Children At A Local Fitness Center
For my observations, I interviewed Penny who teaches gymnastics to children at a local fitness
center. She teaches classes every Friday and Saturday to children ranging from 2–14 years old. I
observed her multiple times and recorded 6 hours of observations. After talking to Penny Lane, I
found out she did gymnastics as a child at her local fitness center. She was a student for there for
about 8 years, while growing up. Then while she was in high school she was asked to teach for
students at her fitness center. She enjoyed it so much that when she moved up to Bellingham, she
asked the fitness center in town if she could teach some lessons. At the time, no one was teaching
gymnastics and the fitness center said that she could teach. She was able to create her own lesson
plans and has been working at this location for 2 years. This is how she was able to get involved
with this type of work. She did mention a few struggles with the job such as the fitness center does
not have a lot of funding and that sometimes hinders the lessons and she explained that older
students tend to drop out and go somewhere else. When I asked her how she felt about her work she
said that it was easy and fun. She really enjoys working with kids and feels comfortable teaching
gymnastics. She wants to keep this job throughout her schooling because she wants to be an
elementary school teacher once she graduates from college. She doesn't make very much money so,

My college students were between the ages of 20 and 25. The class had prior knowledge of what
occurs in a Health & Physical Education classroom and some had even played a sport before.
Moreover, my students had a high maturity level and knew to wear appropriate athletic wear. The
prerequisites for this class was balance, coordination, leg strength, physical abilities, and
developmental readiness. They were learning to play a variety of sports such as pickle ball, soccer,
volleyball, and shot put.
My students' everyday experiences consisted of some form of physical activity being that they were
majoring in Health & Physical Education. All of my students were born in America and spoke
English. Majority were either Christians or Catholics, however, religious was never discussed in the
classroom setting. Likewise, majority if not all had a love for the games of football, basketball and
badminton. The sports football and basketball is a part of their culture based on their geographical
location.
In order to plan my lessons, I used resources like PE Central, Openphysed.org, Teaching Physical

template. If I were to plan a curricular unit, it would be essential for the students to either have an

Different Forms Of Co Teaching
Lauren Dursky and I decided that we would implement different forms of co–teaching for different
subjects. It did not seem efficient to use the same method for each subject, so we decided to vary the
instruction. For math, we decided to use station teaching. This allows students to discover a true
understanding of each concept through different activities. This style of co–teaching also allows
each teacher to incorporate his or her own unique perspective into the classroom. This style could be
challenging for math because it requires extra planning and you have to make sure both teachers are
teaching similar methods at the same time so movement from one station to the next is smooth. We
then decided to use the teaming method for history. The teaming method allows both teachers to
present their own views to the class and bounce ideas off of each other (The Power of 2, 2005).
Instead of using textbooks to teach history, we decided to take a concept and explore its significance
through events and debates. We would start off by each presenting a different point of view on a
single event and have students divide into two groups based on their initial thoughts. Each teacher
would then lead their portion of the class through research and constructing a debate. After a couple
days spent learning about the situation and preparing an argument, the two halves of the class would

Change is a part of life and I view myself as a life–long learner. I have frequently been called on to

I Designed My Lesson Plan
a.) I designed my lesson plan to be used in first and second grade. This lesson plan was designed to
be a cross curriculum lesson about spiders that incorporates the following subject areas: Science,

In contrast, the type of inquire based approach that is taught in some of the SKE lessons at
University of Sussex allows the student to understand why a method works and encourage a
comprehension of the mechanics behind the steps taken to solve a problem. Personally, I have
noticed that as I gain confidence in my mathematical ability, these sessions become more enjoyable.
Still, to achieve confidence and be able to follow these lessons, I need to familiarize myself with a

There are various areas within the teaching role that are important in order to aid children through
their development. There are three key principles; Planning, Teaching and Assessment (Education
Scotland, 2011).
Throughout this essay I will focus on how these principles affiliate children's development and their

Ignatius praised the Ephesians for staying strong in their faith when false teachers came to cripple
their beliefs. "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inward they are
ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits" (New International Version, Matthew 7:15). It
is difficult when a convincing person attempts to change your hopes and beliefs because they can be
so sly and can twist thoughts. However, sticking to what is true, holy, and pleasing to God is the
only way to dodge the destruction of the Christian mind. False prophets and teachers have no place
in the lives' of Christians and should not be able to sway strong beliefs and claims. The Church
today is victim to fictitious instruction and must remain faithful to what they know is true in God the
Father.
Ignatius' teachings to the Ephesians will ultimately benefit the Church if they are lived out everyday.
He instructed them to live as one in Christ Jesus, to respect the authority over them, and to stray
from false prophets who seek to corrupt their minds. If Christians today began to pursue these ideas,
the world as a whole would benefit greatly because Christ would shine so brightly in and through
them. Ignatius' teachings not only left an impact on the Ephesians, but continue to impact the
Church as they are applied to Christians' everyday

