Relationship Between God And Israel
TB 133–140 The author dives into chapter six by addressing the prophetic themes, covenant,
judgment and redemption. According to the author all the prophets have a special relationship
between God and Israel. They all share a common theme as well. Themes include announcement of
judgment on Israel, punishment, announcement of restoration after a rebellion and comparisons of
Israel. The author also points out what Israel is the main focus throughout the old testament. God
choose Israel and entered into a covenant so his expectations are high compared to other nations
living at that time. Which is why intense images being express the relationship between God and
Israel. Such images include parent–child, husband–wife, church–bride, shepherd–flock, owner–
vineyard and potter–clay. When Israel rebels against God Israel is compared to a prostitute or camel.
However, even when Israel is beyond redemption, the chosen prophets beg for repentance from the
nation of Israel. More common is the image of people turning away from God even when presented
salvation. The author presents the prophetic books in canonical order. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and
the Scroll of the Twelve are presented to the reader providing an introduction of each book.
According to the author the book of Isaiah is a view into the school of prophecy descending from
the great eighth–century. Additionally, evidence has surfaced confirming Isaiah did not write the
entire book himself but rather is a complied

What Happened To Jacob
However, in the case of James, it is unsure why it became James, rather than Jacob. One may
conjecture that James was already a common name in England as was the King who commissioned
the translation, but it is still perplexing as to why Jacob was deliberately changed to James. Was
Jacob too Jewish for them or was there an attempt at Christianize him or make him appear as a
Gentile? Why are other modern translations unwilling to change it to Jacob or even Yaakov? Wine
or grape juice Next, let us consider the cases involving words which do not exist in English. There
are several Hebrew words that are translated into one English word "wine." The most common word
in Hebrew for wine is ‫ן‬‫ִי‬‫ָ֫י‬ (yayin). It is used in verses such as Genesis 9:21, "And he drank of the
wine (yayin), and was drunken." In this case, yayin is definitely alcoholic which caused Noah to be
inebriated. The same term is also used in Isaiah 22:13, "And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen,
and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine (yayin): let us eat and drink; for to morrow we
shall die." However, in the same book of Isaiah, in chapter 24, verse 7, Isaiah the prophet uses the
term ‫ירֹוׁש‬ ‫ִּת‬ (tirosh): "The new wine (tirosh) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isaac pronounces his blessings to him in verse 28, "Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven,
and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn (dagan) and wine (tirosh)." By the way, dagan
literally means grain. The phrase "the fatness of the earth," Sarna (1991) states that this has to do
with the finest fruits of the soil, and dagan and tirosh are two most important examples of the finest
products of the soil (p.193). The idea here is that Esau will never run out of grain, which is for bread
and the other being the produce overflowing with nectar due to well–nourished trees on fertile soil,

Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History Essay
Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History
Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History text are complementary because it talks about the
relationship of the people of Israel and God, Kingship and religion and the warn them about the
punishment that accompanies. Though the message is the same the mode each took to deliver a God
message is different.
The primary goal of the Deuteronomistic History is the perception of Kingship and religion, the
word Deuteronomistic History was first formulated by Martin Noth in 1943. It refers to those
historical writings (also known as former prophets), the books consist of Joshua, the judges, Samuel,
and kings (Collins 2004:183). The book of king relates the history of Hebrew united and ... Show

I Kings 11: 9–11 the lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the
Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded him concerning this
matter, that he should not follow other gods, but he did not observe what the Lord commanded.
Therefore the lord said to Solomon, since this has been your mind and you have not kept my
covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and
give it to your servant. The Deuteronomistic History talks about the kingship of David, Saul and
Solomon but portrays the monarchy as corrupt, improper and always bringing calamity to the
people. Hosea uses his marriage to a prostitute as a means of preaching to the people of Northern
Israel. God commanded Hosea to marry a prostitute named Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, his
Israel past figured prominently in Hosea's prophecies to Israel. Mercy and judgment are also
important themes in Hosea's message. He was a prophet of eventual hope and immediate doom,
given the understanding the covenant of blessing and curses as outline in the Tora. His message
stems from the covenant violation motif as reflected in the lawsuit YHWH has brought against Israel
(Hill and Walton 2009:582–587). God controversy with Israel was rooted in conflicting religious
ideologies of Canaanite Baalism and Hebrew Yahwism (Hos. 4:4) (Hill and Walton 2009:589). For

Prophets And The Old Testament
The last seventeen books of the Old Testament are books of prophecy. Five of these books are
known as the major prophets while the other twelve books are known as the minor prophets. The
prophets in the Old Testament are very important. The prophets spoke for God and were called by
the Lord to do five specific things (Hindson & Yates, 2012 p. 287). They were to tell the people to
turn back to the Lord, remind people to conform to the Law, they were also to rebuild the nation and
create a spiritual revival in the people as well as a regeneration in spiritual birth (Hindson, 2010, p.
123–124). Prophets were also given a very unique talent that they used for God. "One of the most
unique features of the true Old Testament prophets was their ability to predict" (Hindson & Yates, p.
289). "Biblical prophets speak to future events as though they had already occurred" (Hindson &
Yates, p. 289). Though prophets are known for their ability to foresee the future, they also address
issues that the Israelites were facing. The prophets spoke on many issues such as idolatry, social
injustice, and religious ritualism. Frederick E. Greenspahn addressed the prophets input on idolatry.
"Israelite prophets seem particularly concerned with this problem: 'their land is full of idols... idols
of silver and gold which they made in order to prostrate [to them],' says Isaiah" (Greenspahn, 2004).
Isaiah was not the only prophet who ran into the problem of idolatry, "Hosea describes the Northern

The Political And Political Characters Of Israel In The...
God, when are you going to get us out of here? This was the cry of the Israelites when they were in
captivity. Before the book of Ezra, Israel was disobedient to God. As a result, God punishes them by
putting them under the captivity of another nation. During the captivity of the Israelites, God was
orchestrating a plan of restoring for His people and this plan a student can find His plan is in the
book of Ezra. When studying the book of Ezra, God's faithfulness floods over the book! Students
need to identify the political and spiritual background of Israel and key characters to understand the
book of Ezra.
The political background of Israel in the pre–exilic era was disastrous. In Israel, there was not a king
who followed God's law, but in Judea there were some kings like Hezekiah and Josiah who followed
God (2 Kings 18:3, 2 Kings 22:2). Thus, when kings do not obey God, they tend to have a temporal
perspective on their ruling. This temporal perspective lends to a lack of prudence. For a nation to run
effectively, the king needs to make sure the national defense is secure and the nation's attitude is
healthy. However, the kings of Israel did not take care of their nation. King Hosea is an example of a
king who did not take care of his country (2 Kings 17:1–6). King Hosea reigned for nine years in
Israel, which was the twelfth year of Ahaz in Judea (2 Kings 17:1–2). During king Hosea's reign, he
become allies with the Assyrian empire, but he did not follow through with his tributes (2 Kings
17:3–4). Thus, the actions of king Hosea caused the kingdom of Israel to fall to the Assyrians (2
Kings 17:5–6).
The spiritual background of Israel in pre–exilic era, like the political, was not good. Through the
leadership of the bad kings and the influences of other nations, Israel did not have a pure
relationship with God. Some of the things that Israel did were worshipping other gods, like Baal and
Asherah, and creating altars for other gods (2 Kings 17:7). Therefore, God sent prophets like
Jeremiah and Isaiah to warn the Israelites of their disobedience. However, the warnings from the
prophets did not work because the Israelites' hearts were hard to the warnings of God (2 Kings
17:18–20). As a result, God sent

Prophets
To many Christians the Prophets are seen as being predictors of the Messiah, but it can be argued
that one can take any tidbit of information from a source (not just the bible) and use it, whether
within context or out of context, to support one's argument. In my opinion, as far as the prophets are
concerned, just because the prophets seem to predict the coming of the Messiah because of the
parallels that have been drawn between the books of the prophets and the New Testament does not
necessarily mean that they were able to predict the future–it means that the New Testament authors
such as Matthew had either heard or could refer back to the writings of the Old Testament prophets
such as Isaiah, Micah, and Hosea. The problem is not that the ... Show more content on

For example, Hosea names two of his children Lo–ruhmah and Lo–ammi. As Borg points out, these
are Hebrew phrases that mean "not pitied" and "not my people". Borg also points out that the names
represent a threat because the days are coming when Israel will be "not pitied" and "not my (God's)
people". Chapter two of Hosea describes a divorce which seems to represent the end of the covenant
between God and the Northern Kingdom – a symbolic act where by the divorce of Hosea from
Gamer for infidelity represents God's rejection of the Northern Kingdom. In typical fashion, though,
Hosea ends this prophecy with the declaration that God will one day renew the covenant and will
take back Israel. Another example of the allegory in Hosea is in chapter three when Hosea seeks out
Gomer again. Either she sold herself into slavery because of debt or she is with someone who
demands money in order to give her up because Hosea has to buy her back. Even after he takes her
name though he refrains from having sex with her for a while to symbolize the fact that Israel will
be without a King for many years but that God will take Israel back even at a cost to him. Now back
to the theme of social justice and the book of Amos...as Borg points our in his chapter on "Reading
the prophets again", and so it can be found in the bible, Amos speaks out against the wealthy for
their exploitation of the poor. As Borg puts it, "he paints vivid and compelling pictures of

