2. I followed some conventions in all of my
pages, which are all presented in
following slides. However, in some pages
I heavily followed them and in some I
only followed some in minor detail.
3. The masthead is
placed at the top
of the page which
is a typical music
magazine
convention, and
with the font being
bold it is a hip-hop
magazine
convention which
I discovered in my
logo analysis
The main artists
name is in bold
which is a music
magazine
convention and it
being a different
colour all
together is a
convention of
hip-hop
magazines
Music magazines
use mid shots on
their covers,
which is exactly
what I have used.
Hip-hop
magazines make
sure the artist
have a serious
expression, which
I have again
followed
Music magazines
use smaller font to
present other pieces
of content in their
magazines which
this magazine does
too. Hip-hop
magazines in
particular use font
on both sides of the
main artist which I
have again followed
4. With my cover page, I decided to
produce a cover in which follows
conventions of typical hip-hop
magazines. The reason I followed them
and not challenged them is because I
wouldn’t want a hip-hop fan mistake the
magazine for a different genre, so by
following them I am attracting more
attention from the target audience.
5.
6. All music
magazines that I
have looked at
contain an
image of the
main artist on the
contents page,
and I have
followed that
convention
clearly
A typical
convention of
music magazines
is creating sub-
categories for the
content. A hip-
hop convention is
by making the
sub-categories
highlighted by
making the text
bigger and/or
changing the
colour which I
have followed
Having the
heading
‘Contents’ large
and bold at the
head of the
page is a typical
music magazine
convention
which I followed,
a convention of
hip-hop
magazines is to
make the
heading split up
to look modern,
which I refused
to follow and
challenged.
Another
convention of hip-
hop magazines is
to go against your
initial colour-
scheme on your
contents page
which I did and
went for
white/black/yellow
as opposed to red
7. With my contents page, I decided to
challenge the typical conventions of a
hip-hop magazine contents page for the
simple reason that, in my opinion, they all
look very generic and simple, not
exciting and eye-catching- therefore
going against the ethos and philosophy
of my magazine, so I needed to produce
a magazine that is visually appealing.
8.
9. A
convention
of music
magazines
is to split the
pages to
have an
image of
the main
artist on one
side of the
page and
the article
on the other
which I
followed.
A convention of music magazines that I have followed is to
pick out a quote from the interview and enlarge it to catch
the attention of the reader.
Another convention I have followed is to make the main artist’s
name enlarged and have a heading which outlines the main
point of the article
10. With my double page spread, I followed
some conventions and challenged some
too. This is because I needed to follow
some to ensure that it looks very
professional but also needs to stand-out
from the current double page spreads
that are on the market and not look too
generic.
