helpless, charming, and in need of special
protection.
Exploiting children for the sole benefit of adults,
had been a common practice and was
universally tolerated.
The children spent much of their time playing in
the street. Sometimes watching organ grinders,
acrobats and jugglers.
In Dickens’ times children were not obliged to go
to school, and most didn’t, but if the did,
the character of the education they
received depended very much on whether their
families were wealthy.

homemaker and mother and wife.
The incorporation of women into industry sectors
did not provide any independence as women's

necessity.
