One setting from the novel that is
important to the plot is the ranch, The ranch is where they were staying at until they have to go to
China and Taiwan, it is also where they're parents are why they are in China and Taiwan. I chose this
because it is important. It sets up for another book, and it is a good way to tell the reader about the
story. I think it will help them understand the story. The ranch is where they were before they went to

If I ever find myself fighting a group of Judgement day members then I will make sure to finish

St Joseph Research Paper
Deep in the thick swamps and woods of Northern Gulf County, amidst the buzz and sting of

"Goodwill" from Shaw's acquisitions represent (i.e., what are some of the economic assets that
comprise this account)? Which intangible assets and liabilities does Shaw amortize over time?
Which intangibles, if any, are not amortized? Shaw defines Goodwill as the "excess of the purchase
price of acquisitions over the fair value of the net assets acquired" (Note 1). The net assets acquired
include not only tangible assets and liabilities, such as accounts receivable and PP&E, but all
separately identifiable and transferable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the "extra" profit of these contracts was recognized at acquisition, there must be a reduction
in profits recognized at contract completion to avoid double counting. The amortization of contract
liability adjustments (and accrued contract losses) reduces costs of revenues. Again, the "extra"
losses of the contracts were recognized at acquisition, so cost of revenues is reduced to avoid double
counting. 3. Using Exhibit 2, compute Shaw's gross profit margin for each quarter between 2000:

Chocolate Frog Persuasive Speech
Ohh!! Yes! I already understand what the expression "sick as chocolate frog" means, or at least I
think so... we're talking about a true frog supposedly covered in chocolate, aren't we? Yes, certainly,
that sounds quite unpleasant... I suppose those Americans understood what you had meant, Ken...
Well... I'll try to use that expression in some time here, and I'll see what happen, haha!!! The
expression that I usually use since I learnt it, is "It's not my cup of tea", it's strange but, since I use
that phrase I don't get to remember which is its equivalent one here.
Oh! Some days ago a cousin of mine posted a video of Smoke on the water, and he made the
following comment "What relationship can there be between Bob Dylan and Deep Purple? Only ...

The curious is that those remains were found in a beach that is visited by thousand of tourists every
summer. The scientists think the place was a swamp or a flooded area of shallow depth about
100.000 years ago. Also, they found footprints of a running bird called Rheidae about 4.92 ft high,
footprints of Hidrochoeridae, a sort of big mouse about 4.26 ft long; and finally, three toes from a
paw that scientists suppose they could be compatible with the ones of the Macraucheniidae, that
were similar the current camels. The article doesn't say what prehistoric animals the bones belong
to.
On May 19 at 9PM, an unknown object fell, from space, at some point into the sea, between a town
called Carilo and another called Villa Gesell. The meteorite caused a great light preceded by a loud
noise, as an explosion, that caused a slight trembling that alarmed to people. Some people think that
what fell from the sky could be part of an old satellite or a piece of space junk that fell out of orbit,
and others that it was a meteorite, but the truth is that the experts haven't said absolutely anything
about it

Five Birthday Secrets
5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor's office, it was so dark in the streets I almost
tripped on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so
excited because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like
banners, streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY."
then "JINKS." We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piñata.] it was all so fun.
After the party while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when me and
Hunter where about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we would open
The Book of Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the box was a lot of
tissue paper and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the box that held the
book and brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it was that book that
had cased all that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell out. We each took one,
my paper said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter both have powers, yours
are– Invisible, shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go back in time, super speed,
super strong, teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls, and control the weak
minded. LOVE, Dad and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed feeling confused, and
powerful if you know what I mean. 6

A Short Story : A Story?
