Physical Fitness
Physical Fitness is used in two close meanings: general fitness (a state of health and
well-being) and specific fitness (a task-oriented definition based on the ability to perform
specific aspects of sports or occupations). Physical fitness is one of the most important
things in my life because your body is your number one mechanism that you use to
experience the world. Not only does your physical fitness dictate every movement you make
as you explore the world, but your physical fitness is also the first thing that people will see
about you that reflects yourself.
The body's physique, size, and shape indicates the lifestyle of a person. Take for
example a warrior of a villiage. The warrior of the villiage probably forages food for his family,
travels long distances, hunts and gathers, trains to fight, etc. The activities that he
participates in dictate his body composition, which in this case would probably be rather
muscular with a lower body fat percentage.
Using that logic, somebody with a body type that has a higher body fat percentage
would indicate that they consume more energy than their energy output. Thus, the human
body is the first advertisement of how you live your life as a person.
For me, the biggest benefit of physical fitness is the ability to use my body in
competitive sports. Although I am at the point in my life where any competition I'll participate
in will be recreational, I still strive to be competitive with others. There's no better feeling in
the world than pushing your body to it's limit, recovering, then attempting to do it better than
before.
