cut off his ear. He only cut
off a small portion of his
ear lobe. Van Gogh
created his most famous
work The Starry Night

Vincent’s brother
Theo was an art
dealer who supported
him throughout his
life. He sold only one
painting during his
lifetime.
“Van Gogh’s sisters had
to sell his paintings for
their livelihood. As he
became more and more
famous and the prices
for his paintings went
up, he was, in a way,
providing for his sisters,
even long after he had
passed on.”

Wheatfield with
Crows - Vincent
Van Gogh
Art historians see this
as a representation of
the artist's
preoccupied state of
mind: a dark, ominous
sky, three paths going
in different directions,
and black crows, a sign
of an impending end.
This is one of the
artist's last works.

Vincent commits suicide
27 July 1890
On that Sunday evening
Vincent van Gogh set
out, with his easel and
painting materials, into
the fields.
There he took out e
revolver and shot
himself in the chest.
He died two days later.
He suffered from
depression, and it is
suspected that it was a
cry for help/attention
rather than a genuine
suicide attempt.
He was only 37
years old.

not quench, but
must keep

“Your profession is
not what brings
home your weekly
paycheck, your
profession is what
you're put here on
earth to do, with
such passion and
such intensity that it
becomes spiritual in
calling.”
Vincent van Gogh