"Mom?" I squealed. My mom went back to her work with the kitchen counter. I got up from my bed
and peeked through my bedroom door. My suitcase had stood there, still full with two months worth
of clothes. I just sat and laid on my bed for the rest of the night. On the next morning, my mom
came to a stop at my door. "Knock, knock, knock." "Izzy? Are you still in your room? I need you to
come out honey your Nana's on the phone." My mom had been woken up by the ring of my nana's
call for me. I had got up from my bed, out the door, and to the phone. "Hello? Nana? Are you
there?" I murmured into the phone. She took a while to respond, but she eventually did. "Hello
sweety. So nice to hear your grown–up voice. I can't wait to have you over. It will be a journey for
the both of us to explore!" "Yeah, nana I can't wait to see you. See you in New Mexico." I replied as
I rolled my eyes and hung up the phone. As I had hung up the phone and walked back to my room to
get dressed I thought, why couldn't my mom have finished college when she was still young? I
wanted to ask my mom that question, but I won't hear the end of it. Two days pass after the phone
call from nana which makes today is the day of my flight. This is going to be the worst two months
of my life. "Come on Izzy hurry up and get dressed. You don't want to miss your flight." My mom
hollered to get me moving. I rolled my eyes and quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed, had
breakfast, and got my shoes on.

Essay Disputing the Canon
Disputing the Canon
I was in the best of settings when I realized that Shakespeare was indeed great. My freshman year in
high school, I had English class with an esteemed teacher, Mr. Broza–hailed as the Paul D.
Schreiber High School Shakespeare aficionado, founder of Schreiber's Annual Shakespeare Day,
and, perhaps most heart–warming of all, a self–proclaimed Shakespeare lover whose posters of The
Bard could be found as wallpaper in his small office. How lucky I thought I was. Indeed, if I wanted
to appreciate Hamlet, I was in the right hands.
But how misled I actually was–at least, in Walker Percy's eyes. In his essay, "The Loss of the
Creature," Percy recalls a scene from The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter:
...the girl hides in the bushes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After sitting by a tree and reading the text front–to–back, perhaps then I would be able to "see"
Shakespeare in Percy's sense of the word.
Percy's noble task is to open our minds to the possibility that we are not the masters of what we
know–that, in part, what we know and what we see, when approached passively, have a lot more to
do with "preformed symbolic complex" than with ourselves (512). Percy's exploration achieves one
of the main goals of all philosophy–to change the way we think about things. He changes the
meaning of many concepts human beings tend to take for granted. Sight is no longer the mere act of
seeing, but "a struggle," an act of understanding and appreciation (523). "Sovereignty," in relation to
things, is no longer some abstract concept of "power," but an ability to interpret for oneself (517).
Education–or perhaps more specifically, its dynamic–is reshaped, for it is no longer a passive act
(i.e. "being taught to") but an action that relies much more upon the student, who "may have the
greatest difficulty in salvaging the creature itself from the educational package in which it is
presented" (519). These concept–alterations are thus meant to alter our reality; they aim to help us
rediscover in art what he calls in his opening paragraph an island, "Formosa." This previously
untouched island is beautiful to its discoverer

The Corpse Flower

  • 1. The Corpse Flower I had purchased a commercial–residential high–rise, including the rights to the back rent, which I got at a substantial discount. However, after deducting what I owe, I was still just the proud owner of mortgage papers. My joints ached as I made my way down the hall. Ten years ago, I was a florist until my doctor diagnosed me with arthritis. I resolved then to get enough funds to draw back and live as comfortably as I could. Buying poorly managed buildings, casting out the dead beats, up the rent, sell and buy a bigger building was my strategy. I knocked on the door of 6A with my cane. "Landlord!" The sound of the afternoon soap opera that emanated from the apartment went silent. I heard the footsteps approaching the door, the peephole went dark. I banged again louder this time. "I'm the new landlord, come to pick up the rent." The door slowly opened to reveal a woman in her late sixties. She wore a red dress of ankle length, flat shoes and short grey hair. "Forgive me, I thought you might be one of those leafy green men." That's all I needed. A tenant who's not just slow in her rent, but also a nut job. "Leafy green men?" "You must have seen them, everyone in the building has. They're about half your height, dressed in leaves." They say to speak calmly to crazy people and play along. "No, I haven't seen one, but I just bought this place and I need the rent." "Oh, I have the money," She walked down the hall. "It's in the bedroom." She returned holding a wad of bills, ... • 3. A Short Story : A Story? As the young woman clung to the picture a single tear rolled down her cheek. She could not believe that it had been 363 days, 4 hours and 7 minutes since the day. As she walked downstairs and plopped down on the couch covered with dust, she