1. Choosing Ceremony “50”This year’s 50th anniversary
of the Choosing Ceremony was
another success. All of the
sixteen year old dependents
entered the building excited
and anxious about choosing
their faction.
This year the Choosing
Ceremony was conducted by
Abnegation and hosted by
political leader Marcus.
Marcus reminded us about
our ancestors decades ago who
divided into factions in order to
eliminate the qualities they
believed responsible for the
world at war.
Eurdite reporters noticed
several dependents holding
hands and hugging their
parents before they chose.
One by one Marcus called
up the initiates who walked to
the centre of the three circles,
accepted the knife and chose
their new faction by sprinkling
blood into one of the bowls.
The room was constantly
moving. As dependents
transferred factions you could
hear mutters rise in the room.
It was good to see so many
transfers choose Eurdite.
After all the dependents
chose, they were lead out of the
building with these lasts words
of advice from Marcus, “In our
factions, we find meaning, we
find purpose, we find life.”

toward a better society and a better world.” Marcus,

AUTHOR VISITS AREA SCHOOL
Veronica Roth spends time with local students

Elementary School on Thursday. Photograph: Chris Field
Roth was very excited to
meet Mrs. Mathews’ grade 7
students who are studying her
novel. The class had many
questions for her.
Wilson Rigney asked “What
faction would you be part of?”
“When I was young, I think I
would have been Amity but
after writing about a heroine
that faces her fears I think I
would be Divergent”, Roth
responded.
The students were surprised
to hear Roth talk about her
struggle with anxiety and how
writing was therapeutic for her.
She was proud to admit that
each day is a struggle;
especially with all of the
attention from the success of
her books. "Your brain can
have a condition, just like your
stomach or your pancreas.
Doing what's necessary to treat
that condition is a good thing."
Nottawa Elementary School
was the scene of futuristic
Chicago today when Veronica
Roth paid a visit. The 25 year
old author was there to promote
“The Divergent Series” of
books. The first book in the
series “Divergent” has been on
the New York Times Best
Sellers List for 23 weeks now
and the movie has made clear
over 12 million dollars in just
four weeks.
Roth told the students of
Nottawa that she is a graduate
of Northwestern University’s
creative writing program. She
also spoke about the
importance of creative writing
and doing homework despite
the fact that she spent most of
her time working on the story
that she titled “Divergent”
instead of doing her homework.
3. STABBING AT DAUNTLESS COMPOUND
Initiate Stabbed in the Eye
Erudite investigators has just discovered that sixteen year
old Edward Clark, a Dauntless initiate transfer was stabbed in
the eye on Tuesday April 25 2030. The attacker, who was
unknown, struck in the middle of the night.
A witness, an unnamed Dauntless initiate said "I heard a
wail that curdled my blood and made my hair stand on end.
That is when I threw off my blankets, stood up and realized it
was too dark to find the source of the scream." The only
thing the witness saw was a dark lump on the floor a few
bunks down from her.
Edward was taken to the faction hospital where he was
treated. Upon his release, he gathered his belongs and
walked out of the Dauntless compound with another initiate
leaving them both factionless.
Our Erudite reporters managed to track Edward down and
these were his words: "I don't understand why someone
would do this to me. I knew that Dauntless were brave and
courageous but I had no idea that there was such brutality. I
don't think anyone knew."
The day before, the victim, Edward, was ranked at the top
of his class in the first stage of initiation. Many speculate
that the attack came because of his ranking. Anyone with
information is asked to contact Erudite head office to help
stop future attacks.
