This document summarizes key topics covered in a social psychology lesson and test, including conformity, group behavior, and experiments related to both. It discusses how people tend to conform to group opinions even when they know the answer is wrong. It also describes the bystander effect where people provide less help when in a group compared to alone. Finally, it outlines the chapters covered on the social psychology test, including independent vs interdependent people, vision, attitudes, and conditioning.

In this lesson, we get to study about the conformity and group behavior. It’s about the behavior in
accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards and group behavior in sociology refers to the
situations where people interact in large or small groups which the field of group dynamics deals with
small groups that may reach consensus and act in a coordinated way. There are some experiments were
done to show that how people reaction towards a group as well as a situation.
Conformity involves yielding to social pressure. From the slide, we can see there is an experiment
where subjects were asked to answer a question, the question is about the three different long lines on a
card which matched an original one. 7 students were asked at a time, and 6 students gave the wrong
answers, but only 1 student got the right answer. The only student wanted to see how often people
conformed, and gave a wrong answer as well, because everyone else did. From this, we know that people
tend to follow others opinion although they know the answer is wrong.
A group consists of two or more individuals who interact and are interdependent. People
provide less needed help when they are in groups than they are alone. It’s is the example of the bystander
effect. From the video, there is an example about strangers’ reaction when seeing a scene of kidnapping
on the street. I’m quite shocked to see people just ignore it when they saw this situation happening. After
testing for a few times, finally there are two people trying to help out the girl from being kidnapped. We
know that everyone has different reaction when facing the same problem. Let take the example from the
video, the strangers think that the others will help out the girl.
2. In week 10, we had a test for social psychology. It’s basically about 50 MCQ questions. The exam
is hard because we need to read all of the chapters which Ms. Pang has been taught. 3 Chapters were
involved in this test and many parts of them were come out in the test paper. We need to read thought the
slide in order to score in the test.
The first chapter of social psychology is about the independent and interdependent type of people.
Besides, there are also about the positive thinking in this chapter. Moreover, I also study about how selfserving bias works.
For the second chapter, it is basically about the vision. I read thought this chapter, it’s about the
structure of the eye, disorders among the vision, the effect of color, reversible figure, intentional blindness,
assembling forms and so on. The easier part of the chapter is the effect of color because this is very
interesting for me. Not only this, there are many other part from this chapter were come out during the
test.
In addition, I also study the components and theories about the attitudes. Lastly, the last part I study
for this test is the operant conditioning and observational behavior. As a conclusion, this test is not so
hard at all if you got to read all the slides which Ms. Pang was given.
