Boys make their own POMLAZKA
and symbolically whip girls on the
bottom to make them younger.
3. BURNING of the WITCHES
On the
evening of
April 30th
people kindle
big fire. They believe
the fire can
defend them
from the
powe of
witches.
4. Saint martin
On 11th November
St Martin comes on
his white horse. The
white colour of the
horse symbolizes
snow.
Typical food for this
day is
St Martin´s goose.
Wine growers
prepare special wine
– St Martin´s wine,
which isn´t allowed
to sell and drink
before this day.
5. christmas
One of the most
common and the most
popular tradition is
baking of Christmas
cookies.
On 24th December people decorate their
Christmas trees by lights, coloured glass
balls and another decorations. The
traditional dish for Christmas Eve´s
dinner is fish soup and fried carp with
potato salad.
After the Christmas dinner the whole family
goes to the Christmas tree, sing the carols
and unwrap the presents, which JEŽÍŠEK
(Santa Claus) give under the tree.
