Junior School Principal
Senior School Principal
Senior School Vice Principal
Introduction
Southpointe Academy announces attractive career opportunities for candidates with the right
experience and qualifications who are interested in pursuing management positions at the Junior
or Senior School levels. Southpointe Academy has evolved into an outstanding independent school
with a beautiful new campus to match its top-quality program. It is an exciting time to be a faculty
member at Southpointe Academy.
School History
Southpointe Academy was founded in 2000 in Tsawwassen, British Columbia, and re-founded by
the parents, following private ownership failure, in 2004. The school opened with 95 students in
Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 and now enrolls 530 students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. Over the
past 12 years, the school has grown in size, performance and stature: its graduates grace the halls
of many of the top universities in Canada, the United States, and beyond.
Organizational Structure
The school currently has three programs including the Foundation Years Program (K-5), the Middle
Years Program (Grades 6-8) and the Graduation Years Program (Grades 9-12), with a Team Leader
responsible for each section. In the 2013-2014 school year the school will create two new divisions
within the school, a Junior School (K-5) and a Senior School (Grades 6-12), each led by a Principal,
replacing the Team Leaders. Due to the size and complexity of the Senior School, a Vice Principal,
who will be responsible for Grades 6-8, will assist the Senior School Principal. The Principals and
Vice Principal will be the educational and administrative leaders for each new section of the school,
having authority over all employment and operational matters, including teacher evaluation and
faculty appointments and assignments. This is in part due to the large increase in population in the
past school year when the school grew from 400 to 530 students. Both Principals and the Vice
Principal will work closely with each other, students, parents, faculty and staff, and the Head of
School in managing their sections of the school.
Educational Program
The school offers a rigourous and balanced university-preparatory program, which is enriched with
an Honours Program Advanced Placement courses. The regular program consists of challenging
core courses and a broad range of electives. There is a learning support program provided through
the school’s Innovative Learning Centre for students with mild special learning needs. The
emphasis on the integration of technology in the instructional program is growing rapidly. The
2. school is authorized by the BC Ministry of Education through the Independent Schools Office and
is a member of the following organizations: Federation of Independent Schools Associations,
Independent Schools Association of BC, NAIS and PNAIS.
Student Body
Half of the student body comes from South Delta, BC, primarily from Ladner and Tsawwassen,
while the other half comes from the Vancouver suburbs of Richmond, Delta and South Surrey, and
Point Roberts, Washington. Expected enrolment in the 2013-2014 school year is 530 students: K-5
(205), Grades 6-8 (125) and Grades 9-12 (200). Students come from 7 different countries and as
they graduate, gain acceptance to universities around the world. Students hold high academic
expectations for themselves and a strong work ethic exists within the student body. Southpointe
parents are highly supportive of their children and the school.
Faculty
An inspirational faculty provides an outstanding instructional environment that motivates
students to be academically successful, globally minded, and well balanced. The faculty currently
consists of nearly 70 teachers and teaching assistants. Many teachers hold graduate degrees and
several have taught internationally.
Facilities
The school relocated to its new building in Tsawwassen in January 2012. This state-of-the-art
campus is modern, technologically advanced and purposefully designed for contemporary
teaching and learning needs. Its bright, eco-friendly classrooms, offer an inviting learning
environment. The school has a 200-seat theatre, double gymnasium, fitness centre, contemporary
science labs, library, art and music rooms and a media arts classroom. With its new campus, the
school has significantly enhanced its learning environment and educational program and increased
its capacity to around 550 students.