I certify that I am the author of this work and that any assistance I received in its preparation is fully
acknowledged.
PART I
The book Hosea was written between 790 and 710 BC by the prophet Hosea.
The story is about the relationship between Hosea and his wife, Gomer, and how their lives parallel
that of the northern kingdom of Israel. There are several themes in the book of Hosea and I will
discuss what I think to be the main one, " there is absolutely nothing we can do which will separate
us from God's love and compassion". While the northern kingdom prospers monetarily its morals
and spiritual condition is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The LORD tells Hosea to love his wife again so he buys her back from a slave market and tells her
she must live with and be faithful to him. The LORD is extremely distressed by Israel's lack of love
and acknowledgment of His existence. He describes how they have reverted to lying, cheating ,
stealing, murder, etc. and further fail to follow his word. The priests during this time are not to be let
off lightly. God tells how the priests have not spread His message, but rather they've fed off the
Israelites sins. God tells how he's going to punish the people of Israel, for their sins, and the priests,
for their lack of concern. He closes by saying he will go to his place and not recognize the peoples
of Israel until they earnestly seek him out.
In chapter 11 God capsulizes Israel's sins and his judgment against the people. He describes how he
chose the Israelites as His people and how he delivered them from slavery in Egypt. During this
dissertation he has a change of heart and decides he will not destroy the nation Israel even if they
turn from Him. He decides he will force Israel to repent by less destructive means.
In chapter 12 Hosea preaches the Lord's message to the Israelites. He starts by describing Israel's
sins against God and how the

Christ's Love for the Church
Sometimes following God is easy, but not the case of Hosea and Gomer in their not–so–fairytale
romance, we see that following God's plan for our life works out in the end. The story of Hosea and
Gomer was beautiful and lovely but also quirky. This story is located in the book of Hosea in the
Old Testament of the Bible.
If your spouse were to cheat on you with multiple partners would you stay with them? Most people
would say no and that they would leave, but is this the case with Hosea and Gomer? "For God so
loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but
have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV). Some consider John 3:16 as the "theme verse" for the entire
Bible. (What Does John 3:16 Mean? 1). This tells us that God loves us unconditionally and knows
that we sin, but he still loves us.
HOSEAAND GOMER
Hosea is responsible and successful. In this book, Hosea was an obedient and faithful prophet of
God, and he was responsible and followed all of the orders that were presented to him. With every
order given to him, he did not fail.
Gomer is irresponsible and unclean. Gomer was a woman that was very unclean and irresponsible.
She was with many men and was not looking for love.
Gomer is content with the life she lives. Gomer was always perfectly content with her life style and
never thought about changing it.

Essay on Summary of The Book of Hosea
In this book, there is an ongoing story of adultery, fornication, and betrayal between God and Israel
portrayed through the relationship between the prophet Hosea, and his wife Gomer. There are a few
different views on the actual relationship between Hosea and Gomer, the first of which is that
Gomer was already a harlot when Hosea took her as his wife. This one I would think is the most
widely accepted, simply because it's the literal description of the book, and people tend to lean
towards literal definitions more frequently than not, just look at how people of the world have torn
apart the book of Revelation! The second view is that Gomer was a harlot, but was only adulterous
after getting married. Those who believe this say that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gomer cheated on the prophet many times just as the nation of Israel cheated on their God with
other insignificant gods. Hosea provided for his wife the best way he could, and treated her the best
way he could, and received nothing but betrayal on her part. God, the same way, did nothing but
provide for His people, His wife. He cared for them in every way He could, and they still betrayed
Him at every turn. Hosea is a book telling of the judgment that is to come against them as a nation,
and what is required of them to come back to God. At the point of writing this book, it is already too
late, and the nation can do nothing to stay the wrath of God against them. God did everything He
could for them, even as it is said in 13:11, God gave them a king in His anger, going against what
He wanted for them, just to make them happy. In the end however, we see that God took their king
away in His wrath. The nation as a whole is to be captured, and they will no longer have a king like
they had before. Their glory will be taken away because of their sinfulness and rebellion towards
God. This is one of the longer minor prophets, having 14 chapters, most of which are dealing strictly
with the ungodliness of Israel as a nation, but the final chapter seems to me that Israel did change
their ways and repent to some extent. We do see that God will forgive them, but that does not mean
that the consequences for their

Misinterpretation Of Jonah: The Book Of Jonah
The book of Jonah has been a staple in Sunday school classes for many years. It has also been
subject to misinterpretation for many years as there is a much deeper meaning within the book that
has enlightened audience that Jonah was originally written for. However, this remains one of the
best books in that it contains a miracle that seems impossible which directly relates to people
because it is a captivating story in which a man survives in the belly of a giant fish. Many have
translated the word fish for a whale as that is the only fish that comes to mind that would have the
capacity to hold a human. Let us talk about the facts, history, characteristics and some background
that makes up the beloved book.
A prophet named Jonah, the son of Amittai, is mentioned in (New International Version, 2 Kings
14.25). This prophet was from Gath Hepher in Galilee and presumably was the same prophet named
in (Jonah 1.1). The prophet would have prophesied in the reign of King Jeroboam II in 793–753
B.C. (Bible Gateway).
In spite of the fact that the book does not distinguish its writer, tradition has credited it to the
prophet himself. Jonah child of Amittai; (Jonah 1.1), from Gath Hepher; (2 Kings 14.25); in Zebulun

An Interpretation Of The Book Of Proverbs : Selfishness...
Characterizing his book, Toward an Interpretation of the Book of Proverbs: Selfishness and
Secularity Reconsidered, as standing in line with canonical interpretation, Zoltán S. Schwáb takes
careful heed to the possibilities of theological reflections of the Book of Proverbs in resonance with
its canonical context and the church tradition. As a consequence of his focus on theological, constant
self–reflection, he leaves behind the historical quests to find out original settings/meanings,
redactional layers, or compositional development of the book. His efforts is attuned to understand
the text rather than to know. He, in this way, contributes to constructing a theology of Proverbs. In
this book, Schwáb delves into two major topics that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Thomas Aquinas' moral theology, "self–preservation is the most basic human end
(97)" and this is not something to be condemned. "This principle is subordinated to the higher ends
like living in community and knowing God (95)." Virtues guide one to comprehend the right
hierarchy of ends. Among virtues of Thomas' thinking, Schwáb understands, the virtue of prudence
is parallel to the practical admonition of Proverbs. And this prudence "is the right sort of (practical)
self–love, the self–love which is beneficial for the individual, the human community, and also for
the relationship of humans with God." "The natural inclination for Self–preservation and the priority
of self–love does not mean selfishness (98)" in Thomistic moral theology. Schwáb's systematic
analysis on Deuteronomy presents that the motive clauses in Deuteronomy are about effectiveness
and long life that are not indifferent from Proverbs' self–interest. Reading Proverbs 1–9 as the
context of Proverbs' sentence–literature levels out the seeming non–Yahwistic characters of
Proverbs. These results allow Schwáb to view that Proverbs is no more self–interested than the rest
of the Bible. He goes on to say that the honor as a result of wise life and the openness of better–than
sayings allude to Proverbs' search for non–material gains, the search that is similarly visible in
Thomistic system. Winding up Part III, Schwáb

What was so compelling about the Christian God that helped the Israelites hold onto their beliefs
after being exiled? This question came to me as I read Hanneken. He states, "They could have given
up and assimilated to the culture... Instead, they developed the idea that their God had not been
defeated, but planned the exile for their own long–term good, and remained with them." This was a
clear departure in thought at the time and begs the question why? Understanding why the Israelites
held onto God during their exile will help many see that this God is unique. I think that many topics
of this course can shed light on the exceptional nature of God and help explain the continuing power
of this deity as opposed to others.

