Remove Spyware - Step-By-Step Guide
1. A Step-By-Step Guide
To Removing Spyware
From Your Computer
Before we get started with the step-by-step guide on how to remove spyware, lets first take a look at what ex-
actly spyware is and why it is so bad to have on your computer.
Spyware is basically a computer program which is installed to a computer. Usually this happens without the
user of the computer knowing it has been installed. What spyware does is not just ‘spy’ on a persons computer,
it can also install other programs to the computer (again, without the user knowing) and can even take over the
control of the computer. It can also gather web surfing habits, your name, credit card info and all kinds of other
personal and/or confidential information. Needless to say, having spyware on your computer is a VERY BAD
thing to have.
So how can you tell if you have spyware? We will go in depth on this topic more so below but in general if your
computer is running slow and/or is just acting funny in general (popup advertisements, error messages, etc),
there is a good chance those things are being caused by spyware.
Ok, so we know what spyware is and what it can do, how do we get rid of it? Fortunately its easy if you follow
the steps below...
Step 1: Download XoftSpySE
First thing to do is get yourself and good spyware removal program. I suggest using XoftSpySE. From here on
out this guide will show you how to use this program to remove spyware from your computer.
2. Step 2: Install the program
Once you have XoftSpySE downloaded, simply install it by following the on-screen instructions.
Step 3: Run XoftSpySE
Next, run XoftSpySE. When you first open the program, you will see a screen similar to the one below. This
screen will warn you that your ‘home’ or ‘search’ pages may have been hijacked. Basically what this means is
that the settings you chose for your home page (the page that loads first when you start your internet browser)
and your search page (such as google) could have been altered by spyware. Double check that the settings are
correct and click the ‘save’ button.
Step 4: Scan your computer & remove the spyware
The next step is for you to scan your computer for spyware. You can do this by clicking the ‘scan now’ button
on the top left. XoftSpySE will then scan your computer. This process may take several minutes depending on
the speed of your computer and the number of files on your computer. While the program is scanning, you can
keep an eye on the number of spyware found by looking at the ‘total definitions found’. The higher the number,
the more infected your computer is and the more at risk you are. Another thing to keep and eye on is the ‘threat
level’ for the items found. This ranges from low risk to high risk. Not surprisingly, the higher the threat level,
the higher the risk to your computer and the safety of the information on your computer.
After a few minutes, XoftSpySE will complete the scan. What you will see will be similar to the image below.
The results will probably be kind of shocking to some of you. Of course the main point of my guide is to get rid
of the spyware on your computer and thats exactly what we are going to do.
3. To get rid of the spyware on your computer simply click the ‘remove’ button and the software will complete the
task by itself. Please note, if you do not have a registered version of XoftSpySE you will not be able to remove
the spyware. I highly recommend you get yourself a registered copy ASAP if you found any spyware on your
computer.
