1881-1938
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born in 1881,
in Salonica (Selanik). His father was Ali Rıza Efendi
and his mother was Zübeyde Hanım. He had a sister
called Makbule. He was well-educated year by year.
He improved himself by reading a lot.
He was not only soldier but also scientist. He
dedicated himself to his people. He made the Turkey
a better place, but it wasn’t so easy as it was
thought. He was ready to sacrifice himself for his
country’s future. He managed the Independence War
of Turkey. Although he was a leader, he fought in
front lines of the war. Finally, the whole world knew
him but unfortunately in 1938 he died from cirrhosis.
Çanakkale is the most historical place in Turkey because in the First World War,
the only place which enemies couldn’t get was Çanakkale. Rumor has it
whenever rains in Çanakkale, there is still smell of soldiers’ blood.
■ In Turkey, you can’t get in the house with your shoes.
■ Every name has a meaning.
■ When a child borns, the elder person in the family whispers baby’s name to
her/his ear.
■ In the wedding day, before bride and groom come into the new house, they
break a plate to make the evil eyes gone.
■ After you drink Turkish coffee, you can look to your fortune from the cup.
