This document discusses the spiritual journeys of Abraham in the West and Prince Siddhartha in the East. It notes that Abraham's journey with his family around 1950 BC from Ur to the Promised Land helped form the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It also discusses how Prince Siddhartha around 500 BC left his family to seek spiritual knowledge and founded Buddhism after attaining enlightenment. The document contrasts these journeys, noting Abraham's was with his family while Siddhartha's was individually into the forest in the tradition of India's ancient sages.
3. No people of humanity have been driven by the search for
the Promised Land, as have the Hebrews, a people of ancient faith
and culture among all humanity. According to historians,
this search began around 1950 BC inthe Biblical Patriarchal age
when Patriarch Abraham with his extended family first started
his westward journey from the Babylonian City of Ur located
near the crossing of Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

A Biblical Memory__Patriarch Abraham
In the Biblical chronology, the early wonderings of Abraham’s
family (estimated at 1950 BC) is preserved through the lives
of Abraham’s descendent, Joseph, for the next four hundred years
with the coming of Moses as the “deliverer” of the Hebrew nation
from bondage and exit from Egypt.

From this heritage, children of Abraham, all three major
spiritual traditions,Hebrew, Christian and Islam existing
in west today have emerged from this tribal family of Abraham.

6. From this perspective, Abraham’s journey is an epic spiritual journey
during his life time and the life time of his descendents to present day.
This spiritual journey can be a source of binding force of spirituality
and heritage as a valuable for inter-faith cooperation
in future In search of peace.

9. In the East, in that time frame of Patriarch Abraham, Hinduism
existed in historic India. When Abraham and his tribal family
set out on their spiritual journey west from City of Ur, in search
of the promised land, tribes of so called Indo-Europeans known
as the Arya people had already entered North India for centuries
earlier through the mountains pass in the Western border of
historic India. These Arya people created kingdoms dominating
over the native tribes they found living in India.

Unlike the journey of Abraham in search of the promised land
for his tribal family, in the tradition of the ancient sages
of historic India, Prince Siddartha left his family
and his inherited princely life of wealth and power. In fact,
such forest ashrams of respected sages were
part of that ancient cultural tradition centuries
before and since to now.

13. So that is the spiritual journey of the east. It was most often an
individual one. Today sometimes it is as a small group, to the
forest or along the Himalayas where spiritual journeys are made
to holi places along rivers, mountains and sometime to sea.
