Animals do have rights
Every living thing has its own value and serves several functions in our planet. It is
amazing that in this time and era, society is still not sensitized by animals and may perhaps be a cultural or economic issue. Killing and abuse animals for different purposes is a terrible thing made by human been, that has invaded our world quickly. As we can see dirty, hungry and homeless animals everywhere are killed daily without compassion, mostly in farms. They are again used for experiments in scientific research labs for the only fact to please carless people. These animals are treated with cruelty before their death. While some claim that animals do not have rights, we need to treat them with love because they deserve our respect, they can go extinct without our help, they can’t speak up for themselves, and we have to respect the ecosystem. There exists much disagreement as to whether non-human animals deserve any forms of rights and what such rights entail. There is however much less disagreement in regards to the consequential effect of accepting animal rights. Animal rights seek to enlighten man on the cruelty of certain acts a matter of principle, and there are some acts that are simply morally wrong when done to animals. This therefore it means that there are some things that human beings should not do to animals at whatever cost and in whatever way. For example in the Journal “The Case For Animals” Rightsit is stated, “no animal should be bred and later killed for food; animals should not be subjected to such treatment. Such principality in this sense that animals should not be killed and that ought to be taken as final. No manner of humane and lavish treatment will be able to justify the killing of animals being. The core basis of these animal rights is therefore that animals should be given an equal opportunity to lead their lives without man’s intrusion of slaughtering them” (Regan 3). Animals do have rights
Every living thing has its own value and serves several
functions in our planet. It is
amazing that in this time and era, society is still not sensitized
by animals and may perhaps be a cultural or economic issue.
Killing and abuse animals for different purposes is a terrible
thing made by human been, that has invaded our world quickly.
As we can see dirty, hungry and homeless animals everywhere
are killed daily without compassion, mostly in farms. They are
again used for experiments in scientific research labs for the
only fact to please carless people. These animals are treated
with cruelty before their death. While some claim that animals
do not have rights, we need to treat them with love because they
deserve our respect, they can go extinct without our help, they
can’t speak up for themselves, and we have to respect the
ecosystem. There exists much disagreement as to whether
non-human animals deserve any forms of rights and what such
rights entail. There is however much less disagreement in
regards to the consequential effect of accepting animal rights.
Animal rights seek to enlighten man on the cruelty of certain
acts a matter of principle, and there are some acts that are
simply morally wrong when done to animals. This therefore it
means that there are some things that human beings should not
do to animals at whatever cost and in whatever way. For
example in the Journal “The Case For Animals” Rightsit is
stated, “no animal should be bred and later killed for food;
2. animals should not be subjected to such treatment. Such
principality in this sense that animals should not be killed and
that ought to be taken as final. No manner of humane and
lavish treatment will be able to justify the killing of animals
being. The core basis of these animal rights is therefore that
animals should be given an equal opportunity to lead their lives
without man’s intrusion of slaughtering them” (Regan 3). As we
can see, no one has the right to kill an animal nor is to slaughter
them just for the simple fact to satisfy human needs. However,
There are a lot of alternatives for people who enjoy eating meat.
According to Soyfoods Association of North America” states,
“Health-wise meat lovers choose soyfoods because a vide
variety of soy-based alternatives look, smell, and taste just like
meat, chicken, and fish. Soyfoods have many nutritional
benefits and can contribute to a heart healthy diet. At the very
least, soyfoods can replace less healthy foods that are high in
saturated fat and cholesterol and contribute to a heart healthy
diet.”(Smith 3). As we can see this is a better
animals deserve to live free without the fear to be killed or
slaughtered by humans who do not have conscious about animal
rights.
One of the worst things I consider cruel, is the slaughter
of animals and the use of their skin to make fancy clothes. It is
through cruelty that these animals are killed, where they are
drugged and their skin taken off them while still alive. Such
horrific acts must be stopped. According to PETA-an
organization that supports animal rights, millions of animals are
killed annually for use in the clothing industry all this being
done because of fashion. It is regardless whether these clothes
originate from Australia, Chinese fur farms or Indian
slaughterhouse because the amount of suffering that goes into
each fur-trimmed jacket; leather belt of wool sweater is
immeasurable (Simmons 1). As we can see, animals are being
killed every year just because there are people who considered
fashion to be wearing of jackets or clothes made of animal
3. skins. Such people should think and consider the pain and
suffering they cause the animals every time they buy these
clothes. I personally don’t buy these things because in my point
of view, we don’t have the right to massacre animals especially
only to satisfy fashion needs.