God does strange things at times, things we don't always understand, things we can't categorize,
things that don't fit into what we think we know of him. And this is one of those strange things.
Perhaps Hosea then began to understand a little bit of what God was doing. He knew it was
customary in Israel to teach by symbols –– God often used this method of instructing his people ––
and that names were very important. God often used the meanings of names to teach Israel certain
truths just as we shall see in the case of Isaiah later on. Now God was planning to use this prophet
and his family as an example for his people.
Hosea obeyed the will of God, went to court Gomer, and they were married. At first it was heaven
on earth. Hosea loved this girl. You can't read this prophecy without seeing that. They must have
been wonderfully happy together, and then they had their first child. It was a boy, as God had said.
Bear in mind that it was the result of adultery on Gomer's part. Hosea's heart was filled to bursting,
and he went to God for the name of this boy. "What should we name the boy?" To his surprise, God
picked the name Jezreel. Now Jezreel means "cast–away" and was a name of shame in Israel. He
represented the hypocrisy and adultery of Israel, and he was a foreshadowing of what was to come

Book Of Hosea Essay
The Book of Hosea is a story of "God's redeeming love and forgiveness." In this story of the
Yahwist prophet Hosea, the Lord Yahweh is speaking through Hosea. The sexual script of this story
follows a distinct pattern of guilt, punishment, then forgiveness and acceptance. The guilt of Gomer
as a "harlot" is justified by presenting the subjectivity of females to the judgements of authoritative
male figures. Regardless of the morality or righteousness of Gomer's act, she is belittled and shamed
for doing having sex with several men. The punishment follows as Gomer is stripped of her clothes
and shamed in front of everyone. Yahweh's punishment even goes as far as a "miscarrying womb
and dry breasts," removing from women the power of life and procreation. This idea of punishment
resonates again with the male figure having total and complete control over the female in all aspects
of her daily engagements. Lastly we have forgiveness and acceptance. Hosea takes Gomer as his
wife, ignoring all that she has committed in the sight of Yahweh.
Hosea choosing Gomer as his wife considers the "sins" which she has committed. Hosea chooses
Gomer because he forgives her for her sins. In this script, Hosea is the one validating and criticizing

dangerous, while men are shown as good and kind individuals. This leads to the purpose of the
union being that women are lost and looking for a male to accept them. This acceptance comes with
the benefit of Hosea offering Gomer safety from all that is "evil" (harlotry), and again asserting his
role as the dominant force in the union as he is the one that gives Gomer purpose and

The Old Testament
With the completion of the Old Testament put a stop on the preaching and revelation of the prophets.
Prophets were responsible for enlightening the Jews about the realities of life and resolved various
issues that they had. The Jews were desperate to know the truth, and the teachings of the God and
hence prophets aided these longings of theirs. Religious ritualism, social injustice, and idolatry were
the three areas in which the prophets emphasized in their preaching and filled the hearts and minds
of their believers with it. Prophets were enlightened and blessed beings that had much knowledge
about the religious matters and their teachings are of still very significant and valid.
The Bible instructs numerous cases of the Social Injustice, Idolatry, and Ritualism. God 's picked
prophets, for example, Hosea, Micah, Jonah, Ezekiel, and Isaiah, give occasions of these themes.
Through these picked prophets a superior comprehension of Gods expectations and implications can

Gomer And Hosea
The book of Hosea has to be one of the oddest books of the entire Bible to some. Who would have
ever thought that God would have asked his obedient and faithful prophet Hosea to go and take a
prostitute to be his wife? There is a common knowledge that God can use anything for His glory.
Therefore, as odd as Hosea and Gomer's story is, it is not exempt from glorifying God. God's love is
unfailing and unconditional for all of humanity and that was proven in and through the love story of
Hosea and Gomer. In this paper, I will cover God's peculiar instructions for Hosea, Hosea and
Gomer's story, Hosea's heartbreak, the state of Israel during this time, and God's unfailing love for
Israel.
God's Peculiar Instructions for Hosea In Hosea 1:2, "God gives Hosea instructions to go out and
marry an adulterous wife and have children of unfaithfulness. God told Hosea to do this because
Israel is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord." In the next verse, Hosea married
Gomer, and Gomer had three children back to back and God told Hosea to name them names that
represented His broken relationship with Israel (Hosea 1:4–8).

says in Hosea 14:4: "I will heal their backsliding. I will love them freely." Gomer did not deserve

The Minor Prophets: The Book Of Hosea
Hosea
The book of Hosea was written by one of the Minor prophets, Hosea, who was one of the first
prophets to write his own prophecy. In the book, Hosea mentions the reigns of four kings; Uzziah,
Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. This tells us that this book was written between 792 B.C and 686 B.C.
Hosea wrote a prophetic message directed to Isreal as a warning about the breaking of their
covenant with God. Isreal was in the midst of self destruction through sin and false idolatry; because
of this, Israel was being warned about the judgement that would come if their ways were not
corrected. God instructs Hosea to marry Gomer who is a harlot whom Hosea embraces with open

of this, he won favor in the eyes of Saul. When the women of Israel began to praise David for his
efforts in war, Saul began to resent David and forced him into hiding. After Saul's death, David took
his given place as kin where he ruled until his death in 970 B.C. During his reign, a married woman
by the name of Bathsheba caught his eye and David gave into sin. However, once a prophet exposed
David for his sin, he went to the Lord with a sincere heart and repented. During the time of his
repentance, David wrote a song in Psalms as a prayer for forgiveness and this song was one of the
many he wrote in Psalms with various subjects. Out of his sin, he and Bathsheba birthed king
Solomon who continud the lineage to Jesus

The Book Of Hosea
The Book of Hosea is first in the division of the Bible called the Book of Twelve, or the Minor
Prophets because of their relative brevity compared to Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Hosea was a
prophet originating from the Northern Kingdom and his prophecies were mainly meant to bring the
Northern Kingdom back on track. The ministry of Hosea was around 750–720 B.C., so it ended
around the fall of the North Kingdom ("The Story of the Northern Kingdom," 11).
The book consists of Hosea's speeches that critique political, social, and religious life during the last
days of the Northern Kingdom before it was conquered and demolished by the Assyrians ("The
Story of the Northern Kingdom," 11–12). Additionally, Hosea's ministry began during or shortly
after the prophet Amos, as well as the final days of King Jeroboam II reign. It is no ... Show more

The book says, "Hear the world of the Lord, O people of Israel; for the Lord is an indictment against
the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or loyalty and no knowledge of God in the land,"
(Hosea 4:1). The Lord is accusing the nation of a list of crimes, causing the people to have "no
knowledge of God in the land." Many of those crimes relate to the Ten Commandments; therefore,
the land and all who lives upon it were starting to perish.
Chapter 4 of the Book of Hosea discusses the corruption issues brought about by the priests. Priests
depend on the sacrificial system for food; therefore, having more sins requires more sacrifices.
Hosea accuses the priests of leading the nation in the wrong direction. He suggests this when he
says, "They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity," (Hosea 4:8).
Furthermore, The Lord believes that the priest should not be immune from the consequences of their
wrongdoing. On the other hand, the Lord is conflicted because it would be hypocritical of him to not

Hosea was a minor prophet to the northern kingdom of Israel during the prosperous reign of
Jeroboam II (ETOT pg. 440). The book was written by Hosea or his prophetic circle. He prophesied
during the reign of Jeroboam II and Uzzriah. Hosea was written before the fall of Samaria in 722
BC/E. Hosea lived in the northern kingdom of Israel about two hundred years after they had broken
off from southern Judah. Hosea was called to speak on God's behalf during the reign of Jeroboam
the II. The nation was falling apart and in 722 BC/E the Assyrian Empire came in, attacked Israel,
and destroyed it. Hosea knew all of this was coming. The book opens with Hosea's failed marriage
to Gomer. They have three children but during that time, Gomer was committing adultery. ... Show

God made a covenant with the Israelites at Mt. Sinai and after being lead to the promise land, the
Israelites started worshiping Canaanite God's. God could have turned away from the Israelites but
instead, he decides to renew the covenant. The consequence for Israel's rebellion will be imminent
defeat by other nations and exile but there I hope for future restoration. God will also bring a new
Messianic King who will acknowledge all of God's blessings. The next sections of the book describe
the cause and effect of Israel's unfaithfulness. Israel lakes all knowledge and understanding of God.
God wants his people to understand him, have a relationship, and experience his love with him.
Hosea is trying to reveal the hypocrisy of Israel's worship. He keeps making a point to describe how
the Israelites keep breaking the ten commandments, causing social injustice, and worshipping
another God's. Hosea also keeps calling the Israelites out for constantly trusting in political alliances
with other nations, instead of trusting in God. They started trusting in their allies and relying only on
military power. Soon, the Israelites will learn that this was not the right

Essay on A Refleciton on Hosea 1:1-3:5
Old Testament Survey
I Am Gomer, the Whore of Samaria: A Reflection on Hosea 1:1–3:5 The ministry of Hosea took
place between 780 and 725 B.C.E. During this time in the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the people of
God were prosperous but unfaithful (Tenney Vol. 3). It was a time of paganism, marital infidelity,
and general disdain towards God. Hosea's entire ministry was a reflection of the unfaithfulness of
Israel and the love that God still had for her. Israel was the metaphorical bride of God. She was
unfaithful, yet God constantly took her back and loved her. The message Hosea was trying to
convey to the people would have been delivered near the time of the Assyrian take over. It reflects
some of the warnings David had given Israel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The smaller literary structure within chapters 1–3 reflects the much larger structure of the book
(Brisben). Forgiveness and restoration are repeated over and over throughout the story so that the
people of God can truly know that despite all of their flaws, mistakes, and suffering, God is still
with them and will take them back. Hosea began his preaching ministry by marrying Gomer. Gomer,
the prostitute of Samaria and daughter of Diblaim, was representative of all that was wrong with
Israel (Tenney Vol. 2). Many of the Israeli people did not solely follow Yahweh. Instead, many
practiced polytheism and worshiped Yahweh when it was most convenient. Some scholars believe
that Gomer was actually a temple prostitute that was a sex slave for the worship or Baal (Tenney
Vol. 3). What scholars do agree on is that Hosea's marriage to Gomer is symbolic of God's
relationship with His people. Despite the sin, specifically idolatry, in the lives of the people of Israel,
God still loved them. In the same way that Hosea took back his wife, so God has taken back his
people. The three children Hosea had were given symbolic names as a warning to the Northern
Kingdom. First, Jezreel was a warning of the impending massacre. The name stemmed from the
Valley of Jezreel where the Jews lost in a battle against the Philistines (Tenney Vol. 3). This name
would have reminded the people of Israel of the horrific experience. Though the message was

