2. KITCHEN/HALLWAY
The kitchen was used for several scenes
in our film, for example breakfast time with
Sarah and Laila, Sarah alone and Sarah
and Pishdaad discussing rules before they
head upstairs. This certain location helps
make the class of the family obvious as
the home is a portrayed as a middle class
home, with the huge, structured kitchen,
emphasising the character Sarah when
she returns downstairs to answer the door
to Kamil, dressed provocatively, an
unexpected portrayal from a mother.
Similarly with the hallway; we saw
numerous times when welcoming or
saying bye to characters in the house and
film.
3. STAIRS
These images show the two main
shots we used when filming our short
film, throughout the film the stairs
helped create tension and suspense at
key areas, making the audience
question what is going to happen next.
Additionally, the stairs also helped with
the continuity of our film with there
needing to be several graphic matches
to occur in order for the film to run
smoothly.
4. BEDROOM
With the bedroom, we made sure that
the audience knew that Sarah was a
single parent, therefore we made the
bedroom look quite ‘lady-like’ with the
use of purple and cream colours, a
traditional dressing table and many other
items only a women would need.
These images show a range of camera
angles that we used within the bedroom
to help create the right feel and mood for
the scene. Additionally, with the first
image it helps create the feel of
suspense with the audience not knowing
what was going to happen next due to
the door being slightly ajar.
5. BEDROOM/OUTSIDE
The first image of this page is showing
the penultimate shot of the film, where
the audience will see Laila going into her
mums room, but what will she see?
On the other hand the rest of these
images are of outside the main location;
one being the front door, where both
Pishdaad and Ben wait to greet Sarah.
The other image being of a doormat that
reads “Home is where the heart is”
which was particularly suitable for our
film, due to it creating a homely and
warm affect on the film and the
characters. However the mat first
appears in the film when we see Kamil
returning home from a business trip, but
what events will occur next?
6. SUMMARY
All of the images above show some of the noteworthy shots and rooms we
will be using in our film, it was important for us to think about which
shots we wanted to use in order for us to visualise how our film would
work out. Similarly; it gave us the chance to sketch out the shots onto
our storyboards which will have a considerable impact on us when we
film because we will know what shots we need in each scene, for
instance the various bedroom shots help us work out how we are
going to create tension and how we are going to keep the audience
intrigued as to what is going to occur.
