Jackals live in grasslands across Asia, Africa, and southern Europe. They hunt by scavenging uneaten animals left behind by larger predators. As carnivores, they eat any animal smaller than themselves, primarily dead animals found on roadsides. Jackals come in different sizes, from 7-24 pounds, and varieties include the golden fur jackal of Europe and Africa, and the black backed and side striped jackals of Africa.