The Minor Prophet Hosea As A Young Man Lived Near Soil

The Minor Prophet Hosea
The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing
prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means "salvation." It is interesting to
observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same
Hebrew root as Hosea. (Jensen, 6739) His father name Beeri, a middle–class merchant, a farmer or
cattleman. It is uncertain about the born place of Hosea; it could have been in a town of Ephraim or
Manasseh. Due to his style of writing, the Prophet Hosea as a young man lived near soil.
Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the
prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was
abrupt, short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says,
"His message is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament." (Scroggie). The
heartbeat of God is the tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of "thus saith
the LORD" several times. (Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a
prophet.
Hosea may have been one with tender–hearted prophets toward Israel. He had many titles as a
prophet, "the prophet of the broken heart;" "the weeping prophet;" and the prophet of "Israel's zero
hour," because "the nation had sunk to

Nathan Schwartz–Salant wrote a book called, The Borderline Personality–Vision and Healing,
which suggested spirituality may be the key to resolving borderline personality disorder. In his
work, he stated that some people with BPD might become deeply religious because of their lack of
identity and those who were religious might remember the prospective of healing to the relation of
archetypal self. For example, the Christian holy book, the Bible, in Hosea 2:1–13 states, "...clearly
identify sinful behaviors and describe the associated consequences of such behavior" (Roberts
2013). This quote shows that, in the Christian bible, they have a certain method on how to deal with

Infidelity. This is the precise theme central to the book of Hosea, a topic touched upon briefly in
Intro to Old Testament. Through the prophet's marriage of a prostitute and the passionate oracles
both decrying and expressing love towards Israel, Hosea is the first book to describe God's
relationship with Israel as marital bond. As it is, such a theme, as would be expected, connects
extraordinarily well to the GEN101 Love unit. Through the passages, one sees a prime example of
true devotion in the face of adversity, similar to that of some of artifacts discussed in class. In the
end, however, what is presented is a beautiful picture of mercy and love in the face of adversity and
unfaithfulness, one that perhaps could be emulated in one's ... Show more content on

The sonnet discusses love in the face of adversity and how, if the love is true, then the hardship
faced should do little to disrupt it. The poem states, "Love is not love which alteration finds, Or
bends with the remover to remove: O, no! it is an ever–fixed mark, that looks on tempests and is
never shaken." Similarly, in Hosea, such is seen in God's case: despite the adversity created by
Israel's disobedience, God still expresses great love towards them. This is especially apparent all
throughout Hosea chapter 14; verses 4–7 state, "I will heal their apostasy; I will love them freely, for
my anger has turned from them. I will be like the dew to Israel; he shall blossom like the lily; he
shall take root like the trees of Lebanon; his shoots shall spread out; his beauty shall be like the
olive, and his fragrance like Lebanon. They shall return and dwell beneath my shadow; they shall
flourish like the grain; they shall blossom like the vine; their fame shall be like the wine of

Israel. Despite their iniquities against Him, God still promises restoration; His love has remained

Chapter 11 Of Hosea
Chapter 11 of Hosea brings to a conclusion the second prominent portion of the book, which began
at 4:1 with the phrase "hear the word of the LORD". This passage "reveals God's love for Israel as
strongly as any passage in this book" and is almost completely dominated by the voice of Yahweh,
with Hubbard calling Him "the chief speaker". Only two verses (vv. 8–9) directly address the people
of Israel. The subject of these verses are threefold: Yahweh's anguish at Israel's' rejection of Him in
favour of Baal (vv.1–4), their infidelity and the consequence of forthcoming judgment (vv.5–7), and
Yahweh's constant love, meaning His people would not be utterly destroyed but would return home
to His blessings (vv.8–11).

suggests this has a double meaning, with a portion of the Israelite people geographically shifting to
the land of Egypt as a result of Assyrian conquests. Eaton, however, writes that v.5 talks of a
deportation to Assyria where the people would experience what was experienced back in Egypt, in
terms of exile (v.5) and military devastation

In verse 12, there is the motif of guilt and sin, arranged in such a way as to form an assonance for
emphasis. Verse 13 contains the motifs of the folly of Ephraim which leads to his destruction, and
the imagery of the female body, both common threads in the book of Hosea. The imagery of the
female body, particularly regarding death in childbirth, is deeply connected to ideas of taboo, human
fertility and agricultural fertility. These verses encourage us to question the world around us and to
be prepared to leave our comfort zone.
The First Motif: Guilt and Sin In verse 12, the author uses several linguistic devices to make his
point. Both verbs, ‫רּו֙ר‬‫ָצ‬ and ‫ָ֖נה‬‫ּו‬‫פ‬ ‫ְצ‬, begin with the same Hebrew letter and form an assonance. In
addition, both nouns, ‫ן‬ ‫ֺ֣ו‬‫ֲע‬ and ‫ֹו‬ ‫אֽת‬‫ָּט‬‫ַח‬, present similar concepts. How the author is making his point
here adds to the point itself; in the Hebrew, this verse is repetitive in both sound and meaning. This
emphasizes the author's point and makes it less easily dismissed or forgotten. It digs deeper into the
minds of the audience than if the author had merely stated it once. Interestingly, the word pair of
guilt and sin appear three other times in Hosea (4:8; 8:13; 9:9), and each time the verse is similarly
structured with an assonance of the verbs and the same two parallel nouns above. The linguistic
quality of these verses makes them memorable, what we might call today an ear–worm. In each of
these verses, the guilt and sin are

Relationship of the Messages of Amos and Hosea to the Mosaic Covenant
Assignment: From the oracles of Amos and Hosea show how their messages were true to the Mosaic

In completing this assignment, I shall first endeavour to answer the question: What are the key
elements of the Mosaic revelation? In addition, a brief overview of the n
New Beginnings promise will be presented. Following this, I shall then relate the oracles of Amos

His compassion is particularly evident in His provision for the poor, the oppressed and the

"None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of

God particularly revealed Himself to Moses as a covenant–making and covenant–keeping God. No
doubt, Moses had in depth knowledge of the Abrahamic covenant prior to His commission on

Abrahamic covenant that God was now setting things in motion to deliver the children of Israel and
to bring them into the land He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:
"God spoke to Moses and said to him, ‘I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to
Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. I also
established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as

Did you know that the book in bible reveals the personality of the prophet? It explains to us that we
should carefully read the bible and think about it. I read a book about Hosea but it was from
Gomer's perspective view and it contains a little bit of fiction. After I read the book about Gomer
and Hosea, I started to be interested in Hosea and that's why I chose Hosea over any other prophets.
As I write about Hosea in this essay, I want to know about his relationship with others, God's plan
for him, what he had done during his life time and other things as well. Hosea was the first minor
prophet. It does not mean that he is less important than other major prophets, but because they have
shorter books that's why it calls Minor Prophets. The book of Hosea shows really well about Hosea's
true personality so that we can define him very emotional, responsible to his duty, loyal, and show
unconditional love for his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Word Love In The New Testament And Old Testament
Love is taken in many directions in the New Testament and Old Testament. The way God and Jesus
Christ present this emotion throughout the bible, shows a better understanding of unconditional love
to others. Love is one of the characteristics of God and an important part of His nature. Therefore, I
will bring forth explanation of how well the word "Love" is used from translation to translation. My
research will be coming out of the New Testament and Old Testament, even though there are many
other books I could talk about for the word love. In the New Testament, Almost everyone knows that
" God so loved the world" (John 3:16) and "God is love" (John 4:8), and when love appears nobody
can express it better than Jesus. We mainly hear about love in the beginning of the first Corinthians (
1 CO 13) at wedding ceremonies. As new translation were coming out over the years, the version
NIV used love as sex acts in Genesis to express the word rather than KJV and ESV used love as
knowing the feeling and NASB used love as strong relations. In the 1 corinthians, Paul created a
message saying," the love of god, the love of jesus christ, and the love that the christian expresses in
response to God's saving action in Jesus Christ (samuel E Balentine). As I was looking into the new
testament, the chapter called First John stood out to me because majority of the words are love or
something describing love. First John was written to distinguish the differences between

The Book of Hosea is one among the several books of the Hebrew scripture and appears as the first
in the order of the twelve Minor Prophets. The term 'minor' refers to the length and not the
importance of the books when compared to the books of Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah. All the twelve
minor books are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah,
Zechariah, Haggai & Malachi (Feinberg, 1990). Hosea was instructed by God to marry a prostitute,
by the name of Gomer, who symbolized covenantal relationship between Israel and him (God).

