Sweet Land Character Traits
From the movie "Sweet Land", we will talk about Olaf, a Minnesotan Farmer who recently died is
to be buried on a farm. His wife Inge begins by telling her the story of when they first met and she
came to know Olaf. She starts with he is to marry a woman from Germany, but encounters many
problems from this. First he can't marry Inge, projected wife, because they can't verify her identity,
and then he is kicked out of the church for having Inge stay with him, because it wasn't "right". Then
things go from bad to worse and he ends up having to save his friends farm and eventually gains
support from the church. He eventually makes ends meet and so ends Inge's story, and they come
back to the present to bury Olaf in the fields. So with that you ... Show more content on

He typically wears jeans and a long sleeve shirt to protect from the conditions like weather and the
crops. He's not short but at the same time he's not tall either. The same goes for his looks; he's not
the best looking man and not completely unattractive. So you could say he is a typical farmer you'd
see in Minnesota.
From not being able to able to sustain eye contact with Inge to not being able to dance properly,
awkward is one of his main character traits. By far though his main one is he's respectful. He treats
Inge the way he'd treat anyone else. He respects privacy, rights, and certain personalities. But thru
the story he eventually becomes less awkward and begins to act "normal" by our means and is
becoming more and more comfortable with her.
But on the inside he is much different to say the least. He's caring man willing to do anything for the
ones he loves, family or not. When his friends' livelihood was threatened to be overtaken, he stepped
in and bought the farm for them for 7000 dollars, and that's 7000 dollars he didn't have plus if he
didn't pay that he'd also lose his farm. Then when he was going to be kicked out of the church for a
forbidden romance with Inge, he stayed with her knowing that he would not receive the
community's support and he wouldn't make enough alone to support Inge and himself; all that for
what he cares

Willy Wonka Attribution Theory
Throughout the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" Charlie believes that he has a
better shot than anyone to get the golden ticket because he wants it more than anyone else. Charlie
has the motive to approach success in this situation because he has the "capacity to experience pride
in accomplishment."(Shcunk 126). He believes that no one else in the world deserves the ticket
more than he does so that gives him the motivation to try and find it. When he does find it he
demonstrates incentive value of success, "defined as one's pride in accomplishment, by running

Reading Time Research Paper
As a child, reading was always something I loved to do. I started reading at an early age. I went to
preschool for two years, so I had an advantage when it came to reading. Once I'd gotten into
elementary school, I excelled tremendously in that area. Sitting in my kindergarten class, I'd love to
hear Mrs. Reed say, "Alright my shining stars get on the magic carpet for reading time." It was the
highlight of my day, every day. Who would've known that something as simple as reading would be
so beneficial to me later in life? Reading became one of my saving graces, as I got older. Life ,when
you're in preschool, isn't that complicated. The most stressful thing that I had to deal with was
whether I had enough crayons or if I could color inside of the lines. My mom died when I was about
three. At that time, I could read, but they were always simple books. It wasn't until later, about age
ten, that reading gave me hope. Once I was old enough to come to terms with what happened to my
mom, I started to grieve. When you're young and something traumatic happens, it takes you a while
to grieve. I started to find solace in books. They gave me the answers I longed for from the world. I
didn't want to ask anyone because I didn't want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had a hard time actually getting myself to sit down and read, but being put in so many stressful
situations, it has helped me read whenever I wasn't stressed. Now, I read every day and I don't look
at it as something I'm forcing myself to do. I love reading now, and it's starting to spread to everyone
around me. When I come home from school and I curl up with a book, my little brother has a
tendency to go get one of his books, sit with me in his bean bag chair, and read with me too. When I
go to work at a daycare, the kids always ask for reading time. They love doing their reading logs,
and they don't look at it as a requirement, they look at it as something they

A Study Into Their Feeding Preferences
The importance of bees to our agriculture merits a study into their feeding preferences. Bees
pollinate a large proportion of crops and without them there would be a rapid decline in crop
production. The connection between bee feeding preferences and flower pigmentation is examined
using Viola cornuta. Three color variations were used including dark violet, light violet, and white
flowers. Each variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals and this was repeated
in ten different trials starting at 1:00PM at Tallahassee Nursery. The trend resulting from the data
showed strongest preference for the most pigmented dark violet flowers and weakest preference for
the least pigmented white flowers. There are many factors to take ... Show more content on

On the spectral range chart for bees a large portion of their visual range is shades of blue and purple
(Riddle, 2016).
The aim of this study is to observe how color affects the feeding preferences of bees in the wild. The
spectral range of the bee suggests that bees will prefer violet colored flowers and more specifically
highly pigmented violet flowers. Due to this it is suspected that bees will prefer to feed on dark
purple colored Violas cornuta over the light purple and white varieties of Viola cornuta. It could also
occur that bees will feed equally across dark purple, light purple, and white Viola cornuta color
groups.
Methods Three pigment levels of Violas cornuta including dark violet, light violet, and white flower
variations were used. In an outdoor nursery setting the plants were studied in five by five rows of
plants and the plots were located next to each other. A total of thirty minutes was spent observing the
plants at the set time of 1:00PM. Each pigment variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute
intervals. The number of bees that land and feed on the particular variant being observed was
recorded. The mean number of bees on each pigment variation after ten observation periods was
calculated. A one–tail ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey test was used to analyze the data.
Results The total number of bees present on a color variation (dark violet, light violet, and white)
observed across ten trials is shown in Figure 1. The

The Incredibles Analysis
The Incredibles(Bird, 2004), while more progressive in its message than previous Disney projects,
fails to fully embrace progressive ideas in its characters or how they affect the story. The Incredibles
when seen through its adherence to gender roles and inability to put real influence in its female
characters removes possible story strength when given to a female audience when put in comparison
with the story structure of Frozen(Buck & Lee, 2013). In Frozen, the two most influential characters
are women and sisters in contrast to the focus being put on the patriarch of the family. Some may
look at The Incredibles as equally as progressive as Frozen given the family dynamic changes to put
a more equal weight of responsibility across gender lines, and allows the female characters to show
strength while the male characters can show weakness. When compared to Frozen, The Incredibles
does not fully embody progressive ideals. This is primarily due to the differing family dynamics in
each film and the dependence on patriarchal characters for substantive plot development in The
Incredibles. In comparing these two movies, one can clearly see that the ways these families interact
is a symptom of the progressive nature of the film with Helen doing no evolution towards
progressive ideals, and much development happening throughout the film in Frozen. After the
superheroes are outcast, Helen turns to the life of a stay at home mom, this backtracks from her
status as a powerful female

gender affects many peoples life decisions. For example, men get paid more even though women

