video documentary

led the development of Indian documentary.

Sound effects
During 1920 and 1940 more than 1500 short films were
produced
In 1947, Paul Zils established documentary Unit in India.

7. THE INDIAN NEWSREEL
The short film in India has long history
Even before first feature film was produced in 1912
D.G. Phalke made many short films both in the Silent and
Talkies Era
The common themes were ‘Political Meetings’, ‘Funerals’,
‘National Movement’, ‘Strikes’, ‘Visits of Foreign Dignitaries’.
Bombay Talkies, Maharashtra Film Company & Kohinoor and
Many other companies made short films
Durbar of Delhi (1903 to 1911) were filmed
8. THE INDIAN NEWSREEL
During WW-II, Govt. set up the ‘Film Advisory Board’
Later, it became Information Films of India (IFI)
Newsreels were distributed under the banner of ‘The Indian News
Parade’.
In 1946, it was ceased to close but in 1948, Indian News Review was
started.
It emphasized necessity of educating the masses
The emphasize also given on Family Planning, Green Revolution &
Savings etc.
Directorate of field publicity runs over 150 units screens newsreels
9. FILM DIVISION
Film division was set up in Bombay at the end of 1948.