Book Of Hosea Essay
Scholar Paul House expresses the focal point of the Book of the Twelve portrays the attributes of
God. House brings to light that there is a threefold movement or development of the emphases. The
Book of Hosea through Micah warnings dominates the depiction of Yahweh. The Book of Nahum
through Zephaniah, judgement texts dominate. Lastly, Haggai through Malachi highlights the
restoration. A common theme among the pre–exilic prophets was proclamation and prophecy
regarding repentance of Israel and Judah, no repentance would bring forth judgment, and despite the
forthcoming judgement, there was still hope for the future and restoration. We will discuss six Minor
Prophets and their prophecies, and there correlation to the New Testament scriptures and prophecies.
The six Minor Prophets that will be discussed are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Micah, and
Habakkuk (Hays, 2010, p. 262). Hosea ministered from 782 BC – 686 BC, and was a prophet of
Israel (Bible.org, 2017). We will discuss three scriptures that connect the Old Testament scriptures
of Hosea to the New Testament scriptures. "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment
of God rather than burnt offerings" (Hosea 6:6, NIV). This correlates to Matthew 9:13, "But go and

It is known that his name signifies "Jehovah is God". Joel always had an original approach when he
faced the problems in his time. Because of Joel's duty as a preacher of repentance he takes high
nobility among the twelve prophets. It is also stated that he is the son of Pethuel. "Like Hosea, he
[Joel] distinguished himself from others of the same name, by the mention of his unknown father"
(Pusey 143). It can also be possible that Joel was an inhabitant of Judah, or even a citizen of
Jerusalem. This can be proven by the constant repetition of the words "Zion" and "children of Zion
(2: I, 23), and also of "Judah and Jerusalem" (3: I, 6). Many scholars believe that Joel was also a
priest because of his wide range of knowledge of the Temple and also of the worship programs. It is
concluded from the works that Joel has written that he was a very literate person or according to
John Watts, "a 'literary prophecy' that is, prophecy composed to be read". This can be seen through
Joel's extensive prophetic writing and also in his poetic and descriptive writings. The best example
is seen in the writings of the Locust plague (2:3–11) and a drought (1:15–20). Although there are
many diverse opinions of when Joel lived or who he was, Yates gives the best overview of whom he
was. I found Joel to be a very interesting prophet he in way he reminds me of my late grandfather,

have come to some supposition that they can be "advocates" in Jesus or enthusiasts of Jesus without

It is nothing to sin in America these days and make sense of what you're doing. People say things

from this world. America has to turn away from its sin like God was pleading with Israel to do

Comparison Of Judges And Genesis
Each member of the human race is a unique individual; no two people are exactly alike. There may
be similarities among various people but with those similarities there will be at least one
characteristic that separates one from another. Although there is not one distinct difference that may
be used to distinguish one person from another, there is one universal similarity which all of
humanity shares. All people are united in that they are made in the image of God. This trait which
bonds all people is given by God to all, even those who do not believe in the Lord. Therefore, being

The Lord "was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of
the judge" (Judges 2:18). The judge was God's mouthpiece in which He spoke to His people and
gave them the orders by which they could regain His helping hand and be released from the clutches
of their enemies. His guidance is needed by the Israelites, and once a judge dies, they lose sight of
the one and only God and return to apostasy. Their repeated use of idolatry shows humanity's
rejection of their proper vocation of being made in God's image. They favor the works of human
hands as opposed to the works of His hands, and through these actions are going against God and
His image. The people are once again sinning and as a result are not only denying God but also their

Fear In The Most Powerful Motivator, By Robert Evans...
Fear is a negative word when it comes to mind and an unwanted feeling. It is something that is
dangerous, painful, and threatening to us. A lot of people do not think of it as a motivator. In fact, it
is the most potent motivator according to Robert Evans Wilson Jr., author of The Most Powerful
Motivator. Fear is what keeps us from injuries, alive, provoke fights, and prevent us from making
mistakes (Wilson, 2009). Fear as a motivator also is a pain in the ass. In the book March, there were
many situations where fear was fought against to obtain equal rights. The African American fear the
ongoing racism, and they turned it around and used it as a motivator.
Fear is what keeps people brave; One example was at the very beginning of the book before chapter
one, it showed a graphic scene of peaceful African Americans marching across a bridge. Hosea
asked John, "Can you swim?" John replied, "No." Hosea replied, "Neither can I, but we might have
to." The Armed police were on the other side yelling to turn around. Instead, they kneel. The cops
ended up violently beating them up. In Understanding Comics, Scott talked about emotions through
vibrations of the lettering style; it tells an ongoing struggle of sounds. On page eight where cops
were beating up the African Americans, had different vibration lettering in and out of balloons. This
page showed the different struggle of fear. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book ' Hosea ' Essay
Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing
hope for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms
condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether
political (5:13; 7:3–7, 8–12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), God alone is all–sufficient. The
author uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically
persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God.
He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people
(4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the
author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital
imagery between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God,
who declares, "My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender" (11:8) when
thinking about his beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned,
will not repent, and thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive
saga of God's unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving.
As aforementioned, the writing of Hosea, begins as a well formed and tightly structured
arrangement but most of the discourse are repetitive and

Gomer's Argument In Hosea Prostitution
Hosea married a woman with the characteristics that God had instructed him. In Hosea 1:2 God
says, "Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this
land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord" So, Hosea married a woman, Gomer, who was a
prostitute and who bore 2 sons, Jazreel and Lo–Ammi, and a daughter Lo–Ruhamah. Gods
instruction of marriage for Hosea is suggestive of the fact that Gomer was a prostitute because God
describes her as a "promiscuous" and an "adulterous" woman. Further indication that may suggest
that Gomer was a prostitute in Hosea 3:3 where Hosea says, "...you must not be a prostitute..."
I believe that the woman in Hosea 3 is in fact Gomer. This is because in Hosea 3:1 the Lord says,

judged/punished. If you do not repent, and if you are judged, I will nevertheless be faithful to my
covenant, and I will bring restoration. For Genre Report Four, you are to read the entire book of

What was God's message? the point of God telling Hosea to marry a whore is that, so other comes to
that by breaking covenant with God, what will happen to them and what God will do to them. God
also told the Hosea that his wife will later on after the marriage and also having children she will
become unfaithful to him.God message is that he will punish the king of the Jehu's dynasty, who
committed murder at Jezreel. he also told he will take the Israel Independence. He will also not

Figurative Language In Prophetic Literature
1)
The figurative language in prophetic literature, wisdom literature, and Lamentations all depict
feminine figures and characteristics. The prophetic literature consists of Amos, Hosea, Isiah,
Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. In these scriptures, the people of Israel are depicted as pitiless and loveless
by naming the Children of Hosea and Gomer Lo–ruhamah and Lo–ammi explaining them as
children of "whoredom". This imagery is seen as Israel (Gomer) as a woman who has betrayed God
(Hosea) through infidelity, worshiping other Gods and procreating with other people in those
religions. We see Israel as an exposed woman for her iniquity (Hosea 2:3–9) a shaming for her
transgressions as a bride. God casts Israel out of the home for her disloyalty (Hosea ... Show more

Two metanarratives are seen in the Chronicles; the importance and redemption of repentance, and
the reoccurring theme throughout the old testament, exile–and–return. David is the model for
repentance but there is a new story of repentance not seen in the book of Kings, Manasseh. In 2
Chronicles 33:10–13 Manasseh repents for his foreign worship and more, by building an outer wall
to protect the city of David and removed false idols to restore the altars of YHWH. The repentance
of Manasseh is completely missing in the book of Kings. Exile and return are experienced in 2
Chronicles 36:11–21, although kings may have repented (David, Solomon, and Manasseh) it is not
implied that the people of Israel have also (2 Chronicles 34:23–24) and therefore God lets His
people return to exile. The holy places are destroyed and desecrated while the Israelites are forced
again into exile. Thankfully, exile is always followed with return and restoration. King Cyrus
acknowledges the Hebrew God and rebuilds the temple and the Israelites are free from exile once