Steal The Baudelaire The Art Of Creativity
When individuals ask about creativity, typically they have pre conceived notion of what is creativity.
Studies from Business insider claims that school are trying to limit creativity by forcing classes that
are little to no interest to students. Those who ponder the idea about what is truly creative are
individuals who can be reason with. The art of creativity is one's own perspective; what one accepts
as ludicrous other might believe to be brilliant. A ted talk by Sir Ken Robinson's proven this
statement by using a child who fidgets a lot as an example of how most saw her as ill, but actually
she's a talented dancer who later on became a prodigy in ballet. So, if schools took away her
creativity, then she wouldn't have reached her full potential. ... Show more content on

Unlike math, science, history, and physical education classes, you can fully examine your options.
The novels, A series of unfortunate event shows how three rich orphans whose parents were killed
by the antagonist due to their money. Count Olaf, the antagonist in this book series tires tirelessly to
steal the Baudelaire children's fortune. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have studied in every subject
imaginable due to their parents status, but they have never taken a course in creativity. If they had,
life threatening situation like being trapped in a hospital, or trying to escape from a slumbering
wouldn't be as challenging. The Baudelaire children are a prime example of how endless classes can
all be useless if your ability to adapt are adequate. If they even spend a fraction of their studying
time for a creative class, then their lives wouldn't always be in danger and fending for themselves in
reality would be easier. When Count Olaf trapped them inside a burning hospital, voilet didn't notice
and came up with a plan last second that almost costed her sibling their lives. If they've been taught
that a creative class, violet wouldn't have hesitated and her sibling would not have to risk their lives
while escaping. Additionally, when the Baudelaire were trying to decipher a code from their friends,
about where they are being kept prisoner when they've been captured by Count Olaf, if they had
taken a class on creativity then the code would of been a simple to them due to how its just basically
a riddle. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they've never had any prior knowledge of expanding
their mind beyond: memorizing date for a class, remembering formulas, or learning names, failure is
inevitable. When the Baudelaire parents were alive, like the rest of society that overlook the benefits
of a class that truly can teach you more than simple education. It would expand thinking to

The Bad Beginning Book Report
I have recently read A series of unfortunate events *The Bad Beginning* by Lemony Snicket and it
shows how the bond between three brother and sisters could be broken by their evil uncles greed.
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are very wealthy children, while at the beach their parents died
in a fire that had also burnt down their house. Because of this tragedy they are forced to go live with
their evil relative named Count Olaf, who is out to steal their family fortune. There are 4 main
characters that are in this book. Violet is the most important main characters because she is the
brains between her and and her siblings. She progresses a little bit through the book, but only seems
the change a bit. Her passion is inventing and the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning he enjoys reading and never seems to be sad. When he found out that his parents
died he was crushed because nothing was fun without them. He was and outer shell of his former
self. He also stop reading as much as he used to. He used to read every night for hours and at count
Olaf's he barely read and he would just go straight to bed. Sunny and Count Olaf didn't change
nearly any through the book. Sunny is very young. She just seems to enjoy chewing on different
thing through the stories. Count Olaf just seems to have one goal through the story and is very mean.
Olaf's goal is to get his hands on the Baudelaire fortune. Olaf is very mean to the children
throughout the story, he is just a big jerk. This books message is to never give up even when nobody
helps you. There is a lot of books that have the theme of never giving up but this book shines it.
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny only have each other's help throughout the book and can only make their
plans between themselves. Mr. Poe was who the parents gave control over the kids to except for the
children's guardian. Count Olaf is the three childrens legal guardian. Mr. Poe doesn't realize count
Olaf's intentions till the children's plan works and shows count Olaf's true intentions. Mr, Poe was
the Children's only help and he wouldn't help them because he wouldn't listen/trust

Eggplant is a Universally Flattering Color for Every Woman
This season, we dare you to be fearless by adding some bold pops of color to your wardrobe. This is
the perfect moment to brighten up and broaden your color pairing options since the latest trends

Of all the color trends this season, we easily fell in love with the rich, royal tones of purple, from
amethyst to plum to lavender. The new Fresh Produce Eggplant Collection celebrates the earthy
tones of this comforting vegetable, which stars in such hearty dishes as ratatouille, moussaka and
parmigiana.
Fresh Produce now carries more than 100 women's clothing items in various purple–inspired hues,
from a pinstripe vintage cardigan and comfortably stylish flutter dress in eggplant to a Boca pencil
skirt in lilac and a soothing soy candle made from lavender and thyme.

The combination of warm red and cool blue undertones in eggplant are flattering to nearly every
complexion. This shade of purple is both boisterous and soothing, giving fair skin a healthy glow
and enriching dark skin with an aura of elegance.
"Eggplant is the perfect purple because it is extremely versatile, almost like a black, dark brown or
navy," notes Leatrice Eiseman, director of the Pantone Color Institute, in an article with Real

Dewey's Identity
In this journal, I will be characterizing Klaus. I characterized him as being both intelligent and quite
knowledgeable about literature. To begin with, Klaus is quite intelligent and wise. For example,
when the Baudelaires are at the hotel they need to keep hidden, so they decide to go undercover as
concierges. Being as wise as he is, when ever Klaus would be confronted by someone he would
always respond as vaguely as possible to conceal his identity. When Frank or Ernest asked him who
he was he answered with "I'm a concierge" (Snicket 118). This shows that Klaus is a deep thinker
and he thinks before he speaks. He tried to respond as vaguely and non–suspiciously as possible. He
did this because depending on which identical–twin manager he ... Show more content on

