TYPE OF TEXT TEXT TYPES
1.
2. A narrative text entertains, instructs or
informs readers by telling a story. It is a text
use to entertain, to gain, and to hold reader’s
interest in the story. It is used to educate and
enlighten writer’s reflection on their
experiences. It can be imaginary, factual, or
combination of both. This has many types
and may include myths, fables, fiction,
fairytales, romances, etc.
3. A descriptive text is a type of text which
explains a colorful expression of things and
usually describes its characteristics and why
things are special. This aims to show rather
than tell the reader what
something/someone is more like.Writing this
kind of text also helps a writer to develop an
aspect of their work.
4. It was July 21, 1969, and Neil Armstrong awoke
with a start. It was the day he would become the
first human being to ever walk on the moon. The
journey had begun several days earlier, when on
July 16th, the Apollo 11 launched from Earth
headed into outer space. On board with Neil
Armstrong were Michael Collins and BuzzAldrin.
The crew landed on the moon in the Sea of
Tranquility a day before the actual walk. Upon
Neil’s first step onto the moon’s surface, he
declared, “That’s one small step for man, one
giant leap for mankind.” It sure was!
5. Sunset is the time of day when our sky meets
the outer space solar winds. There are blue, pink,
and purple swirls, spinning and twisting, like
clouds of balloons caught in a blender. The sun
moves slowly to hide behind the line of horizon,
while the moon races to take its place in
prominence atop the night sky. People slow to a
crawl, entranced, fully forgetting the deeds that
still must be done. There is a coolness, a
calmness, when the sun does set.
6. Last week we installed a kitty door so that our cat could come and
go as she pleases. Unfortunately, we ran into a problem. Our
cat was afraid to use the kitty door. We tried pushing her
through, and that caused her to be even more afraid. The kitty
door was dark, and she couldn’t see what was on the other side.
The first step we took in solving this problem was taping the
kitty door open. After a couple of days, she was confidently
coming and going through the open door. However, when we
removed the tape and closed the door, once again, she would
not go through. They say you catch more bees with honey, so
we decided to use food as bait.We would sit next to the kitty
door with a can of wet food and click the top of the can. When
kitty came through the closed door, we would open the can and
feed her. It took five days of doing this to make her unafraid of
using the kitty door. Now we have just one last problem; our
kitty controls our lives!
7. Last year was the first time I had ever been the new
kid at school. For the first four days, I was completely
alone. I don’t think I even spoke to a single person.
Finally, at lunch on the fifth day, KarenWatson walked
past her usual table and sat down right next to me.
Even though I was new, I had already figured out who
KarenWatson was. She was popular. Pretty soon, all
of Karen’s friends were sitting there right next to me. I
never became great friends with Karen, but after
lunch that day, it seemed like all sorts of people were
happy to be my friend. You cannot convince me that
Karen did not know what she was doing. I have a great
respect for her, and I learned a great deal about what
it means to be a true leader.
8. The old man was stooped and
bent, his back making the shape
of a C and his head bent so far
forward that his beard would
nearly have touched his knobby
knees had he been just a bit
taller.
9. “It was a cold grey day in late November.
The weather had changed overnight,
when a backing wind brought a granite
sky and a mizzling rain with it, and
although it was now only a little after
two o'clock in the afternoon the pallor of
a winter evening seemed to have closed
upon the hills, cloaking them in mist.”
10. "The idiosyncrasy of this town is smoke. It
rolls sullenly in slow folds from the great
chimneys of the iron-foundries, and settles
down in black, slimy pools on the muddy
streets. Smoke on the wharves, smoke on the
dingy boats, on the yellow river--clinging in a
coating of greasy soot to the house-front, the
two faded poplars, the faces of the passers-
by.”
11. Why is it important to
study about text
types?
12. What are the two text
types we have tackled
yesterday?
14. An instructional text is a step
by step guide explaining how
to do or make something
through a process of
sequenced steps
to achieve a successful
outcome.
15. An argumentative essay/text uses
evidence and facts to prove whether
or not a thesis is true. It presents two
sides of a single issue, and covers the
most important arguments for and
against. People sometimes confuse
the argumentative essay and the
persuasive essay.
16. An expository text provide facts in a way
that is educational and purposeful.The
text is fact-based with the purpose of
exposing the truth through a reliable
source.True and deliberate expository
text will focus on educating its reader.
Other descriptors of exposition are clear,
concise, and organized writing.
Expository text gets to the point quickly
and efficiently.
17. INSTRUCTIONALTEXT
Making a sandcastle is a favorite project of beach-goers
of all ages. Begin by digging up a large amount of
sand (enough to fill at least six pails) and arranging it
in a pile. Then, scoop the sand into your pail, patting it
down and leveling it off at the rim as you do.
You can now construct the towers of your castle by
placing one pailful of sand after another face down on
the area of the beach that you have staked out for
yourself. Make four towers, placing each mound
twelve inches apart in a square. This done, you are
ready to build the walls that connect the towers.
18. The gardens of Lowfield Hall are overgrown now and weeds
push their way up through the gravel of the drive. One of
the drawing-room windows, broken by a village boy, has
been boarded up, and wisteria, killed by summer drought,
hangs above the front door like an old dried net ...There
are six bedrooms in Lowfield Hall, a drawing room, a
dining room, a morning room, three bathrooms, a kitchen,
and what are known as usual offices. In this case, the usual
offices were the back kitchen and the gun room. On that
April morning the house wasn’t exactly dirty, but it wasn’t
clean either. There was a bluish film on all the thirty-three
windows, and the film was decorated with fingerprints ...
From Ruth Rendell, A Judgement in Stone .
19. Advances in science and technology have made
the use of "green" energy possible. In places
where climate conditions permit, people are
able to use solar energy or wind energy for
power. Solar energy is the use of sunlight for
energy and power. Humans are able to harness
the energy of the sun by installing solar panels
on their homes or businesses. Humans have also
found ways to harness the power of the wind by
using wind turbines to capture wind energy.
Both of these forms of "green" energy are being
used more and more.
