• Stone Mountain is the largest high relief sculpture in the world or been know as the
Confederate Memorial Carving.
• Depicts three Confederate heroes of the Civil War, President Jefferson Davis,
Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.
• Main idea: history of Stone Mountain and how it changes to a recreation park.
3. History Of Stone Mountain
• Stone Mountain owned by the Venable Brothers and was the site of
the founding of the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915.
• The mountain was a symbol of confederation.
• 1912 Mrs. C. Helen Plane had an idea to crave the mountain.
4. History Of Stone Mountain
• Gutzon Borglum was commissioned to do the carving.
• The Second person who assigned to crave the mountain was Augustus Lukeman till 1928.
• Walker Hancock was selected to complete the carving, and work began in 1964.
• Governor of Georgia, Marvin Griffin decided to purchase Stone Mountain in 1958.
• Walker Hancock was selected to complete the carving in 1972.
5. Recreation Park
• The Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation currently has a long-term
contract to operate park attractions.
• On summer evenings the mountain hosts the Stone Mountain Laser Show
Spectacular, a fireworks and laser light display.
