Radio has greatly shaped American culture by bringing news, entertainment, and music to widespread audiences before television. It was also the first media to advertise products nationally, even targeting children. Radio introduced Americans to music that they still dance and sing to daily. While the document discusses how different types of music may influence plants and human behavior, it argues that the effect depends more on the individual than the genre alone. The overall message is that any music bringing joy and movement is positive.

1. Music, Radio and The American
Culture

2. The use of music and radio has shaped the values of
American culture greatly. Radio has had an impact on our
culture first by it bringing a way for news, entertainment
and music to reach the population without being in print
and before the television.
Radio is also the first way the media was able to reach out
and sell products for corporate america to us the
consumers. By this point even children were beginning to
be targeted during the radio storytellings by toy
companies.
Radio has given us the privilege of enjoying music which
we dance and sing to everyday.

Culture
3. I myself, play music for fun. I play bass guitar, acoustic guitar
and violin. Currently I am playing fiddle for a rockabilly band
doing shows all over the state.
Being a musician, my musical tastes are quiet particular. I mainly
listen to the bluegrass scene at the moment. Currently a band
called The Devil Makes Three is what is in my cd player now and
who I just seen live recently.
I really don’t feel that American culture has been shaped or
influenced by anything I really listen to. I do not listen to the
music that is on the radio myself. But I guess bluegrass is feel
good music that people can dance too if they like it. So that in
itself makes for a positive influence and attitude with people.

5. There have been studies done with growing plants
with music in the background. Some grew with death
metal music and the others with classical. The plants
with the metal music did not grow so well compared
to the ones grown with classical.

Music and Plants
6. I feel that it is the same way with humans. The type of
music does reflect the mindset and social behavior of
people in some ways.
However, I don’t think that listening to death metal will
make you want to hurt people or yourself. It is what you
make out of it.
Music is what feeds the soul. Weather it is blues, punk,
indy, oldies, or country if it makes you feel good inside and
makes your body move and your heart sing then keep
jammin’ on!