smelled the sharp stench of alcohol. Of course, her mom had her morning 5 shots of vodka mixed with, you don't even want to know. She heads outside, the car keys bouncing. She needed help, she knew it. No amount of support groups or friends could take away her pain. She just wanted a simple cure, and nothing else seemed to be giving her that. The screams, flashing lights, and screeching brakes haunted her dreams. As she, with precise accuracy, pulled out of the driveway, she took a deep breath. Still, the thought lingered in the back of her head... Would it be so bad to just let go, fall into an abyss of sorrow, and welcome all of her pain? When she finally arrived at her destination, she kissed reality goodbye and stepped inside the building. When she approached the receptionist, she sighed and tried to get the receptionist's attention... "Hello...Excuse me...Pardon me." It was no use, the continuous clicking of the keyboard continued from behind the desk. Trying to keep herself from not yelling at the person, she gripped the desk with her bony fingers and whispered in a high, shaky voice, "Can I check myself in?" • 5. Analysis Of Joe Garland's 'In The Mood' The Jazz era was a time period in which the definition of music began to diverge; composers were able to express themselves in a sense that was soulful and vibrant, where any door of possibility became obtainable. "In The Mood" was a piece by Joe Garland composed in the 1930's during the swing era. The iconic Jazz number had been arranged by many artists; however, it was not until Glenn Miller orchestrated this piece so perceptively that "In The Mood" became so well renowned. It was in 1939 when Miller seamlessly altered the Jazz piece that "In The Mood" was sent to number 1 on the U.S. charts for 13 weeks in 1940. It can be stated that Glenn Miller thoughtfully manipulated "In The Mood" in the swing style that has in effect redefined this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even through imitating the form, melody and rhythm, the piece still transformed into a diverse jazz piece in comparison to the original. Once more, it is expressed that Glenn Miller thoughtfully manipulated "In The Mood" that has in effect redefined this piece; this is proven through the exploration of three key terminologies: Assimilate, Innovate and Imitate. Fundamentally, Jazz was a powerful era that essentially changed the notions of music; Glenn Miller successfully explored this convention and reformed "In The Mood" that completely altered its definition as a Jazz ... • 7. Descriptive Essay About My Father Sometimes I think I know everything there is to know about my father. I know he only shaves when the greys start to show. I know he likes green tea better than black. He watches Hallmark movies at Christmas because it reminds him of Gran. He likes to wear plaid ironically. He watched me being born when he was seventeen–years–old. He tells me he loves me, not every day but every week at least. He doesn't have to say it too often. He just loves. Even when Angelo left, he kept loving him. He kept the little shells they had found on the beach when we drove to the Great Salt Lake. They're lined up in a row on the bathroom windowsill. He also kept Angelo's shirts, the ones he left behind. He wears them sometimes; the ones with holes from where sparks burned the fabric for Angelo's welding projects. We've got one of those, too. A welding piece. It's a bird that has its wings up in a "V." It's in the front yard of the cabin, rusty and brown. It gets older every month. Dad says it's sad that he's gone. That's why it's dying. As if it's a real, living creature. As if it breathes, like it holds some piece of Angelo, like it's a beacon that will bring him back. Dad sees beauty in the metal and the edges. I see sharp points, a twisted back, an open mouth caught saying something like why do you always do this to us or don't make this my fault or don't be so fucking sensitive. If there's something I don't know about my dad, it's how he lived with it for so long. The cabin we live in is more of an insulated shed. It has two lofts, a bathroom, and one big space for the couch and kitchen and the fold–down table. It was the hunting cabin that Grampa used when he was alive. It's deep in the woods, connected to the road by a mile–long driveway. We're twenty miles from Little Pesos, which has the Walmart, library/church, ranger station and the charter high school. I walk three miles to get to the bus stop that takes me the rest of the way. We have classes from April to October. In winter, the weather is too unpredictable. Dad likes the cabin. He likes the quiet and the trees that are crowded like cold children, arms wrapped around each other for warmth. He likes to hunt, too. Grampa had showed him to shoot when he was a ... This land was so old, no inhabitant alive could remember the year of the creation of the world. This land is much like ours. We could even live there, in fact, with no ill effects. The way it looks, though, is very different from Earth. It may have mountains similar to ours, but its turquoise waters teem with rainbow– colored fish, and that fair planet's bluish lands bristles with life. There is intelligent life, called aquila, that lives there. They are very different from us, because they are not humans. Their stature is an average of seven feet, and they have eagle's faces. The feathers on their head grow rather like a shirt that drapes to mid–chest over their lithe brown bodies. They