We witness abuse of animals today in places like farms,
Zoos and Circuses. It is indeed sickening to see animals treated
in such mannerism, where they are kept in big cages without
freedom. Farms are places where animals are killed every day
for people’s consumption; the worst thing being that they are
treated miserably and locked in cages before their death. PETA
indicates that, most egg-laying hens are usually subjected to
cruel living conditions, where they are put in cages termed as
batteries. Such cages are usually too small that even one hen
could not have the capacity to fully stretch its wings (Regan 2).
It is unbelievable how animals are treated in farms hence my
stand against this cruelty and urging of people consider doing
something in order to end this abuse. Furthermore, sometimes
animals are hit till they die or sometimes little chicks are tossed
alive into big grinding machines simply because they are male
species and cannot lay eggs. In the same way, animals in Zoos
and circuses are treated with cruelty and exploited by their
owners. These innocent animals are deprived off their freedom
with their only purpose being to entertain people. I recently
watched a video where I clearly saw all this cruelty and abuse
towards innocent animals. I still cannot understand why there is
too much hate towards animals that are living things and
deserve to leave freely without being slaughtered.
In addition, animals are not only used to make cloths, but
also used for experimentation in research laboratories. These
animals are tortured and beaten if they resist the procedure of
the experiments. According to PETA, there are always a number
of rabbits, cats, dogs, mice and other animals locked up in
science laboratories across the country. Such animals endure
much suffering as they are usually lonely and lack the freedom
to use their mind or even roam. They are in a constant state of
4. fear, oblivious of the following procedure that may be terrifying
and painful. They sometimes die because they are injected with
things that their bodies cannot support. Also rabbits are used as
cosmetology experiments to test their products; they use their
sensible eyes to prove the quality of their products. However,
they die or lose their vision because they go through so much
pain (Simons 2). It is amazing what we humans do just to get
the best products, best experiments results or money at any cost.
They are killing and making innocent animals to suffer.
Animals unfortunately can’t talk and defend themselves. They
don’t have the voice to say we don’t want to get killed or be
used as experiments. I’m completely against all these cruelties
and believe that we all should be treating them equally. If
scientists want to do experiment or companies want to test their
products, they should pick volunteers but do not use animals
because they cannot decide for their lives.
Lastly, another thing that I personally dislike is hunting
because it affects many things such as our ecosystem. There are
People who practice it as a sport or consider it as fun. They
don’t think about our ecosystem that every time they kill a deer
or any animal they are affecting the place we live in Earth. In
the journal “Hunting without permission” it is stated, “Hunting
affects the biosphere, which is where the living organisms exist,
it affects the biosphere because wildlife is directly related to the
biosphere and hunting disrupts natural order”. Here clearly we
see that hunting it is affecting our Earth because what would
happen if all this living organisms would go to extinction that
will clean our environment, we will not have clean air anymore.
Also, there are many hunters who hunt just for fun without
caring about their prey living them wound or dead in the woods.
According to a member of the Maine Bow Hunters Alliance,
approximately half of the animals that are usually shot by
crossbows in hunting expeditions do not die, but remain
wounded. A study conducted on 80 radio-collared white-tailed
deer showed 11 of the 22 deer shot by traditional archery were
wounded but not recovered” (Roman 3). This is a cruel act that
5. should stop and not considered a sport because these people are
killing innocent animals, and at the same time putting them on
the risk of extinction. In my opinion, we have to protect our
ecosystem because every animal has a special function in our
world. We need to take care of our habitat. People who hunt
animals just for fun to entertain them selves are careless people
without feelings who practice this “sport” without judgment.
Animal abuse is a serious issue that has become a social
problem that keeps increasing every day. The population is
blinded to this issue and similarly not taking action on it. There
are many abused animals that are sick and helpless but neither
the government nor people do anything because they are
oblivious of their responsibility. It is then that animals suffer
because of humans’ need where they are used as raw material
for food, entertainment and sport, the manufacture of clothing
or simply to be used as a means of study for science
experiments. Most alarming is that instead of going steady; the
number of animals suffering this abuse is increasing rapidly.