Relationship Between God And Israel

  • 1. Relationship Between God And Israel TB 133–140 The author dives into chapter six by addressing the prophetic themes, covenant, judgment and redemption. According to the author all the prophets have a special relationship between God and Israel. They all share a common theme as well. Themes include announcement of judgment on Israel, punishment, announcement of restoration after a rebellion and comparisons of Israel. The author also points out what Israel is the main focus throughout the old testament. God choose Israel and entered into a covenant so his expectations are high compared to other nations living at that time. Which is why intense images being express the relationship between God and Israel. Such images include parent–child, husband–wife, church–bride, shepherd–flock, owner– vineyard and potter–clay. When Israel rebels against God Israel is compared to a prostitute or camel. However, even when Israel is beyond redemption, the chosen prophets beg for repentance from the nation of Israel. More common is the image of people turning away from God even when presented salvation. The author presents the prophetic books in canonical order. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and the Scroll of the Twelve are presented to the reader providing an introduction of each book. According to the author the book of Isaiah is a view into the school of prophecy descending from the great eighth–century. Additionally, evidence has surfaced confirming Isaiah did not write the entire book himself but rather is a complied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. What Happened To Jacob However, in the case of James, it is unsure why it became James, rather than Jacob. One may conjecture that James was already a common name in England as was the King who commissioned the translation, but it is still perplexing as to why Jacob was deliberately changed to James. Was Jacob too Jewish for them or was there an attempt at Christianize him or make him appear as a Gentile? Why are other modern translations unwilling to change it to Jacob or even Yaakov? Wine or grape juice Next, let us consider the cases involving words which do not exist in English. There are several Hebrew words that are translated into one English word "wine." The most common word in Hebrew for wine is ‫ן‬‫ִי‬‫ָ֫י‬ (yayin). It is used in verses such as Genesis 9:21, "And he drank of the wine (yayin), and was drunken." In this case, yayin is definitely alcoholic which caused Noah to be inebriated. The same term is also used in Isaiah 22:13, "And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine (yayin): let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die." However, in the same book of Isaiah, in chapter 24, verse 7, Isaiah the prophet uses the term ‫ירֹוׁש‬ ‫ִּת‬ (tirosh): "The new wine (tirosh) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History Essay Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History text are complementary because it talks about the relationship of the people of Israel and God, Kingship and religion and the warn them about the punishment that accompanies. Though the message is the same the mode each took to deliver a God message is different. The primary goal of the Deuteronomistic History is the perception of Kingship and religion, the word Deuteronomistic History was first formulated by Martin Noth in 1943. It refers to those historical writings (also known as former prophets), the books consist of Joshua, the judges, Samuel, and kings (Collins 2004:183). Therefore the lord said to Solomon, since this has been your mind and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and give it to your servant. The Deuteronomistic History talks about the kingship of David, Saul and Solomon but portrays the monarchy as corrupt, improper and always bringing calamity to the people. Hosea uses his marriage to a prostitute as a means of preaching to the people of Northern Israel. God commanded Hosea to marry a prostitute named Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, his Israel past figured prominently in Hosea's prophecies to Israel. Mercy and judgment are also important themes in Hosea's message. He was a prophet of eventual hope and immediate doom, given the understanding the covenant of blessing and curses as outline in the Tora. His message stems from the covenant violation motif as reflected in the lawsuit YHWH has brought against Israel (Hill and Walton 2009:582–587). God controversy with Israel was rooted in conflicting religious ideologies of Canaanite Baalism and Hebrew Yahwism (Hos. 4:4) (Hill and Walton 2009:589). For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Prophets And The Old Testament The last seventeen books of the Old Testament are books of prophecy. Five of these books are known as the major prophets while the other twelve books are known as the minor prophets. The prophets in the Old Testament are very important. The prophets spoke for God and were called by the Lord to do five specific things (Hindson & Yates, 2012 p. 287). They were to tell the people to turn back to the Lord, remind people to conform to the Law, they were also to rebuild the nation and create a spiritual revival in the people as well as a regeneration in spiritual birth (Hindson, 2010, p. 123–124). Prophets were also given a very unique talent that they used for God. "One of the most unique features of the true Old Testament prophets was their ability to predict" (Hindson & Yates, p. 289). "Biblical prophets speak to future events as though they had already occurred" (Hindson & Yates, p. 289). Though prophets are known for their ability to foresee the future, they also address issues that the Israelites were facing. The prophets spoke on many issues such as idolatry, social injustice, and religious ritualism. Frederick E. Greenspahn addressed the prophets input on idolatry. "Israelite prophets seem particularly concerned with this problem: 'their land is full of idols... idols of silver and gold which they made in order to prostrate [to them],' says Isaiah" (Greenspahn, 2004). Isaiah was not the only prophet who ran into the problem of idolatry, "Hosea describes the Northern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Political And Political Characters Of Israel In The... God, when are you going to get us out of here? This was the cry of the Israelites when they were in captivity. Before the book of Ezra, Israel was disobedient to God. As a result, God punishes them by putting them under the captivity of another nation. During the captivity of the Israelites, God was orchestrating a plan of restoring for His people and this plan a student can find His plan is in the book of Ezra. When studying the book of Ezra, God's faithfulness floods over the book! Students need to identify the political and spiritual background of Israel and key characters to understand the book of Ezra. The political background of Israel in the pre–exilic era was disastrous. In Israel, there was not a king who followed God's law, but in Judea there were some kings like Hezekiah and Josiah who followed God (2 Kings 18:3, 2 Kings 22:2). Thus, when kings do not obey God, they tend to have a temporal perspective on their ruling. This temporal perspective lends to a lack of prudence. For a nation to run effectively, the king needs to make sure the national defense is secure and the nation's attitude is healthy. However, the kings of Israel did not take care of their nation. King Hosea is an example of a king who did not take care of his country (2 Kings 17:1–6). King Hosea reigned for nine years in Israel, which was the twelfth year of Ahaz in Judea (2 Kings 17:1–2). During king Hosea's reign, he become allies with the Assyrian empire, but he did not follow through with his tributes (2 Kings 17:3–4). Thus, the actions of king Hosea caused the kingdom of Israel to fall to the Assyrians (2 Kings 17:5–6). The spiritual background of Israel in pre–exilic era, like the political, was not good. Through the leadership of the bad kings and the influences of other nations, Israel did not have a pure relationship with God. Some of the things that Israel did were worshipping other gods, like Baal and Asherah, and creating altars for other gods (2 Kings 17:7). Therefore, God sent prophets like Jeremiah and Isaiah to warn the Israelites of their disobedience. However, the warnings from the prophets did not work because the Israelites' hearts were hard to the warnings of God (2 Kings 17:18–20). As a result, God sent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Prophets To many Christians the Prophets are seen as being predictors of the Messiah, but it can be argued that one can take any tidbit of information from a source (not just the bible) and use it, whether within context or out of context, to support one's argument. In my opinion, as far as the prophets are concerned, just because the prophets seem to predict the coming of the Messiah because of the parallels that have been drawn between the books of the prophets and the New Testament does not necessarily mean that they were able to predict the future–it means that the New Testament authors such as Matthew had either heard or could refer back to the writings of the Old Testament prophets such as Isaiah, Micah, and Hosea. The problem is not that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Hosea names two of his children Lo–ruhmah and Lo–ammi. As Borg points out, these are Hebrew phrases that mean "not pitied" and "not my people". Borg also points out that the names represent a threat because the days are coming when Israel will be "not pitied" and "not my (God's) people". Chapter two of Hosea describes a divorce which seems to represent the end of the covenant between God and the Northern Kingdom – a symbolic act where by the divorce of Hosea from Gamer for infidelity represents God's rejection of the Northern Kingdom. In typical fashion, though, Hosea ends this prophecy with the declaration that God will one day renew the covenant and will take back Israel. Another example of the allegory in Hosea is in chapter three when Hosea seeks out Gomer again. Either she sold herself into slavery because of debt or she is with someone who demands money in order to give her up because Hosea has to buy her back. Even after he takes her name though he refrains from having sex with her for a while to symbolize the fact that Israel will be without a King for many years but that God will take Israel back even at a cost to him. Now back to the theme of social justice and the book of Amos...as Borg points our in his chapter on "Reading the prophets again", and so it can be found in the bible, Amos speaks out against the wealthy for their exploitation of the poor. PART I The book Hosea was written between 790 and 710 BC by the prophet Hosea. The story is about the relationship between Hosea and his wife, Gomer, and how their lives parallel that of the northern kingdom of Israel. The LORD tells Hosea to love his wife again so he buys her back from a slave market and tells her she must live with and be faithful to him. The LORD is extremely distressed by Israel's lack of love and acknowledgment of His existence. God tells how the priests have not spread His message, but rather they've fed off the Israelites sins. God tells how he's going to punish the people of Israel, for their sins, and the priests, for their lack of concern. He closes by saying he will go to his place and not recognize the peoples of Israel until they earnestly seek him out. In chapter 11 God capsulizes Israel's sins and his judgment against the people. He describes how he chose the Israelites as His people and how he delivered them from slavery in Egypt. During this dissertation he has a change of heart and decides he will not destroy the nation Israel even if they turn from Him. He decides he will force Israel to repent by less destructive means. Christ's Love for the Church Christ's Love for the Church Sometimes following God is easy, but not the case of Hosea and Gomer in their not–so–fairytale romance, we see that following God's plan for our life works out in the end. The story of Hosea and Gomer was beautiful