I predict that next the Baudelaires will go to look for the sugar bowl, and while they are doing that
they will try to hide and escape the attention of Dewey's death. To begin with, one of the first things
that I predict will happen is that the Baudelaires will hide in the hotel and will try to escape the
attention of Dewey's death. In the first place, the public and visitors in the hotel went crazy after the
death of Dewey, and they are looking for the Baudelaires or any other people who might have been
involved in the death. The hotel was quite chaotic and everyone was talking about who might have
killed him. If they do not decide to hide or run away they will most likely get caught. During all of
the chaos someone shouted, "We'd better hurry downstairs, before they escape" (Snicket 242). This
shows that a mob of people have already started a search party to find the killer. From this it can be
inferred that the Baudelaires might leave the hotel or hide somewhere so they will not get caught.
The Baudelaires were apart of the death of Dewey Denouement, so the hotel guest will most likely
find them sooner or later. In addition, the Baudelaires might hide because Count Olaf has finally
found them in the hotel, and he will want to catch them. If they do not find a place to hide or
disguise sooner or later Count Olaf is bound to find them. Count Olaf is constantly trying to kidnap
the Baudelaires, and is trying to get their family fortune. Now that he knows where they are it can be
inferred that he is definitely going after them. Especially now, the Baudelaires most likely know that
Count Olaf is after them because he knows where they are, so they will most likely hide and try to
get away from him. Furthermore, the Baudelaires might decide to hide or run away because a
suspicious man came up to them and asked if they needed a taxi. This could be a quick getaway
from the hotel and the attention of the murder.

The Film : A Series Of Unfortunate Events By Lemony Snicket
Greed can destroy close connections with other individuals and it can also cause harm. There are
many obstacles in one's life that vary from complexity and may soon lead to destructive actions.
When I was first introduced to this movie titled, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket,
around the age of seven, there was something about it that seemed to capture my full attention. The
film's dark setting and dismal theme kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. As a
child, I was into video games and books. I always had my eyes on some new series or video game
that was coming out. When this game, based under the same movie, had just came out, I was
desperate to have it in my presence. As I opened the package, I was given a free pair of movie
tickets to watch Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events. At a young age like this, I was
beyond excited to watch the film. I have so many feelings towards this movie and it was nothing as I
expected it to be. The tragedies that occur throughout the events and a successful ending that
demonstrated a clear message on everything it takes to move on forward. I would say this movie
presented a positive influence on my view of the real world because of the different types of logics
that were presented throughout every event. To be able to overcome the impossible obstacles in life,
you would need to continuously push yourself through the rain or the shine.

Count Olaf Argumentative Essay
I was in the 2nd grade when I met Count Olaf. Not in person, no. Through words, I stumbled upon
the greasy, unibrowed actor. As I read book after book in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate
Events, Count Olaf came to life, and inspired to no end. Count Olaf is a distant relative of the
Baudelaire orphans. He is chasing their fortune by hatching schemes to become their guardian.
Some call him sleazy, greedy, evil. I call him determined, creative, and resourceful. He is an
instrumental figure in my life, guiding my choices and speaking to my future. He is responsible for
my path in theatre and is fueling my creativity. My motivation to do well and positive outlook on
life, start and end with Count Olaf. I learned most of what I know about acting from Count Olaf.
Ever since I read that he was the leader of an acting troupe, I have been inspired to live a life on the
stage. Count Olaf disguises himself into many different personalities. When I am playing a

Analysis Of Daniel Handler's A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Most authors tend to write their books in a cheerful way. Daniel Handler, on the other hand, writes
in a gloomy style, showing the not–so–nice things that can happen to people. For example, the three
Baudelaire orphans in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Siblings who just lose their parents in a
deadly house fire and have to deal with the trouble known as Count Olaf, a villain after their
enormous inheritance. Handler wrote the 13 books in the series under the pseudonym Lemony
Snicket. A Series of Unfortunate Events is Handler's best–known work. In the last book of the series,
the three Baudelaires are in the middle of the ocean on a boat after leaving a burning hotel where
they worked undercover. Unfortunately, the children are accompanied by Count Olaf, the man after
their money. "And the Baudelaire fortune is finally mine!" Olaf cackled "Finally, I am a very
wealthy man, which means everybody must do what I say!" Was Olaf's reaction to their predicament
even though his statement is completely false. Snicket made Count Olaf the antagonist in the story, a
manipulative villain where in his mind money equals power. He lives in his own fairytale where he
is superior. To make the Baudelaires situation worse, a storm is added to the mix showing that the
kids can never get a break, pushing their intelligence and strength. The storm led the Baudelaires
and Olaf to an island of strange customs. "But the Baudelaires could not help but feel that they were

Violet Baudelaire is fourteen and in what Piaget would call the formal operational stage meaning

would have inevitably worked if she didn't get caught by a henchman. Klaus Baudelaire is twelve
years of age and, like his older sister, is also in the formal operational stage. He acts much older than

gained morals and fights along side Violet to counteract Count Olaf and his unjust rules and horrible
acts he commits towards the children, especially the youngest Sunny. Sunny is only listed as in
infant in the book, but she is clearly in the sensorimotor stage. Her world consists of experiences via
her senses and actions. One of her main characteristics that was brought up in the book was how
much she enjoys biting things and people. This places her in the oral psychosexual stage, meaning
she gains pleasure through biting things, like most little kids do. She doesn't show many signs of
previous attachment to her parents considering it

Golden Stereotypes
Someone found the fourth golden ticket out of the six, and I don't care at all. Okay, I do care, but it

August Glop or whatever his name is, seems to be extremely gluttonous. His whole family consists
of gourmands. They eat far too much. One of them even ate the reporter's microphone! It's horrific,
seeing how our world is shaping up to be. The poor kid resembles childhood obesity. Actually, he's
not that poor. He chose to be this way, he can be this way. Verona Salt (I think), the second golden

Count Olaf In The Bad Beginning
Count Olaf is known to be a dangerous criminal in the book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events.
His main target is the Baudelaire orphans, who were left extremely wealthy after the passing of their
parents, and Olaf has shown throughout the books that he is willing to do anything to get their
money. In the work The Bad Beginning, the author Lemony Snicket uses the character Count Olaf to
show that being greedy can get you into trouble and villainous acts can sometimes bring people
together.
Count Olaf's selfish need for money got him into trouble. For instance, when Olaf kidnapped Sunny
to blackmail Violet into marrying him so he could have control of her wealth, his plan was foiled