I Have Learned Through Teaching
One of the many things that I have learned through teaching young people is that time goes by a lot
faster. In reflecting from my field teaching lessons, I realized that there were many things that I was
pleased with, but I also realized that there were many things I know I need to work on. Watching a
video of you teach a class is the absolute best way to self–evaluate yourself. We are most critical of

When I began the lesson plan on verbals I had students write freely about a significant incident in
their lives in which you were taught a meaningful lesson. Students had complete freedom to write
on a topic that had happened to them, or someone they knew. When students are given the
opportunity to write about their lives, that is when we empower students with their own words. The
students were able to choose what incident they wanted to write about from their lived experiences.
After my minilesson on verbals I wanted students to incorporate these into their own writing to add
action and precise details about their significant incident. During this lesson plan I wanted to keep in
mind the one ELL student at field placement. I had gotten to know her very well through
interviewing her, and knew from previous conversations that she really struggled to understand
grammar. When students were working individually on their writing assignment, I made sure to visit
this one student in particular to be sure that she understood the concept fully. This student works
very hard, and I know she is doing twice the amount of work as every other student due to the
language barrier. Through giving this student extra time to process the new information I was able to
then check for understanding when students were working independently. This

1) Communication is vital in keeping a marriage and collaboration together. There has to be clear
communication on both parties. Thoughts and ideas should be address. In doing this there needs to
be face–to–face interaction. Both parties need to make good eye contact, face their partner and
discuss their ideas or problems they are having. Just like in a good marriage communicate what are
the responsibilities of each person.
2) Listen is another component of how marriage and collaboration go together. Everyone in the
marriage and team needs to active listen to each other. This builds trust and shows your partner that
you care and are interested in what they have to say. Some great strategies for active listening are to
use reflection statements for instance; "paraphrase what the speaker said and responding to
underlying feelings" (Tindall, 2000).
3) Co–teaching and a marriage have to display the same philosophy and values for any relationship
to work. It is a give and take situation. There should be a great deal of respect for each other. Both
people view each other as equal with the same attitude and expectations.
4) Finally co–teaching and a marriage shared the load, have fun, and problem solve together. When
you have another person helping you out with your work that needs to be done whether it is
housework or assignments for your job you have more time for

The teacher may acquire mastery of the contents but lack skills in the appropriate methods. This
may affect the students understanding of the subjects. There are many approaches to teaching of
mathematics. These include: * Problem solving * Discovery Approach * Expository * Laboratory *
Questioning skills * Individualization group work * Demonstration, etc. (Johnson & Rising,

All these methods are good but no teaching method could be regarded as superior to the other. In

Using Peer Tutoring And Peer Assistance
Introduction
After taking the survey, I now realize I wish I was doing more differentiated instruction in my
classroom. I chose a lot of "somewhat agrees" and that means that I sometimes implement
differentiation but not always. Reading through all of the questions really had my thinking on how I
use them in my classroom. For example: one of the questions I had trouble with was: I make
frequent use of peer tutoring and peer assistance in my classroom. I do not do any of that in my
music classroom. I could try and have students help me hand out instruments or papers when we use

I will sometimes jot down by their name on the seating chart who needs help with what. Doing more
formal assessments is a must in my classroom. One example of a formal assessment that I did this
past year was teaching the second graders the song "Rocky Mountain." Once the song was
memorized the students would come to the front of the room and sing "Rocky Mountain" for
everyone to hear and I would grade them on their singing ability; if all words were memorized, sang
each note on the correct pitch and if they sang in the correct key throughout. I found this to be very
helpful with their personalities and interests because I found out who really liked singing and who
did not really enjoy it. I also found out who was shy and who was more outgoing. This helped me
prepare some of lessons for the next few times and I knew who I could call on to sing for everyone.
Another strength that I have is helping students set individual learning goals. I recently helped a
student who usually has a hard time concentrating and staying on task create a GPAR (Goal–Plan,
Action and Result), to help him get through his classes more focused. It worked very well and the
student got a great result and therefore I know I will be doing this more next year to help a lot more
students become successful.