and lovely but also quirky. This story is located in the book of Hosea in the Old Testament of the Bible. If your spouse were to cheat on you with multiple partners would you stay with them? Most people would say no and that they would leave, but is this the case with Hosea and Gomer? "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV). Some consider John 3:16 as the "theme verse" for the entire Bible. (What Does John 3:16 Mean? 1). This tells us that God loves us unconditionally and knows that we sin, but he still loves us. HOSEAAND GOMER Hosea is responsible and successful. In this book, Hosea was an obedient and faithful prophet of God, and he was responsible and followed all of the orders that were presented to him. With every order given to him, he did not fail. Gomer is irresponsible and unclean. Gomer was a woman that was very unclean and irresponsible. She was with many men and was not looking for love. Gomer is content with the life she lives. Gomer was always perfectly content with her life style and never thought about changing it. HOSEAAND GOMER FALL IN LOVE God gives Hosea a task. • 17. Essay on Summary of The Book of Hosea In this book, there is an ongoing story of adultery, fornication, and betrayal between God and Israel portrayed through the relationship between the prophet Hosea, and his wife Gomer. There are a few different views on the actual relationship between Hosea and Gomer, the first of which is that Gomer was already a harlot when Hosea took her as his wife. This one I would think is the most widely accepted, simply because it's the literal description of the book, and people tend to lean towards literal definitions more frequently than not, just look at how people of the world have torn apart the book of Revelation! The second view is that Gomer was a harlot, but was only adulterous after getting married. Those who believe this say that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gomer cheated on the prophet many times just as the nation of Israel cheated on their God with other insignificant gods. Hosea provided for his wife the best way he could, and treated her the best way he could, and received nothing but betrayal on her part. God, the same way, did nothing but provide for His people, His wife. He cared for them in every way He could, and they still betrayed Him at every turn. Hosea is a book telling of the judgment that is to come against them as a nation, and what is required of them to come back to God. At the point of writing this book, it is already too late, and the nation can do nothing to stay the wrath of God against them. God did everything He could for them, even as it is said in 13:11, God gave them a king in His anger, going against what He wanted for them, just to make them happy. In the end however, we see that God took their king away in His wrath. The nation as a whole is to be captured, and they will no longer have a king like they had before. Their glory will be taken away because of their sinfulness and rebellion towards God. This is one of the longer minor prophets, having 14 chapters, most of which are dealing strictly with the ungodliness of Israel as a nation, but the final chapter seems to me that Israel did change their ways and repent to some extent. We do see that God will forgive them, but that does not mean that the consequences for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has also been subject to misinterpretation for many years as there is a much deeper meaning within the book that has enlightened audience that Jonah was originally written for. However, this remains one of the best books in that it contains a miracle that seems impossible which directly relates to people because it is a captivating story in which a man survives in the belly of a giant fish. Many have translated the word fish for a whale as that is the only fish that comes to mind that would have the capacity to hold a human. Let us talk about the facts, history, characteristics and some background that makes up the beloved book. A prophet named Jonah, the son of Amittai, is mentioned in (New International Version, 2 Kings 14.25). This prophet was from Gath Hepher in Galilee and presumably was the same prophet named in (Jonah 1.1). The prophet would have prophesied in the reign of King Jeroboam II in 793–753 B.C. Characterizing his book, Toward an Interpretation of the Book of Proverbs: Selfishness and Secularity Reconsidered, as standing in line with canonical interpretation, Zoltán S. Schwáb takes careful heed to the possibilities of theological reflections of the Book of Proverbs in resonance with its canonical context and the church tradition. As a consequence of his focus on theological, constant self–reflection, he leaves behind the historical quests to find out original settings/meanings, redactional layers, or compositional development of the book. His efforts is attuned to understand the text rather than to know. He, in this way, contributes to constructing a theology of Proverbs. In this book, Schwáb delves into two major topics that he ... Among virtues of Thomas' thinking, Schwáb understands, the virtue of prudence is parallel to the practical admonition of Proverbs. "The natural inclination for Self–preservation and the priority of self–love does not mean selfishness (98)" in Thomistic moral theology. Schwáb's systematic analysis on Deuteronomy presents that the motive clauses in Deuteronomy are about effectiveness and long life that are not indifferent from Proverbs' self–interest. Reading Proverbs 1–9 as the context of Proverbs' sentence–literature levels out the seeming non–Yahwistic characters of Proverbs. These results allow Schwáb to view that Proverbs is no more self–interested than the rest of the Bible. This question came to me as I read Hanneken. He states, "They could have given up and assimilated to the culture... Instead, they developed the idea that their God had not been defeated, but planned the exile for their own long–term good, and remained with them." This was a clear departure in thought at the time and begs the question why? Understanding why the Israelites held onto God during their exile will help many see that this God is unique. God does strange things at times, things we don't always understand, things we can't categorize, things that don't fit into what we think we know of him. And this is one of those strange things. Perhaps Hosea then began to understand a little bit of what God was doing. He knew it was customary in Israel to teach by symbols –– God often used this method of instructing his people –– and that names were very important. God often used the meanings of names to teach Israel certain truths just as we shall see in the case of Isaiah later on. Now God was planning to use this prophet and his family as an example for his people. Hosea obeyed the will of God, went to court Gomer, and they were married. At first it was heaven on earth. Hosea loved this girl. You can't read this prophecy without seeing that. They must have been wonderfully happy together, and then they had their first child. It was a boy, as God had said. Bear in mind that it was the result of adultery on Gomer's part. Hosea's heart was filled to bursting, and he went to God for the name of this boy. "What should we name the boy?" To his surprise, God picked the name Jezreel. Now Jezreel means "cast–away" and was a name of shame in Israel. • 27. Book Of Hosea Essay The Book of Hosea is a story of "God's redeeming love and forgiveness." In this story of the Yahwist prophet Hosea, the Lord Yahweh is speaking through Hosea. The sexual script of this story follows a distinct pattern of guilt, punishment, then forgiveness and acceptance. The guilt of Gomer as a "harlot" is justified by presenting the subjectivity of females to the judgements of authoritative male figures. Regardless of the morality or righteousness of Gomer's act, she is belittled and shamed for doing having sex with several men. The punishment follows as Gomer is stripped of her clothes and shamed in front of everyone. Yahweh's punishment even goes as far as a "miscarrying womb and dry breasts," removing from women the power of life and procreation. This idea of punishment resonates again with the male figure having total and complete control over the female in all aspects of her daily engagements. Lastly we have forgiveness and acceptance. Hosea takes Gomer as his wife, ignoring all that she has committed in the sight of Yahweh. Hosea choosing Gomer as his wife considers the "sins" which she has committed. • 31. Gomer And Hosea The book of Hosea has to be one of the oddest books of the entire Bible to some. Who would have ever thought that God would have asked his obedient and faithful prophet Hosea to go and take a prostitute to be his wife? There is a common knowledge that God can use anything for His glory. Therefore, as odd as Hosea and Gomer's story is, it is not exempt from glorifying God. God's love is unfailing and unconditional for all of humanity and that was proven in and through the love story of Hosea and Gomer. In this paper, I will cover God's peculiar instructions for Hosea, Hosea and Gomer's story, Hosea's heartbreak, the state of Israel during this time, and God's unfailing love for Israel. God's Peculiar Instructions for Hosea In Hosea 1:2, "God gives Hosea instructions to go out and marry an adulterous wife and have children of unfaithfulness. God told Hosea to do this because Israel is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord." Forgiveness and restoration are repeated over and over throughout the story so that the people of God can truly know that despite all of their flaws, mistakes, and suffering, God is still with them and will take them back. Hosea began his preaching ministry by marrying Gomer. Gomer, the prostitute of Samaria and daughter of Diblaim, was representative of all that was wrong with Israel (Tenney Vol. 2). Many of the Israeli people did not solely follow Yahweh. Instead, many practiced polytheism and worshiped Yahweh when it was most convenient. Some scholars believe that Gomer was actually a temple prostitute that was a sex slave for the worship or Baal (Tenney Vol. 3). What scholars do agree on is that Hosea's marriage to Gomer is symbolic of God's relationship with His people. Despite the sin, specifically idolatry, in the lives of the people of Israel, God still loved them. In the same way that Hosea took back his wife, so God has taken back his people. Sharpe Professor Kenneth Yelverton OTS – 102 18 September 2015 The Minor Prophet Hosea The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means "salvation." It is interesting to observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same Hebrew root as Hosea. (Jensen, 6739) His father name Beeri, a middle–class merchant, a farmer or cattleman. It is uncertain about the born place of Hosea; it could have been in a town of Ephraim or Manasseh. Due to his style of writing, the Prophet Hosea as a young man lived near soil. Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was abrupt, short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says, "His message is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament." (Scroggie). The heartbeat of God is the tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of "thus saith the LORD" several times. (Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a prophet. Hosea may have been one with tender–hearted prophets toward Israel. These verses encourage us to question the world around us and to be prepared to leave our comfort zone. The First Motif: Guilt and Sin In verse 12, the author uses several linguistic devices to make his point. Both verbs, ‫רּו֙ר‬‫ָצ‬ and ‫ָ֖נה‬‫ּו‬‫פ‬ ‫ְצ‬, begin with the same Hebrew letter and form an assonance. In addition, both nouns, ‫ן‬ ‫ֺ֣ו‬‫ֲע‬ and ‫ֹו‬ ‫אֽת‬‫ָּט‬‫ַח‬, present similar concepts. How the author is making his point here adds to the point itself; in the Hebrew, this verse is repetitive in both sound and meaning. This emphasizes the author's point and makes it less easily dismissed or forgotten. It digs deeper into the minds of the audience than if the author had merely stated it once. Interestingly, the word pair of

