Our Host, the Virginia Beach Living Museum, is a NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat and Virginia Green certified tourism destination. The museum is a private, non-profit institution with over 400 volunteers that has attracted more than 198,000 people a year, connecting people to nature through educational experiences that promote conservation. 2008 the museum opened a permanent "Living Green" demonstration house that showcases over 30 green building products or practices (e.g., alternative wall systems, insulation choices, solar panels, geothermal heat pump system, living green roof, etc.); this see-through house is visited by over 200,000 people each year.
Fort Eustis Warrior Transition Unit Complex UEP Housing…On the nearly 15-acre site, the new complex will consist of a 16,600-square foot, two-story Company Operations Facility to house the unit command team and WTU cadre offices and a new 7,000-square foot Soldier and Family Assistance Center. The complex included a 48,200-square foot, 80-room barracks facility, the UEP Housing, which was certified LEED Gold in July 2013. The barracks project, which was awarded to Purcell-Lawman in July 2011, is certified LEED platinum status, the highest certification available - the first Army owned and Corps of Engineers-constructed platinum facility. Construction is scheduled for completion in December 2012. The barracks buildings will include a grey-water recycling and reuse system, representing a first for a standard-design facility. Eachof the new facilities will feature hot-water boilers or water heaters, supplemented by solar, hot-water systems. These systems will provide at least 30 percent of the hot-water demand by directly renewable, sun-powered means.Rather than implement traditional heating and cooling systems, the buildings will feature high-efficiency ground-coupled, geothermal-heat-exchanger systems.Jefferson Laboratory Technology and Engineering Development Facility provides state-of-the-art facilities for research in the areas of nuclear physics, accelerator science, advanced instrumentation, and applied nuclear science and technology. The TEDF has made it possible to co-locate engineering efforts supporting SRF, accelerator and physics research to enhance collaboration. It was designed to provide improved process flow and flexibility to respond to future mission changes.