Animals have no voice, cannot make demands or judicial
accusations of mistreatment and abuse. This is one of the
cruelest acts performed by men. Abusers of animals are in the
advantage due to the helpless and voiceless state of the animals,
which cannot defend themselves against such acts of atrocity.
Of course things would have been significantly different if the
animals had the ability to converse and effectively express
themselves to humans in more elaborate ways. It is time to start
doing something about this cruelty, as we should start to think
about every animal that is suffering. We all need to have
compassion for animals; we need to take care of them because if
we don’t one day they are going to be extinct. Maybe we
humans are inhibiting their planet and destroying them at the
same time, but we also have the power to stop this cruelty and
take action about it.

Learning Team Reflection: Supply Chain and Demand Model
11/24/2014
7. Learning Team Reflection: Supply Chain and Demand Model
Define Supply Chain
The Supply Chain is the network that is created between many
different companies to get goods and services to the consumer.
It starts with raw materials that are then taken by the supplier
and sold to the manufacturing company. The manufacturing
company sells the goods or services to the distributor who then
sells it to their customer usually a retailer. The retailer then
finally sells the goods or services to the consumer aka the
public. It includes every company that is involved in producing
a final product from the parts, assembling it, delivering it, and
selling it. Supply chain management is vital to every company
with the main goal of trying to keep costs low and still be able
to make a profit (Investopedia.com).
Define Supply and Demand Model
The supply and demand model analyzes a competitive market
for a single good or service. The supply usually depicts the
manufacturers’ output rising as the price increases. Because of
the rising marginal costs, market prices increase to motivate the
increased output. (Chegg)
As the price rises, the consumer will look for a cheaper good or
service and the purchasing power of the consumers’ income will
fall. If the quantity needed exceeds the quantity available, the
shortage will allow the manufacturers’ to increase the price of
the good or service. On the other hand, when the available
quantity is more than what is needed, the surplus will require
the manufacturers’ to reduce the price of the good or service.
Equilibrium occurs when the quantity needed and the quantity
manufactured is equal.
Describe Similarities
8. The supply chain and supply and demand model are very
similar. The supply chain is “controlling the materials, entities,
and processes that are involved in producing and delivering
goods and services. Traditional Supply Chain Management is
driven by planning and communication--planning future demand
based on current and past demand, and working continuously to
ensure that all stakeholders, whether it’s an actual
manufacturing company or its suppliers” and the demand is
based on customer’s needs. The customers wants is what drives
the supply chain. The demand is “the customer is at the center
of all work, and dictates how the supply chain operates. A
demand-driven network involves everything that customers
want” the supply chain and the supply and demand model both
work together to provide the customers wants but it also makes
sure that the products are a profit to the company and their
stakeholders. Investopedia (2014) defines supply chain as a,
“network created amongst different companies producing,
handling and/or distributing a specific product. Specifically, the
supply chain encompasses the steps it takes to get a good or
service from the supplier to the customer.”
The supply chain, and the supply and demand model both work
to maintain quantity of services and goods sold buy businesses
but also to keep business stakeholders collecting a profit in
their stocks while meeting customer’s needs.
Describe Differences
The supply chain and the supply and demand model are both
related by their similarities, but each model is very different.
According to Supply Chain Management, the supply chain deals
with all parties involved in receiving and fulfilling a customer
request, including the following (Chopra & Meindl, 2004):
· Manufacturers
· Suppliers
· Transporters
· Warehouses
· Retailers
· Customers
9. On the other hand, the supply and demand model determines the
current prices of items in the market and only deals with the
consumers and suppliers. The model illustrates the relationship
between the consumers and the producers. Producers are the
people who supply the item at the current price while the people
who demand a specific quantity of an item at that price are the
consumers (Beggs, 2014).
Examples
An example of supply and demand would be the scenario when
the Sony PlayStation 4 was first released. When it became
available there was a high demand for it and many buyers
sought after it. Since there was a limited supply certain
individuals bought them and then sold them online for double or
triple the money they paid for them.
An example of how the supply chain is used could be drawn
from this same scenario. “One of the most fundamental
processes in the high-technology supply chain is the exchange
of purchase-order request and response messages,” (Microsoft).
The shopper would put in a purchase order initially. The seller
at that point would acknowledge the purchase order. Once the
order was filled and shipped the seller would send confirmation
to the buyer.