Relationship of the Messages of Amos and Hosea to the Mosaic Covenant Assignment: From the oracles of Amos and Hosea show how their messages were true to the Mosaic revelation. (Think particularly of the Sinai covenant blessings and curses and the new beginning). 1.0 Introduction In completing this assignment, I shall first endeavour to answer the question: What are the key elements of the Mosaic revelation? In addition, a brief overview of the n New Beginnings promise will be presented. Following this, I shall then relate the oracles of Amos and Hosea to the Mosaic revelation in order to demonstrate that their messages were true to the Mosaic revelation. 2.0 The Mosaic Revelation There are three elements of the Mosaic ... No doubt, Moses had in depth knowledge of the Abrahamic covenant prior to His commission on Mount Horeb, but at that "Mount of God", he was clearly instructed that it was on the basis of the Abrahamic covenant that God was now setting things in motion to deliver the children of Israel and to bring them into the land He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob: "God spoke to Moses and said to him, ‘I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. • 54. Hosea Research Paper Did you know that the book in bible reveals the personality of the prophet? It explains to us that we should carefully read the bible and think about it. I read a book about Hosea but it was from Gomer's perspective view and it contains a little bit of fiction. After I read the book about Gomer and Hosea, I started to be interested in Hosea and that's why I chose Hosea over any other prophets. As I write about Hosea in this essay, I want to know about his relationship with others, God's plan for him, what he had done during his life time and other things as well. Hosea was the first minor prophet. It does not mean that he is less important than other major prophets, but because they have shorter books that's why it calls Minor Prophets. The book of Hosea shows really well about Hosea's true personality so that we can define him very emotional, responsible to his duty, loyal, and show unconditional love for his wife. ... Did you know the facts that God even gave some other signs to Israelites by naming Hosea's children? God named Hosea and Gomer's children to give signs to Israelites. The first son of Hosea name was zereel meaning that "God's scatter" and the second son name is Lo–Ruhamah which means "not pitied." • 56. The Word Love In The New Testament And Old Testament Love is taken in many directions in the New Testament and Old Testament. The way God and Jesus Christ present this emotion throughout the bible, shows a better understanding of unconditional love to others. Love is one of the characteristics of God and an important part of His nature. Therefore, I will bring forth explanation of how well the word "Love" is used from translation to translation. My research will be coming out of the New Testament and Old Testament, even though there are many other books I could talk about for the word love. In the New Testament, Almost everyone knows that " God so loved the world" (John 3:16) and "God is love" (John 4:8), and when love appears nobody can express it better than Jesus. We mainly hear about love in the beginning of the first Corinthians ( 1 CO 13) at wedding ceremonies. As new translation were coming out over the years, the version NIV used love as sex acts in Genesis to express the word rather than KJV and ESV used love as knowing the feeling and NASB used love as strong relations. In the 1 corinthians, Paul created a message saying," the love of god, the love of jesus christ, and the love that the christian expresses in response to God's saving action in Jesus Christ (samuel E Balentine). As I was looking into the new testament, the chapter called First John stood out to me because majority of the words are love or something describing love. The Book of Hosea is one among the several books of the Hebrew scripture and appears as the first in the order of the twelve Minor Prophets. The term 'minor' refers to the length and not the importance of the books when compared to the books of Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah. All the twelve minor books are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Zechariah, Haggai & Malachi (Feinberg, 1990). Hosea was instructed by God to marry a prostitute, by the name of Gomer, who symbolized covenantal relationship between Israel and him (God). Hosea's prophesies were unique in the sense that they were relayed through the names given to his children. This paper seeks to give an illustrative description on the first chapter of ... Little information is given about the prophet. According to Mays (1969) the name Hosea appears only in the title of the book and the heading for the narrative in chapter one and is not mentioned anywhere again in the book (Mays, p. 1), while according to Hallman Dictionary (1991), the name Hosea only appears at Hosea chapter 1 verses 1–2 and at Romans chapter 9 verse 25 in the Bible. There is no information about where he was born, what he did before becoming a prophet, or when and how he was called to be a prophet. He certainly became a prophet at the marriageable age because that is when the message of God came to him (Mays, p. 2). From the first verse, we are able to know his father's name; Beeri and no other information about him. The name Hosea means salvation. Hosea is identified as a prophet in Hosea 1 verse1 and a genuine one for that matter, the word of the Lord came to him and the source of his authority was God. • 60. Book Of Hosea Essay Scholar Paul House expresses the focal point of the Book of the Twelve portrays the attributes of God. House brings to light that there is a threefold movement or development of the emphases. The Book of Hosea through Micah warnings dominates the depiction of Yahweh. The Book of Nahum through Zephaniah, judgement texts dominate. Lastly, Haggai through Malachi highlights the restoration. A common theme among the pre–exilic prophets was proclamation and prophecy regarding repentance of Israel and Judah, no repentance would bring forth judgment, and despite the forthcoming judgement, there was still hope for the future and restoration. We will discuss six Minor Prophets and their prophecies, and there correlation to the New Testament scriptures and prophecies. The six Minor Prophets that will be discussed are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Micah, and Habakkuk (Hays, 2010, p. 262). Hosea ministered from 782 BC – 686 BC, and was a prophet of Israel (Bible.org, 2017). We will discuss three scriptures that connect the Old Testament scriptures of Hosea to the New Testament scriptures. He is placed between the prophets Hosea and Amos; this information can be used later in determining the time in which his book was written. The book of Joel is divided into four chapters. In the book there is no true understanding about Joel himself, except his name and his father's name. The theme of the Book of Joel is that salvation will come to Judah and Jerusalem only when the people turn to Yahweh. Joel always had an original approach when he faced the problems in his time. Because of Joel's duty as a preacher of repentance he takes high nobility among the twelve prophets. It is also stated that he is the son of Pethuel. "Like Hosea, he [Joel] distinguished himself from others of the same name, by the mention of his unknown father" (Pusey 143). It can also be possible that Joel was an inhabitant of Judah, or even a citizen of Jerusalem. This can be proven by the constant repetition of the words "Zion" and "children of Zion (2: I, 23), and also of "Judah and Jerusalem" (3: I, 6). Many scholars believe that Joel was also a priest because of his wide range of knowledge of the Temple and also of the worship programs. It is concluded from the works that Joel has written that he was a very literate person or according to John Watts, "a 'literary prophecy' that is, prophecy composed to be read". This can be seen through Joel's extensive prophetic writing and also in his poetic and descriptive writings. The best example is seen in the writings of the Locust plague (2:3–11) and a drought (1:15–20). Although there are many diverse opinions of when Joel lived or who he was, Yates gives the best overview of whom he was. There may be similarities among various people but with those similarities there will be at least one characteristic that separates one from another. Although there is not one distinct difference that may be used to distinguish one person from another, there is one universal similarity which all of humanity shares. All people are united in that they are made in the image of God. This trait which bonds all people is given by God to all, even those who do not believe in the Lord. It is something that is dangerous, painful, and threatening to us. A lot of people do not think of it as a motivator. In fact, it is the most potent motivator according to Robert Evans Wilson Jr., author of The Most Powerful Motivator. Fear is what keeps us from injuries, alive, provoke fights, and prevent us from making mistakes (Wilson, 2009). Fear as a motivator also is a pain in the ass. In the book March, there were many situations where fear was fought against to obtain equal rights. The African American fear the ongoing racism, and they turned it around and used it as a motivator. Fear is what keeps people brave; One example was at the very beginning of the book before chapter one, it showed a graphic scene of peaceful African Americans marching across a bridge. Hosea asked John, "Can you swim?" John replied, "No." Hosea replied, "Neither can I, but we might have to." The Armed police were on the other side yelling to turn around. Instead, they kneel. The cops ended up violently beating them up. In Understanding Comics, Scott talked about emotions through vibrations of the lettering style; it tells an ongoing struggle of sounds. • 72. Analysis Of The Book ' Hosea ' Essay Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing hope for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether political (5:13; 7:3–7, 8–12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), God alone is all–sufficient. The author uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God. He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people (4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital imagery between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God, who declares, "My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender" (11:8) when thinking about his beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive saga of God's unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving. As aforementioned, the writing of Hosea, begins as a well formed and tightly structured arrangement but most of the discourse are repetitive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gods instruction of marriage for Hosea is suggestive of the fact that Gomer was a prostitute because God describes her as a "promiscuous" and an "adulterous" woman. Further indication that may suggest that Gomer was a prostitute in Hosea 3:3 where Hosea says, "...you must not be a prostitute..." I believe that the woman in Hosea 3 is in fact Gomer. In these scriptures, the people of Israel are depicted as pitiless and loveless by naming the Children of Hosea and Gomer Lo–ruhamah and Lo–ammi explaining them as children of "whoredom". This imagery is seen as Israel (Gomer) as a woman who has betrayed God (Hosea) through infidelity, worshiping other Gods and procreating with other people in those religions.
