Which of the following are electroytes (either strong or weak? (Choose all that apply.) Na0H CH
CH2OH HNO2 QUESTION 2 1 mole of each of the following substances is dissolved in 1 L of
water. Order them from most ions (1.) to least ions (4.) in solution NaNO
Solution
Electrolytes are the substances which produces ion in the solution.
So NaOH is the strong electrolyte as it produces Na+ ion and Cl- ion in solution.
Fe(NO 3 ) 2 is also strong electrolyte as it produces Fe 2+ and NO 3
- ions in solution
Ethanol is non electrolyte as it does not dissociate into ions in solution.
HNO 2 is a weak electrolyte
Ethanol is non electrolyte so it produces no ions in solution.
ZnCl 2 produces 3 ions in the solution as Zn 2+ and 2 Cl - ions in solution
H 2 SO 3 is a weak electrolye as bonds are stronger between atoms inside it so it is less likely
to dissociate into H+ and HSO 3
- ions.(2 ions are produced)
NaNO 3 is strong electrolyte as it is made up of strong acid and strong base so it readily
dissociates into Na+ and NO 3
- ions(2 ions)
order of compounds based on ions are
ZnCl 2 >NaNO 3 >H 2 SO 3 >CH 3 CH 2 OH
