4. •What is medina charter?
Medina Charter : It is an agreement
signed between the different
communities living in Medina after the
migration of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
5. The signatories of the charter
were Jews, idol worshippers
and other communities of
medina .
6. • When the holy property (SAW) migrated to medina, this city
was inhabited by different section of people.
• The other communities living in median were the idol
worshippers and the Jews.
• All the communities signing the charter would from the
common nationality.
• If any signatory of the charter was attacked by an enemy,
other would defend him collectively.
• Whenever there was a sectarian clash at the time, people of
sects resolved by consulting Muhammad
7. This is a document from Muhammad
the Prophet (may Allah bless him and
grant him peace), governing relations
between the Believers i.e. Muslims of
Quraysh and Yathrib and those who
followed them and worked hard with
them. They form one nation -- Ummat.
8. (1)The Quraysh Muhajireen will continue to pay blood
money, according to their present custom.
(2)The Bani Awf will decide the blood money, within
themselves, according to their existing custom.
(2)The Bani Saeeda, the Bani Harith, the Bani Jusham
and the Bani Najjar will be governed on the lines of
the above (principles)
9. ( 4) A Believer will not make the freedmen of another
Believer as his ally against the wishes of the other
Believers.
(5)The Believers, who fear Allah, will oppose the rebellious
elements and those that encourage injustice or sin, or
enmity or corruption among Believers
(6)If anyone is guilty of any such act all the Believers will
oppose him even if he be the son of any one of them
10. (7) A Believer will not kill another Believer, for the sake of
an un-Believer.
(8) Non Believer will help an unbeliever against a Believer.
(9) Believers are all friends to each other to the exclusion
of all others.
11. (10) No Jew will be wronged for being a Jew.
(11)No separate peace will be made by anyone in
Madinah when Believers are fighting in the Path of
Allah.
(12)When going out on expeditions a rider must take his
fellow member of the Army-share his ride.
12. (13)The Jews will contribute towards the war when
fighting alongside the Believers.
(14) Yathrib will be Sanctuary for the people of this
Pact.
(15) A woman will be given protection only with the
consent of her family
13. Quraysh and their allies will not be given
protection.
The parties to this Pact are bound to help
each other in the event of an attack on
Yathrib
14. The important of the charter lies in the
fact that it announces the great
principles of civic equality, freedom of
worship and religious and racial
tolerance.
