I have learnt about the components and theory of attitude in this lecture. Attitude is
defined as the positive or negative evaluative reaction toward someone or something. There
are three components of attitudes such as cognitive, affective and behavioral. Cognitive
component is about our thoughts, belief and ideas toward something. Affective component is
more to the emotions and feelings towards the object or people. Lastly, behavioral component
is the tendency or disposition to act towards your ideas or thoughts.
Attitude is changeable with the presence of four main factors. The four main factors
are source, message, channel and finally receiver. These four factor form a link that makes
the attitude changeable.
Furthermore, I have learnt about the process of learning. The stimulus or response
will either cause a positive or negative consequence. Then, this consequence will lead to the
effect on behavior. For instance, if studying hard will make a student to score well during the
exam, then they will study harder in order to get a better grade. Learner can also learn by
observing the others who are called model. And, that includes the processes of attention,
retention, reproduction and motivation.
In the slides “Say the color of word”, I have learned how hard to specify the exact
condition such as the word in yellow color written as “red”. When the word in yellow color,
literally, some of the students will say that is yellow although the word is red; but some will
say it is red because the word written as red. This is a kind of confusion made by the students
and the students need to put a lot of efforts to think which the correct answer is.

The lecture of “Conformity and Group Behavior” has made something in my mind.
Two videos that happened in the real life were played during the lecture. The first video is the
Obedience Experiment by Stanley Milgram in 1960s. The “teacher” will need to follow the
instructions given by the examiner even though they feel guilty during the experiment. They
do not have a choice because the experiment requires them to do so in order to test about
their humanity. In addition, I have learnt that most of the people will just follow the
instructions blindly without thinking the effects. This may cause something serious such as
death, and it will definitely make us regret for the rest of our life.
Besides, I have learnt the behavior of people in a group. People will usually have The
Bystander effect when they are in a group. This effect causes the people unlikely to help the
others when they are in groups compared to when they are alone. They always have the
thinkingof someone else will show up a hand to help but actually there is none. This is due to
nobody in the group bears the ultimate responsibility and thus they tend to be selfish and not
helpful. For example, the second video in this lecture is about a “kidnapping” experiment that
was done in the public. The result showed that most of the pedestrians did not give any
respond in this situation by giving the excuses like “I think somebody will help.”This is
really scary if it happens in reality.
However, there are also some benefits of groups. Group is always better than
individual while dealing with a complex problem. This is because people in a group will
usually share their ideas with the other group members. They will also discuss together in
order to form a better quality of decision. But, there will be no one to correct your decision
when you are making the decision individually.
