Mr. Eitner had been known for his out-of-the-box and technology-oriented approach to teaching. He aimed to create
student-centered, data-driven, and technology-infused learning environments throughout his career.
Some of the more recent awards include the 2015 national Educators Voice Award in the category of Superintendent and
the White House MakerSpace distinction. He had also been recognized by the National Academy of Arts & Sciences as
one its Educators to Watch in 2016.
He founded Eitner Education in 2012, in response to the inadequacies he found in the older, one-size-fits-all professional
development programs available to educators. He also hosted a series of workshops on digital leadership, technology
infusion, and student achievement.
Mr. Eitner enjoys traveling and boating in his spare time, taking great pleasure in sailing his boat around the New Jersey
shoreline. He is fond of cooking; some of his favorites include Mediterranean cuisine, seafood, and sushi.
He has a diverse taste in music that includes the vintage tunes of jazz, swing, and the music of the 1940s, along with the
more contemporaneous sounds of Metallica and the Wu-Tang Clan.
He had been an active member of his community over the years. He had served in the committees of local community
organizations like the Township of Union Planning Board, the Township of Union Municipal Drug Alliance (where he served
as chairman), the East Brunswick Educational Foundation, the Long Valley Women’s Club, the Waterford Library Board,
and Waterford Office of Emergency Management Committee. He also volunteered at the soup kitchen for Elijah’s Promise.