Psychological Terror In Lemony Snicket's A Series Of...
Everyone has something that scares them, that is frightening more than blood or violence. More
often than not many people are frightened by a physiological thriller rather than one which is simply
all gore. Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events, is exactly that, a psychological terror that
is centered around a series of probable unfortunate events. Although, this movie may be lined with
satirical comedy, it's main storyline is rather gothic in nature. The gothic nature of this movie is
developed by its realism in its villain, plot line, and characters. Lemony Snicket's A Series of
Unfortunate Events, is about three young children whose parents died unexpectedly in a house fire,
leaving them orphaned. The three children are left to their closest relative, Count Olaf, a narcissistic
struggling actor who is a horribly unsuitable parent. It is made apparent early on that Count Olaf is
only after the Baudelaire children's inheritance. He quickly figures out he has no access to the
money, and neither do the children, until Violet the oldest turns 18, or the children die. The entire
movie is based around Count Olaf's many attempts to claim the money. For example; marrying
Violet, killing off a distant relative, leaving the children locked in a car on train tracks, ect. Count
Olaf's first play at the money, is forcing Violet to marry him by holding, Sunny hostage until after
the wedding. He disguises the wedding as a play and cons a judge into officiating the wedding.

There are many stories of Olaf told by the people from his village. There is a story about Olaf
defeating a dragon in face–to–face combat to protect his village or him racing down a mountain of
lava. But this is the story of how Olaf got his shield. Long time ago, Olaf was a simple shepherd,
living in the mountains above his village. He was very well known for being the kindest man anyone
had ever met. He always had a smile on his face. Tales about him say he could chop down trees with
his bare hands, and that strength was useful while helping others. Every time someone was in

from deep within the vault. He had a giant club, about the size of a tree. The troll charged like a
frantic bull. Olaf wasn't worried, he stood his ground and put the little boy behind. The troll bashed
Olaf with his club, but Olaf did not shift from his position. The troll was big and strong, but he was

As Olaf cut his way through the mountain, he had weakened the structure, and now it was caving in.

Color as Metaphor in Film What Dreams May Come
Looking at landscape art, especially when painted by one of the masters, many have undoubtedly
pondered: what would it be like to live there? Shapes and attention to detail are, of course, important
in a painting. However, it is color that draws the eye and inspires the heart. Oscar Wilde, an Irish
poet and dramatist, spoke well of this when he noted that, "Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and
unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. (qtd in "color")".
Vincent Ward had a similar understanding of this impact when, in 1998, he directed the movie What
Dreams May Come. Looking at this film, one can easily imagine being inside a living painting. The
use of color to emphasize the emotional state of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

half of her soul gone, she finds this to daunting of a task. Sitting at her vanity, wearing a very pale
lavender gown, she chooses to end her life. She places several crushed pills into a bowl of pudding,

is weak; it is the weakness of her connection with Chris that drives her to make this fatal choice.
After learning of Annie's suicide and the self induced hell she will face, Chris makes the decision to

version of his and Annie's house. Everything that can be seen in this purgatory looks as if the color
has been drained by a leech. Black, gray, dirty yellows and sepia like tones abound in all directions,
except for a single tree, which stands in front of the door to the house. This one tree, standing in

Disadvantages Of Food Dyes
Introduction Color additives are added to almost everything, from toothpaste to medicines. They are
also added to food and drink to make it appear more appealing to consumers. However, when used
improperly, food dyes can be dangerous. As a result, the use of color additives is highly regulated by
the FDA–the Food and Drug Administration–in the Unites States.1 Food dyes are controlled so
harshly because their structure is similar to that of some of the bases found in human DNA, and the
dye could possibly cause a change a DNA base pair. A mutation is a change in a small part of the
DNA sequence of a cell which can then replicate, spreading the mutation. Mutations often lead to
various diseases such as cancer. 2 The FDA will only approve the use of a color additive if they are
certain beyond a reasonable doubt that the dye is safe, but the safety of the dye can never be proven
entirely. For example, the dye yellow 5 is used in food, cosmetics, and medicines.3 However, some
people will have an allergic reaction to this product despite it being deemed safe to use. For this
reason, the FDA also requires that any companies using a color additive in their products must list it
on the label so that people sensitive to the substance can avoid it. 1
Despite any potential health concerns people may have, food dyes play an important role in the
consumer market place. Buyers expect certain things out of their food. For example, it stands to
reason that a grape flavored beverage is purple

Lemony Snicket portrays the greed and cruelty of humans with the help of various unfortunate

The first weakness is some of the actions that is in the book is not really truthful. For example, in
chapter 10, Violet just used a simple invention and climbed up to the tall tower, the most difficult
part is to hook to the tower, and I think the hook is not strong enough to carry a person. The second
weakness is the story may not fit the readers that are above 25 years old because the book is too easy
for them, they might feel boring when they are reading this book. In this book, everything seems
perfect, however, I believe the book still have some parts that did not work really well in the book.
For example, the way that Count Olaf escape is like action movie's segment, I think it does not suit
this book. The book could be done better at make the story more realistic because even though the
story is not real, but the main idea of the novel is not science fiction or action fiction. Next, the
novel did not explain some details such as why Count Olaf's house has many eye drawing and why