have beautiful white wings, and a golden lion–like tail. In matters of clothing, by our standards, is very scanty, because all they wear is a leather garment that goes down well past their knees, fingerless gloves to protect their hands, and toeless boots that wrap around their backwards knees like a glove. They have excellent memories, but do not always do the right thing. They are divided into seven tribes; the Fire, Air, Snow, Wind, Water, Lightning, and Snake Tribes. • 11. Leadership Styles : Leadership Style When asking twenty different people, "What is the correct way to lead?", you will get twenty different responses. Most importantly, no response is incorrect and the variation of responses is expected because there are many ways to lead; every leader has their own leadership style. In her article, Johnson (n.d.) discusses five leadership styles: Laissez–Faire, autocratic, transactional, transformational and participative. Laissez–Faire has a French origin and it means "a policy or attitude of letting things take their own course, without interfering" ("Oxford dictionaries", 2016). When leaders take total control, such as making all decisions alone and does not ask for the input of the employees, they are using the autocratic leadership style. This style is similar to a dictatorship. Exceptionally dissimilar from Laissez–Faire and autocratic styles, leaders sometime use the "give– take" system. The transactional style lets the manager and employee agree on a goal and when the mission is completed, the leader will reward the employee for the great accomplishment. The same rule applies if the employee does not reach a set goal; they will be discipline accordingly. A morale boosting style is the participative style. Whenever a leader includes their employees in the decision making process, the employees tend to feel needed and essential. Even though the final decision is made by the leader, the employees' input and suggestions is considered and incorporated in the final ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Series B shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange, and 50% of these shares are owned by the top 25 shareholders. 40% of the shares are owned by financial institutions as part of their investment portfolios. Only 12% of the shares are owned by insiders, i.e. Shaw family and/or executives. Since these shares don't have voting options, their ownership is mainly for capital gain and dividend purposes. On the other hand, series A shares have an embedded voting option, and 78% of the shares are owned by the Shaw family within the Shaw Family Living Trust (SFLT1). Therefore, Shaw family has total control of the company's decisions. This increases the overall risk to the firm as ordinary shareholders have no say over the operations of the firm. The main implication is agency risk, as no one can exercise a final vote but the Shaw family. Company decisions could be biased towards Shaw family's interest, and not in the best interest of other shareholders. Bad signals could make investors to withdraw their investments from the company, and Shaw's market capitalization would plummet. The dual class structure and the current ownership structure increases the operating risk, and hence the required rate of return for equity. As a consequence the WACC of the firm is deemed to increase. 7.0 Market Value of Capital Structure: As of August 31st, 2015, Shaw Communications' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Either way, the space made Emma think of straightjackets and padded cells. The cold linoleum floor, however, resembled icepacks, soothing her road–beaten bare feet. The smooth surface felt like a pillow compared to the gravel and pebble–strewn street. The stark obviousness that Emma had only the clothing she wore, made Shelly's question feel like an insult to injury. Shelly looked up from her paper and waited. Emma found it not only absurd, but painful, considering everything she owned is now gone. She blurted, "I must have forgotten to grab those oranges on my way over." However, Sedaris has no desire to learn how to play guitar. His desire lies within singing jingles in the voice of Billie Holiday. Sedaris' desire to sing in the voice of Billie Holiday is probably closely related to his sexual orientation, being gay, and his father's passion for jazz music. Singing in the voice of Billie Holiday seemed to be one of the few ways Sedaris thought he could express his feminine side comfortably. Unfortunately for him, being shot down by Mancini caused him to dispose of such a dream. Sedaris' desire to sing like Billie Holiday can also be linked to his father's passion for jazz music. His father loved jazz music almost to the point of obsessive–compulsiveness, where he'd sit down and analyze each note and the timing of the jazz songs playing on his record player, and although Sedaris claims to also love jazz, it wasn't enough to convince his father. "Because it was the music we'd grown up with, I liked to think that my sisters and I had a genuine appreciation of jazz. We preferred it over the music our friends were listening to, yet nothing we did or said could convince my father of our devotion," (p. 17) writes Sedaris. Singing like Billie Holiday might have been a way for Sedaris to be closer to his father, or at least allow the two of them to bond in a way based on a common interest. Because of the controversy about homosexuals, Sedaris probably wasn't open about his sexuality with his