Humbpack whales are found in the Gulf of Mexico. These whales are know for their beautiful songs, which travel for great distances. These mixes of howls, cries and other sounds often continue for hours on end. Scientists are studying these sounds to figure out their meaning. They think it is a way they communicate with others and to attrack potential mates. Humpback whales can be as big as 48 to 62.5 feet! They are powerful swimmers, because they use their massive fluke to propel themselves through the water.
Physeter macrocephalus our it’s more common name Sperm whale live around Australia. Sperm whales are easily recognized by their massive heads and prominent rounded foreheads. They have the bigest brain of any creature know to have lived on the Earth. These whales are know to dive as deep as 3,280 feet in search of squid to eat. They can hold their breath for up to 90 minutes. They can be as big as 49 to 59 feet! They are great swimmers because of their tale fluke, which is approximately 16 feet from tip to tip. They can cruise the oceans at around 23 miles because of how powerful their tale fluke is.
Works Cited BIBLIOGRAPHY National Geographic. 2010. 16 December 2010 <http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/humpback-whale/>.National Geographic. 2010. 16 December 2010 <http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/sperm-whale/>.