Analysis Of Lemony Snicket 's Series Of Unfortunate Events
Reader Response
I first read Lemony Snicket's 'Series of Unfortunate Events' when I was 10 years old. Having little
patience, I planned to just skim through but found myself immediately immersed in the story and the
writing style. The author uses clever techniques to appeal to both children and older readers, which
allowed me to remain engaged with the text. Snicket warns that, "if you are interested in books with
happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book." I found myself attracted to the
gothic elements and darker nature of the text. I found it to be uniquely different to the traditional
fairy tales with a cliché "happily ever after". A Series of Unfortunate Events has no typical "happily
ever after," but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a child, I often felt frustrated that adults would not always take me seriously. I felt empowered by
the idea that perhaps I too was capable of solving my own problems as a self–reliant and
independent being.
Snicket is a clever and humorous narrator. He assists the reader with more advanced words,
explaining them in their given context. As a young reader, this was very educational and helpful and
allowed me to further understand and enjoy the series. As an older reader, I came to realise that he
did this in a comedic way. For example, Snicket writes, "It is now necessary for me to use the rather
hackneyed phrase "meanwhile, back at the ranch." The word "hackneyed" here means "used by so,
so many writers that by the time Lemony Snicket uses it, it is a tiresome cliché." Snicket also
introduces children to important concepts and ideas. He notes, "your initial opinion of things may
change over time," and "the children knew, as I'm sure you know, that the worst surroundings can be
tolerated if the people in them are interesting and kind." He also addressed more serious issues,
acting as a moral guide, but ensured these issues were not too overwhelming by maintaining a sense
of humour. He writes, "stealing is not excusable if, for instance, you are in a museum and you
decide that a certain painting would look better in your house... But if you were very very hungry,
and you had no way of obtaining money, it might be excusable to grab the painting, take it

"Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire were intelligent children, and they were charming, and

This story takes place at Count Olaf's house and at the Briny Beach were Baudelaire children

and liked to invent things, she had black hair with a purple ribbon and would put up her hair when
she was going to invent something. Klaus was the middle child and loved to read and was very

Torture In Count Olaf's The Baudelaire Children
In this novel, the Baudelaire children each face the possibility of either death, sexual assault, or
torture. Count Olaf demonstrates paedophilic behaviours towards Violet by attempting to marry her
in order to gain access to their fortune that their parents have left for them in their will. When Count
Olaf confronts her with this unfavourable situation, he strokes Violet's hair (Snicket 94). Violet
realizes that agreeing to marry this predatory man entails maintaining traditional gender roles. She
"imagines sleeping beside Count Olaf, and waking up each morning to look at [him]. She pictured
wandering around the house [...] and cooking for his terrible friends at night" (94). Not only does
this passage entail possibilities of non–consensual sex between Count Olaf and Violet, but also
encompasses torture of Violet, since she is no longer able to follow her dreams of becoming an
inventor. These themes of sexual assault, lack of consent, and being forced into gender roles can be

Klaus that "the only reason Count Olaf hasn't torn [him] limb from limb is that he hasn't gotten a
hold of [his] money" (78). Klaus has more reason to believe these threats of death due to the fact
that Count Olaf has already demonstrated his lack of inhibition to act violently towards children.
The depiction of violence towards children and the extremely gruesome and possibly credible death
threats may be troubling for younger