father, thus not feeling close to him. It can be argued that jazz acted as a resistance to the Nazi and their ideals in Germany; jazz was an export to American Culture, at a time when occupied Europe was ready to accept and embrace new cultures. On the home front, World War II had an incredible effect on the American jazz scene. One of the biggest setbacks fro jazz was the increasing difficulty with travel during the war. Musicians struggled to travel around the country to perform, as the rationing of rubber and gasoline limited the mobility of many swing bands. In addition, there were fewer buses and trains available for bands, as the majority were often occupied with servicemen on War business. Between the Great Depression and World War II, America needed money, and the multimillion dollar business of ballroom dancing and big bands was targeted with an incredibly–high 30% "Cabaret Tax." This tax led to the closing of numerous clubs all around the United States, because ballrooms and clubs could no longer afford to pay big bands to come play. The tax started the economic cycle that closed many of these recreational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life After Death : Short Story Life After Death: When Hardship Confronts Forever A soft hand of a patient slithers through a field of IV's and other medical tubing until it finally reaches it's destination – my hand. With prolonged tenderness, a thumb caressed my hand, making small circles in a caring manner as an expression of human empathy. As her cracked lips pivoted skyward, she closed her eyes and returned to her placid state where she thought of her son, and how much time she would have left with him. The only thing that comforted her in this moment were the words we shared. She was a young mother with cancer, and the pain she was going through was palpable. "Do you wish to go through with this" I said. "Yes, I do. It is for the better" Saraya replied. A look of profound sadness had swept over her face. We both knew this was inevitable. Her son would live his life without a mother at his side. A cascade of warmth flowed down both our faces. Josiah could only look at his mother with a gaze of unsurmountable grief. "Why did God let you have cancer, why didn't he prevent this?" "My son, I know it is hard." Saraya paused trying to catch her breathe. "You must know that God is good, and everything he has created is good." "But you're in so much pain! I'll be all alone! Why does this have to happen! How is this even good!" Josiah screamed. "Josiah, all these moments will be lost in time like tears in rain" Saraya replied softly. "I don't have the answers that will make everything all better, but know that ... I see the term, less connected with watching movies. I suppose you could binge watch movies, but I think that the term has more connotations with television programs rather than movies. To me, I think binge watching implies that you are watching multiple episodes of some kind of series. While contemplating my reluctance, I thought, this is my temple, right? I know it well. Shouldn't I be diving right in? Nevertheless, the entire drawing was an itchy stubborn journey, one through which I discovered a complex truth: this so called 'temple' is a concept which is defined in part by isolate functions, biological rules, capabilities, and quality of growth. However, equally I found that it is regularly defined and re–defined by how it is used, utilised, communicated with, and objectified by others (in this instance others would be anything outside of the self that relates to or interacts with the body). As I plastered the butcher paper cut–out onto the canvas face with gesso, the edges began to smear and blur. Immediately, I had to consider what that meant for my body. The drawing Jeff did of my figure was inaccurate. I looked thinner in the calves and rounder at the head. Wondering what it might be like to do the whole thing again, I mused, could I ever be happy with a butcher paper drawing of myself? Probably not. I already understand what the expression "sick as chocolate frog" means, or at least I think so... we're talking about a true frog supposedly covered in chocolate, aren't we? Yes, certainly, that sounds quite unpleasant... I suppose those Americans understood what you had meant, Ken... Well... I'll try to use that expression in some time here, and I'll see what happen, haha!!! The expression that I usually use since I learnt it, is "It's not my cup of tea", it's strange but, since I use that phrase I don't get to remember which is its equivalent one here. Oh! Some days ago a cousin of mine posted a video of Smoke on the water, and he made the following comment "What relationship can there be between Bob Dylan and Deep Purple? Only ... The scientists think the place was a swamp or a flooded area of shallow depth about 100.000 years ago. Also, they found footprints of a running bird called Rheidae about 4.92 ft high, footprints of Hidrochoeridae, a sort of big mouse about 4.26 ft long; and finally, three toes from a paw that scientists suppose they could be compatible with the ones of the Macraucheniidae, that were similar the current camels. The article doesn't say what prehistoric animals the bones belong to. On May 19 at 9PM, an unknown object fell, from space, at some point into the sea, between a town called Carilo and another called Villa Gesell. The meteorite caused a great light preceded by a loud noise, as an explosion, that caused a slight trembling