Presentation on advocacy and community engagement for May 15, 2019 Affordable Housing Week event "Affordable Housing 101: Why is it so dang hard?"
The event was held in partnership with a coalition of Eastside providers and advocates, including King County Housing Authority, Attain Housing, Lifewire, The Sophia Way, and Tech 4 Housing, in a "head and heart" discussion to learn more about affordable housing in Eastside King County.

preservation
● Hear stories from people who have experienced needing
affordable housing
● Understand how advocacy makes an impact and what you
can do for affordable housing in your community

advocate for?
King County needs 156,000
affordable homes right now!
How can you make that happen?
9. Action #1: Increase public investments in
affordable housing
We can urge governments to
use more funds for affordable
housing, which often can get
matched by other money, like
the federal Low-Income
Housing Tax credit.
Governments collect taxes and
spend money for the public good.
10. Action #2: Including affordable housing in
new development
We can also build affordable
housing by requiring
developers to build some
affordable units in other
housing projects they build.
11. Action #3: Support specific affordable
housing projects
Increase public support to
build affordable housing helps
us get more affordable
housing in more places.