Sweet Land Character Traits

  • 1. Sweet Land Character Traits From the movie "Sweet Land", we will talk about Olaf, a Minnesotan Farmer who recently died is to be buried on a farm. His wife Inge begins by telling her the story of when they first met and she came to know Olaf. She starts with he is to marry a woman from Germany, but encounters many problems from this. First he can't marry Inge, projected wife, because they can't verify her identity, and then he is kicked out of the church for having Inge stay with him, because it wasn't "right". Then things go from bad to worse and he ends up having to save his friends farm and eventually gains support from the church. He eventually makes ends meet and so ends Inge's story, and they come back to the present to bury Olaf in the fields. So with that you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He typically wears jeans and a long sleeve shirt to protect from the conditions like weather and the crops. He's not short but at the same time he's not tall either. The same goes for his looks; he's not the best looking man and not completely unattractive. So you could say he is a typical farmer you'd see in Minnesota. From not being able to able to sustain eye contact with Inge to not being able to dance properly, awkward is one of his main character traits. By far though his main one is he's respectful. He treats Inge the way he'd treat anyone else. He respects privacy, rights, and certain personalities. But thru the story he eventually becomes less awkward and begins to act "normal" by our means and is becoming more and more comfortable with her. But on the inside he is much different to say the least. He's caring man willing to do anything for the ones he loves, family or not. When his friends' livelihood was threatened to be overtaken, he stepped in and bought the farm for them for 7000 dollars, and that's 7000 dollars he didn't have plus if he didn't pay that he'd also lose his farm. Then when he was going to be kicked out of the church for a forbidden romance with Inge, he stayed with her knowing that he would not receive the community's support and he wouldn't make enough alone to support Inge and himself; all that for what he cares ... Willy Wonka Attribution Theory Throughout the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" Charlie believes that he has a better shot than anyone to get the golden ticket because he wants it more than anyone else. Charlie has the motive to approach success in this situation because he has the "capacity to experience pride in accomplishment."(Shcunk 126). He believes that no one else in the world deserves the ticket more than he does so that gives him the motivation to try and find it. • 5. Reading Time Research Paper As a child, reading was always something I loved to do. I started reading at an early age. I went to preschool for two years, so I had an advantage when it came to reading. Once I'd gotten into elementary school, I excelled tremendously in that area. Sitting in my kindergarten class, I'd love to hear Mrs. Reed say, "Alright my shining stars get on the magic carpet for reading time." It was the highlight of my day, every day. Who would've known that something as simple as reading would be so beneficial to me later in life? Reading became one of my saving graces, as I got older. Life ,when you're in preschool, isn't that complicated. The most stressful thing that I had to deal with was whether I had enough crayons or if I could color inside of the lines. My mom died when I was about three. At that time, I could read, but they were always simple books. It wasn't until later, about age ten, that reading gave me hope. Once I was old enough to come to terms with what happened to my mom, I started to grieve. When you're young and something traumatic happens, it takes you a while to grieve. I started to find solace in books. They gave me the answers I longed for from the world. I didn't want to ask anyone because I didn't want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had a hard time actually getting myself to sit down and read, but being put in so many stressful situations, it has helped me read whenever I wasn't stressed. Now, I read every day and I don't look at it as something I'm forcing myself to do. I love reading now, and it's starting to spread to everyone around me. When I come home from school and I curl up with a book, my little brother has a tendency to go get one of his books, sit with me in his bean bag chair, and read with me too. When I go to work at a daycare, the kids always ask for reading time. They love doing their reading logs, and they don't look at it as a requirement, they look at it as something they ... • 9. A Study Into Their Feeding Preferences The importance of bees to our agriculture merits a study into their feeding preferences. Bees pollinate a large proportion of crops and without them there would be a rapid decline in crop production. The connection between bee feeding preferences and flower pigmentation is examined using Viola cornuta. Three color variations were used including dark violet, light violet, and white flowers. Each variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals and this was repeated in ten different trials starting at 1:00PM at Tallahassee Nursery. The trend resulting from the data showed strongest preference for the most pigmented dark violet flowers and weakest preference for the least pigmented white flowers. There are many factors to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the spectral range chart for bees a large portion of their visual range is shades of blue and purple (Riddle, 2016). The aim of this study is to observe how color affects the feeding preferences of bees in the wild. The spectral range of the bee suggests that bees will prefer violet colored flowers and more specifically highly pigmented violet flowers. Due to this it is suspected that bees will prefer to feed on dark purple colored Violas cornuta over the light purple and white varieties of Viola cornuta. It could also occur that bees will feed equally across dark purple, light purple, and white Viola cornuta color groups. Methods Three pigment levels of Violas cornuta including dark violet, light violet, and white flower variations were used. In an outdoor nursery setting the plants were studied in five by five rows of plants and the plots were located next to each other. A total of thirty minutes was spent observing the plants at the set time of 1:00PM. Each pigment variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals. The number of bees that land and feed on the particular variant being observed was recorded. The mean number of bees on each pigment variation after ten observation periods was calculated. A one–tail ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey test was used to analyze the data. Results The total number of bees present on a color variation (dark violet, light violet, and white) observed across ten trials is shown in Figure 1. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Incredibles Analysis The Incredibles(Bird, 2004), while more progressive in its message than previous Disney projects, fails to fully embrace progressive ideas in its characters or how they affect the story. The Incredibles when seen through its adherence to gender roles and inability to put real influence in its female characters removes possible story strength when given to a female audience when put in comparison with the story structure of Frozen(Buck & Lee, 2013). In Frozen, the two most influential characters are women and sisters in contrast to the focus being put on the patriarch of the family. Some may look at The Incredibles as equally as progressive as Frozen given the family dynamic changes to put a more equal weight of responsibility across gender lines, and allows the female characters to show strength while the male characters can show weakness. When compared to Frozen, The Incredibles does not fully embody progressive ideals. This is primarily due to the differing family dynamics in each film and the dependence on patriarchal characters for substantive plot development in The Incredibles. In comparing these two movies, one can clearly see that the ways these families interact is a symptom of the progressive nature of the film with Helen doing no evolution towards progressive ideals, and much development happening throughout the film in Frozen. After the superheroes are outcast, Helen turns to the life of a stay at home mom, this backtracks from her status as a powerful female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Steal The Baudelaire The Art Of Creativity When individuals ask about creativity, typically they have pre conceived notion of what is creativity. Studies from Business insider claims that school are trying to limit creativity by forcing classes that are little to no interest to students. Those who ponder the idea about what is truly creative are individuals who can be reason with. The art of creativity is one's own perspective; what one accepts as ludicrous other might believe to be brilliant. A ted talk by Sir Ken Robinson's proven this statement by using a child who fidgets a lot as an example of how most saw her as ill, but actually she's a talented dancer who later on became a prodigy in ballet. So, if schools took away her creativity, then she wouldn't have reached her full potential. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike math, science, history, and physical education classes, you can fully examine your options. The novels, A series of unfortunate event shows how three rich orphans whose parents were killed by the antagonist due to their money. Count Olaf, the antagonist in this book series tires tirelessly to steal the Baudelaire children's fortune. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have studied in every subject imaginable due to their parents status, but they have never taken a course in creativity. If they had, life threatening situation like being trapped in a hospital, or trying to escape from a slumbering wouldn't be as challenging. The Baudelaire children are a prime example of how endless classes can all be useless if your ability to adapt are adequate. If they even spend a fraction of their studying time for a creative class, then their lives wouldn't always be in danger and fending for themselves in reality would be easier. When Count Olaf trapped them inside a burning hospital, voilet didn't notice and came up with a plan last second that almost costed her sibling their lives. If they've been taught that a creative class, violet wouldn't have hesitated and her sibling would not have to risk their lives while escaping. Additionally, when the Baudelaire were trying to decipher a code from their friends, about where they are being kept prisoner when they've been captured by Count Olaf, if they had taken a class on creativity then the code would of been a simple to them due to how its just basically a riddle. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they've never had any prior knowledge of expanding their mind beyond: memorizing date for a class, remembering formulas, or learning names, failure is inevitable. When the Baudelaire parents were alive, like the rest of society that overlook the benefits of a class that truly can teach you more than simple education. It would expand thinking to ... She just seems to enjoy chewing on different thing through the stories. Count Olaf just seems to have one goal through the story and is very mean. Olaf's goal is to get his hands on the Baudelaire fortune. Olaf is very mean to the children throughout the story, he is just a big jerk. The story A Series of Unfortunate Events The Bad Beginning Lemony Snicket uses characterization, mood, and to tell how the three Baudelaire's don't get tricked by Count Olaf's greedy plan to get money. To start off, Lemony Snicket uses characterization to explain how the characters look. For example on page 2–3 "Violet Baudelaire, the eldest, fourteen years old, Klaus Baudelaire, the middle child and only boy, he was intelligent being only twelve, Sunny Baudelaire, the youngest, liked to bite things She was an infant and very small for her age." • 23. Dewey's Identity In this journal, I will be characterizing Klaus. I characterized him as being both intelligent and quite knowledgeable about literature. To begin with, Klaus is quite intelligent and wise. For example, when the Baudelaires are at the hotel they need to keep hidden, so they decide to go undercover as concierges. Being as wise as he is, when ever Klaus would be confronted by someone he would always respond as vaguely as possible to conceal his identity. When Frank or Ernest asked him who he was he answered with "I'm a concierge" (Snicket 118). This shows that Klaus is a deep thinker and he thinks before he speaks. He tried to respond as vaguely and non–suspiciously as possible. He did this because depending on which identical–twin manager he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I predict that next the Baudelaires will go to look for the sugar bowl, and while they are doing that they will try to hide and escape the attention of Dewey's death. To begin with, one of the first things that I predict will happen is that the Baudelaires will hide in the hotel and will try to escape the attention of Dewey's death. In the first place, the public and visitors in the hotel went crazy after the death of Dewey, and they are looking for the Baudelaires or any other people who might have been involved in the death. The hotel was quite chaotic and everyone was talking about who might have killed him. If they do not decide to hide or run away they will most likely get caught. During all of the chaos someone shouted, "We'd better hurry downstairs, before they escape" (Snicket 242). This shows that a mob of people have already started a search party to find the killer. From this it can be inferred that the Baudelaires might leave the hotel or hide somewhere so they will not get caught. The Baudelaires were apart of the death of Dewey Denouement, so the hotel guest will most likely find them sooner or later. In addition, the Baudelaires might hide because Count Olaf has finally found them in the hotel, and he will want to catch them. If they do not find a place to hide or disguise sooner or later Count Olaf is bound to find them. Count Olaf is constantly trying to kidnap the Baudelaires, and is trying to get their family fortune. Now that he knows where they are it can be inferred that he is definitely going after them. Especially now, the Baudelaires most likely know that Count Olaf is after them because he knows where they are, so they will most likely hide and try to get away from him. Furthermore, the Baudelaires might decide to hide or run away because a suspicious man came up to them and asked if they needed a taxi. This could be a quick getaway from the hotel and the attention of the murder. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Film : A Series Of Unfortunate Events By Lemony Snicket Greed can destroy close connections with other individuals and it can also cause harm. There are many obstacles in one's life that vary from complexity and may soon lead to destructive actions. When I was first introduced to this movie titled, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, around the age of seven, there was something about it that seemed to capture my full attention. The film's dark setting and dismal theme kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. As a child, I was into video games and books. I always had my eyes on some new series or video game that was coming out. When this game, based under the same movie, had just came out, I was desperate to have it in my presence. As I opened the package, I was given a free pair of movie tickets to watch Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events. At a young age like this, I was beyond excited to watch the film. I have so many feelings towards this movie and it was nothing as I expected it to be. The tragedies that occur throughout the events and a successful ending that demonstrated a clear message on everything it takes to move on forward. I would say this movie presented a positive influence on my view of the real world because of the different types of logics that were presented throughout every event. To be able to overcome the impossible obstacles in life, you would need to continuously push yourself through the rain or the shine. In the real world, it takes a great deal of bravery and ... • 31. Count Olaf Argumentative Essay I was in the 2nd grade when I met Count Olaf. Not in person, no. Through words, I stumbled upon the greasy, unibrowed actor. As I read book after book in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Count Olaf came to life, and inspired to no end. Count Olaf is a distant relative of the Baudelaire orphans. He is chasing their fortune by hatching schemes to become their guardian. Some call him sleazy, greedy, evil. I call him determined, creative, and resourceful. He is an instrumental figure in my life, guiding my choices and speaking to my future. He is responsible for my path in theatre and is fueling my creativity. My motivation to do well and positive outlook on life, start and end with Count Olaf. I learned most of what I know about acting from Count Olaf. Ever since I read that he was the leader of an acting troupe, I have been inspired to live a life on the stage. Count Olaf disguises himself into many different personalities. • 33. Analysis Of Daniel Handler's A Series Of Unfortunate Events Most authors tend to write their books in a cheerful way. Daniel Handler, on the other hand, writes in a gloomy style, showing the not–so–nice things that can happen to people. For example, the three Baudelaire orphans in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Siblings who just lose their parents in a deadly house fire and have to deal with the trouble known as Count Olaf, a villain after their enormous inheritance. Handler wrote the 13 books in the series under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket. A Series of Unfortunate Events is Handler's best–known work. In the last book of the series, the three Baudelaires are in the middle of the ocean on a boat after leaving a burning hotel where they worked undercover. Unfortunately, the children are accompanied by Count Olaf, the man after their money. "And the Baudelaire fortune is finally mine!" Olaf cackled "Finally, I am a very wealthy man, which means everybody must do what I say!" Was Olaf's reaction to their predicament even though his statement is completely false. Snicket made Count Olaf the antagonist in the story, a manipulative villain where in his mind money equals power. He lives in his own fairytale where he is superior. To make the Baudelaires situation worse, a storm is added to the mix showing that the kids can never get a break, pushing their intelligence and strength. The storm led the Baudelaires and Olaf to an island of strange customs. "But the Baudelaires could not help but feel that they were abandoning their previous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She most definitely excels at abstract thinking, as Violet creates many useful inventions throughout the book and has no problem getting past functional fixedness. In order to attempt to save Sunny she creates the grappling hook, which would have inevitably worked if she didn't get caught by a henchman. Klaus Baudelaire is twelve years of age and, like his older sister, is also in the formal operational stage. He acts much older than his age, as he has good morals and abstract thinking. Klaus is the one who realizes that if Violet participates in Count Olaf's play, then she will be legally wed to him. As well as thinking, he has gained morals and fights along side Violet to counteract Count Olaf and his unjust rules and horrible acts he commits towards the children, especially the youngest Sunny. Sunny is only listed as in infant in the book, but she is clearly in the sensorimotor stage. Her world consists of experiences via her senses and actions. One of her main characteristics that was brought up in the book was how much she enjoys biting things and people. More often than not many people are frightened by a physiological thriller rather than one which is simply all gore. Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events, is exactly that, a psychological terror that is centered around a series of probable unfortunate events. Although, this movie may be lined with satirical comedy, it's main storyline is rather gothic in nature. The gothic nature of this movie is developed by its realism in its villain, plot line, and characters. Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, is about three young children whose parents died unexpectedly in a house fire, leaving them orphaned. The three children are left to their closest relative, Count Olaf, a narcissistic struggling actor who is a horribly unsuitable parent. It is made apparent early on that Count Olaf is only after the Baudelaire children's inheritance. He quickly figures out he has no access to the money, and neither do the children, until Violet the oldest turns 18, or the children die. The entire movie is based around Count Olaf's many attempts to claim the money. For example; marrying Violet, killing off a distant relative, leaving the children locked in a car on train tracks, ect. Count Olaf's first play at the money, is forcing Violet to marry him by holding, Sunny hostage until after the wedding. Shapes and attention to detail are, of course, important in a painting. However, it is color that draws the eye and inspires the heart. Oscar Wilde, an Irish poet and dramatist, spoke well of this when he noted that, "Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. • 59. Disadvantages Of Food Dyes Introduction Color additives are added to almost everything, from toothpaste to medicines. They are also added to food and drink to make it appear more appealing to consumers. However, when used improperly, food dyes can be dangerous. As a result, the use of color additives is highly regulated by the FDA–the Food and Drug Administration–in the Unites States.1 Food dyes are controlled so harshly because their structure is similar to that of some of the bases found in human DNA, and the dye could possibly cause a change a DNA base pair. A mutation is a change in a small part of the DNA sequence of a cell which can then replicate, spreading the mutation. Mutations often lead to various diseases such as cancer. 2 The FDA will only approve the use of a color additive if they are certain beyond a reasonable doubt that the dye is safe, but the safety of the dye can never be proven entirely. For example, the dye yellow 5 is used in food, cosmetics, and medicines.3 However, some people will have an allergic reaction to this product despite it being deemed safe to use. For this reason, the FDA also requires that any companies using a color additive in their products must list it on the label so that people sensitive to the substance can avoid it. 1 Despite any potential health concerns people may have, food dyes play an important role in the consumer market place. Buyers expect certain things out of their food. For example, it stands to reason that a grape flavored beverage is purple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Book Review: Lemony Snicker, By Daniel Handler Kanishk Kaushik Kanika Dang English Literature Thesis 6th November, 2015 Lemony Snicket portrays the greed and cruelty of humans with the help of various unfortunate events narrating the ill dead throughout the book. Many story books are written with a happy ending, where everything seems to be perfect. That's not how life is; life is filled with hardship, sorrow, pain, cruel people and unfortunate events. Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket's book a series of unfortunate depicts how life really is. As a child Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket) was born in San Francisco, California. Handler had al–ways been a voracious reader since childhood, and his favourite author was William Keepers Maxwell, Jr. Handler starts the book in a very unusual tone. Instead of encouraging the person to read the en–tire story Handler says 'If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. In this book, not only is there a happy ending, there is no happy be– ginning and very few happy things happen in the middle.' He further continues the story by in– troducing the protagonists of this book Violet Baudelaire. The eldest sibling had a real knack for inventing and building strange devices. The first weakness is some of the actions that is in the book is not really truthful. For example, in chapter 10, Violet just used a simple invention and climbed up to the tall tower, the most difficult part is to hook to the tower, and I think the hook is not strong enough to carry a person. The second weakness is the story may not fit the readers that are above 25 years old because the book is too easy for them, they might feel boring when they are reading this book. In this book, everything seems perfect, however, I believe the book still have some parts that did not work really well in the book. For example, the way that Count Olaf escape is like action movie's segment, I think it does not suit this book. The book could be done better at make the story more realistic because even though the story is not real, but the main idea of the novel is not science fiction or action fiction. Next, the novel did not explain some details such as why Count Olaf's house has many eye drawing and why Count Olaf's ankle have an eye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Analysis Of Lemony Snicket 's Series Of Unfortunate Events Reader Response I first read Lemony Snicket's 'Series of Unfortunate Events' when I was 10 years old. Having little patience, I planned to just skim through but found myself immediately immersed in the story and the writing style. The author uses clever techniques to appeal to both children and older readers, which allowed me to remain engaged with the text. Snicket warns that, "if you are interested in books with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book." I found myself attracted to the gothic elements and darker nature of the text. I found it to be uniquely different to the traditional fairy tales with a cliché "happily ever after". A Series of Unfortunate Events has no typical "happily ever after," but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a child, I often felt frustrated that adults would not always take me seriously. I felt empowered by the idea that perhaps I too was capable of solving my own problems as a self–reliant and independent being. Snicket is a clever and humorous narrator. He assists the reader with more advanced words, explaining them in their given context. As a young reader, this was very educational and helpful and allowed me to further understand and enjoy the series. As an older reader, I came to realise that he did this in a comedic way. For example, Snicket writes, "It is now necessary for me to use the rather hackneyed phrase "meanwhile, back at the ranch." The word "hackneyed" here means "used by so, so many writers that by the time Lemony Snicket uses it, it is a tiresome cliché." Snicket also introduces children to important concepts and ideas. He notes, "your initial opinion of things may change over time," and "the children knew, as I'm sure you know, that the worst surroundings can be tolerated if the people in them are interesting and kind." He also addressed more serious issues, acting as a moral guide, but ensured these issues were not too overwhelming by maintaining a sense of humour. He writes, "stealing is not excusable if, for instance, you are in a museum and you decide that a certain painting would look better in your house... But if you were very very hungry, and you had no way of obtaining money, it might be excusable to grab the painting, take it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Torture In Count Olaf's The Baudelaire Children In this novel, the Baudelaire children each face the possibility of either death, sexual assault, or torture. Count Olaf demonstrates paedophilic behaviours towards Violet by attempting to marry her in order to gain access to their fortune that their parents have left for them in their will. When Count Olaf confronts her with this unfavourable situation, he strokes Violet's hair (Snicket 94). Violet realizes that agreeing to marry this predatory man entails maintaining traditional gender roles. She "imagines sleeping beside Count Olaf, and waking up each morning to look at [him]. She pictured wandering around the house [...] and cooking for his terrible friends at night" (94). Not only does this passage entail possibilities of non–consensual sex between Count Olaf and Violet, but also encompasses torture of Violet, since she is no longer able to follow her dreams of becoming an inventor. These themes of sexual assault, lack of consent, and being forced into gender roles can be very traumatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Klaus receives rather gruesome death threats from other members of the theatre troupe. While attempting to do research into Count Olaf's plan, the member of the troupe with the hook hands tells Klaus that "the only reason Count Olaf hasn't torn [him] limb from limb is that he hasn't gotten a hold of [his] money" (78).