that alarmed to people. Some people think that what fell from the sky could be part of an old satellite or a piece of space junk that fell out of orbit, and others that it was a meteorite, but the truth is that the experts haven't said absolutely anything about it ... • 74. Five Birthday Secrets 5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor's office, it was so dark in the streets I almost tripped on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so excited because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like banners, streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY." then "JINKS." We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piñata.] it was all so fun. After the party while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when me and Hunter where about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we would open The Book of Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the box was a lot of tissue paper and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the box that held the book and brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it was that book that had cased all that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell out. We each took one, my paper said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter both have powers, yours are– Invisible, shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go back in time, super speed, super strong, teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls, and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed feeling confused, and powerful if you know what I mean. 6 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. A Short Story : A Story? "Mom?" I squealed. My mom went back to her work with the kitchen counter. I got up from my bed and peeked through my bedroom door. My suitcase had stood there, still full with two months worth of clothes. I just sat and laid on my bed for the rest of the night. On the next morning, my mom came to a stop at my door. "Knock, knock, knock." "Izzy? Are you still in your room? I need you to come out honey your Nana's on the phone." My mom had been woken up by the ring of my nana's call for me. I had got up from my bed, out the door, and to the phone. "Hello? Nana? Are you there?" I murmured into the phone. She took a while to respond, but she eventually did. "Hello sweety. So nice to hear your grown–up voice. I can't wait to have you over. It will be a journey for the both of us to explore!" "Yeah, nana I can't wait to see you. See you in New Mexico." I replied as I rolled my eyes and hung up the phone. As I had hung up the phone and walked back to my room to get dressed I thought, why couldn't my mom have finished college when she was still young? I wanted to ask my mom that question, but I won't hear the end of it. Two days pass after the phone call from nana which makes today is the day of my flight. This is going to be the worst two months of my life. "Come on Izzy hurry up and get dressed. You don't want to miss your flight." My mom hollered to get me moving. I rolled my eyes and quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed, had breakfast, and got my shoes on. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Essay Disputing the Canon Disputing the Canon I was in the best of settings when I realized that Shakespeare was indeed great. My freshman year in high school, I had English class with an esteemed teacher, Mr. Broza–hailed as the Paul D. Schreiber High School Shakespeare aficionado, founder of Schreiber's Annual Shakespeare Day, and, perhaps most heart–warming of all, a self–proclaimed Shakespeare lover whose posters of The Bard could be found as wallpaper in his small office. How lucky I thought I was. Indeed, if I wanted to appreciate Hamlet, I was in the right hands. But how misled I actually was–at least, in Walker Percy's eyes. In his essay, "The Loss of the Creature," Percy recalls a scene from The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter: ...the girl hides in the bushes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After sitting by a tree and reading the text front–to–back, perhaps then I would be able to "see" Shakespeare in Percy's sense of the word. Percy's noble task is to open our minds to the possibility that we are not the masters of what we know–that, in part, what we know and what we see, when approached passively, have a lot more to do with "preformed symbolic complex" than with ourselves (512). Percy's exploration achieves one of the main goals of all philosophy–to change the way we think about things. He changes the meaning of many concepts human beings tend to take for granted. Sight is no longer the mere act of seeing, but "a struggle," an act of understanding and appreciation (523). "Sovereignty," in relation to things, is no longer some abstract concept of "power," but an ability to interpret for oneself (517). Education–or perhaps more specifically, its dynamic–is reshaped, for it is no longer a passive act (i.e. "being taught to") but an action that relies much more upon the student, who "may have the greatest difficulty in salvaging the creature itself from the educational package in which it is presented" (519). These concept–alterations are thus meant to alter our reality; they aim to help us rediscover in art what he calls in his opening paragraph an island, "Formosa." This previously untouched island is beautiful to its discoverer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
