2. Living in the present digital age, social media has become a
ubiquitous part of everyday life. It has been said that one of
the chief benefits of social media is communication. It
connects people easily with just a click or two. Technology
upgrades more and more every single passing day, and social
media does as much, too. Nowadays, social media can do a lot
more than plain communication. It has become a great source
of entertainment, a center of socialization, a platform for
expression, and more. Sure enough, social media can do
almost anything. However,
3. On Communication and Connection
A few years ago, before social media became widespread all over the
world, trying to communicate with people from afar or to stay connected
with friends from high school was almost impossible. Today,
communication and connection are a piece of cake. With an internet
connection, anyone is able to find the significant people of their lives or
whoever people they want to find, and get in touch with them at any
time of the day unlimitedly. However, this boundless communication and
connection triggers a false sense of connection and belongingness.
Because people can easily talk to just about anyone on the internet via
social media, people tend to have vague, shallow relationships with
others, taking for granted the more meaningful connections. People will
also tend to confuse YouTube views, Facebook likes, and Twitter
followers for a sense of belongingness.
4. On Entertainment
Most people almost merely use social media for entertainment. As said,
social media can now do far more than communication and connection.
Social media is no longer just a web-based platform to chat, call,
or video-call family and friends. Social media lets you meet new people
and come across different experiences through the web. It entertains you
with trending videos, pictures, blogs, games, and more.
5. On Business
Social media gives a great deal of benefits in marketing, positively
affecting a country’s economy. With a few YouTube views, Facebook likes,
and twitter followers, any business can boom. It gives to entrepreneurs a
new means of managing business online and off. It effectively introduces
and promotes business to buyers. Information about the products or
services offered by companies is shared to internet users all around the
globe. Through social media, relationships between entrepreneurs and
customers can be deeper and more meaningful.
6. On Freedom of Expression
Social media has always been and will always be viewed as a platform for
expression, where all thoughts, opinions, and ideas are shared. Expression
helps individuals, teenagers in particular, to utter emotions rather pent
them all up by themselves. However, this freedom of expression given by
social media appears to be overused or at least, misused by users.
Millions of negative, less-meaningful posts are shared throughout the
internet each day. Posts of this kind don’t seem to be helpful at all. They
only oftentimes generate conflict and opposition.
7. On the future
Social media is invented with the help of technology, and technology, as
many people know, has become a springboard to the invention of almost
all other digital age inventions that made life much easier and more
meaningful. Sure enough, social media alone does not mold all of the
things the future holds. Those YouTube views, Facebook likes, and Twitter
followers can never define the future. But it will serve as one of the major
catalysts of this age’s future. Nobody does not exactly know a thing about
the future, but one thing is for sure. There will be a great deal of changes.
Are they positive or negative? We never know.
